Personally think it might suffer the same issues the thread did when it was stickied if it got its own subforum

Andy Rose , born in Australia, but more to UK, not sure if he feel Australian or not...He was use as a sub in Seattle Sounders 2-1 game win over LA Galaxy, LA move to the final on away goals
Seattle Sounders must be a good team, won this year MLS Supporters' Shield (team top of both tables) and if we still feel that MLS is better the A-league, then a player like Andy Rose should be look at by A-league teams...Andy Rose would only be on min MLS wage , i think A-league min is higher

Who do we think might be the next young aussie to be transferred to Europe? Im thinking possibly Antonis and Mabil. We know that De Silva is off to AS Roma next season anyway.

yes, shop window is why you play in Dutch and Belgium league, I really like the A-league to become that shop window for young Aussie players, and not have the need to go to a middle man (team)
yes, adapting to a culture far away from home does helps build mental toughness...And it been statistically proven across all sports, that players perform better at home , which equally means they under perform away from home, so Oar would have to play that little bit better
Oar was 17 years old when he left A-league, so there is a natural progression of a player as they age ...A-league has also progress over those 5 year, it a much higher standard today then 5 years ago, that not the same with the dutch league, it well down today then 5 years ago..i look at team Oar in at Utrecht, they don't have any international players (only Oar) they don't have any players who played in EPL, Italy, Spain. france 1st league games, they don't have any Ajax, PSV ex players, there must be some benefits to .Antonis playing with both Emerton and .Del Piero that Oar hasn't got at Utrecht ..I'am not saying your wrong, i just saying when i look, I see reason why this might not be true

In fairness he did say that Oar developed more at Utrecht than he would have at the Roar. The A-League has of course improved dramatically in that time, but the point stands. As far as accessible shop windows go, a club like Utrecht is pretty close to the ideal. We say Eredivise, Jupiler or Buli.2 for a reason, you know!

He actually directly kept Oar out of the team for the first few years.

Edited by adrtho: 2/12/2014 01:47:56 PM Some of the issues in addition to playing football (an EU passport probably helps a lot to get ahead too, no work permit/residency issues), are social. Different culture, sometimes language, no close friends/relatives, lacking life experience etc.. Players need to choose the right country or league in 'Europe' preferably Eridivisie standard, or thereabouts e.g. Bunedesliega 2, Turkey, Belgium etc. where matches are covered extensively in media, and in the shop window. Several have gone up dead ends in Romania, Poland, Mid East etc..... You'd think managers and/or mentors could clue them up a bit on how to get over culture shock etc., e.g. learn language or study to meet normal people, stay with a local/club family etc., and choose clubs that actually give players the whole 'development' package.

What a surprise, listening to BBC 5Live wrap of EPL, Tim Vickery pops up saying how South American players coming into their own in the EPL because of the support nowadays. This is vs. some years ago, he said about one who went to an EPL club, wife seriosuly ill, no support, started playing badly... very different now, welfare officers etc.. The other famous one was a highly paid recruit to top EPL team, spoke no English, and had to sort his own apartment rental etc......

Funny you just talk about this a Quota by West Bron manger today Quote:“I would hope that in future transfer windows there is a much more joined up approach than was possible in this one.”
It is noticeable that Albion’s two most successful acquisitions - Craig Gardner and Joleon Lescott came to the club having experienced life in the Premier League.
Irvine says the fact they are home-based players has made the switch to The Hawthorns more smooth than foreign players often arriving late and midway through pre-season.
“That is fair [to say]. It’s an extra problem for them, the language, the culture and the move away from home.
“Craig Gardner has moved back down into the area, it’s where he's from and it’s the easiest thing ever.
“He did the whole pre-season, he’s used to playing in this country, has no language or cultural problems, so it’s an awful lot different to Silvestre Varela, who has come from another country late, not having done a pre-season.
“There is the language, culture and getting to know there area, which are all extra problems.
