Don't think so? Unless I confused him and Degenek.

Let's be honest, Smith & Herd wouldn't even have been looked at for England. Maybe a big reason as to why they chose us. Not sure about Herd, but Smith 100%

Talking about the senior team too, I know Smith represented them at junior level. There would be many left full backs/wing backs ahead of him.

I recall reading elsewhere that Ugarkovic has declared for Australia. Sorry, I can't remember where I read it.

He certainly played for the Under 20s in the Chinese tournament just 3 months ago..

Will search...

We all know where Chris Herd is at, but I fear for Brad Smith's future and even moreseo Jake Brimmer's future too.

Look at the current Liverpool squad and starting XI. Only Gerrard and Lambert are youth academy products with Sterling having a couple of years after his formative years at QPR youth.

That is a shocking return on investment for one of the biggest clubs in England.

Not sure there's too many big English clubs who've done too much better with their youth in recent times, the step and competition for place's is just way too much these days

I agree Liverpool dont have a great track record when it comes to youth development apart from Sterling.

I fear for Jake Brimmer's career, he could've joined the AIS or Melb. Victory when he had the chance.

Agree, just look how it all turned out for Mooy, McLaren, Gameiro, Jamieson, Grifiths of recent times. Yet kids still go to EPL clubs thinking they have a chance of making it.

Luongo looks like he is going to bounce back, but the other guys are touch and go in my opinion.

the german teams have tackled it by having a second team. the top tier need to think about doing the same thing.

AEK Athens looking at getting Giannou on a free at the end of the season. I am guessing this will only go through if they get promoted as even though they are going to win their section there is a promotion group in the second tier.

Football Central reporting that Ugarkovic will go on loan to the top team in the Croatian 2nd tier for the rest of his last season on contract with Osijek. Definitely speaks like he wants to represent Australia as a first choice.

Thats great news. Needs a bigger club if he is looking to break in to this team. Even if he switches, Croatia have a solid team too.

Well he's already set up a goal for them in a friendly last night, and could well be a first choice player for them next year in the Croatian top flight and challenging for European competitions... Didn't know you could do that in the NPL!

lets hope he does get into Croatian top flight , that would be better then NPL but not as good as A-league...

You need perspective , when talking about a European leagues and Aussie players playing In them... the fact he is now 20 years old and now down in Croatian 2nd, means he very unlikely to make the grade as a football player

There goes adrtho on another "Australia's the greatest" rants. The Aleague must only just be behind La Liga, Bundesliga, and the EPL huh? You seem to keep saying that almost every league in Europe is worse than the HAL. And while some are, a lot aren't or are at least on parity. I do wonder what your heritage is though as you don't sound Aussie which would make your patriotism even more intriguing.

The co-efficients are rubbish and does nothing to show the particular quality of a given league. I think a few more world class players have come out of the Croatian league than the HAL.

Yes it would be preferable for him to play at a higher level but getting game time at senior level is still better than playing reserve or youth team football. He's more likely to get scouted in the 2nd division than in the NPL which even HAL clubs rarely scout.

You are right, but the whole argument is beside the point, this is the thread for reporting on Aussies Abroad, and anyone trying to dispute which level is worth reporting on for the sake of it is taking this thread off topic, and warned.

The Swiss Super Liga is at about the halfway mark for the season and I noticed that Sion and Luzern are both at the bottom of the table (15 points and 13 points respectively). Can anyone comment on Dario Vidosic's and Oliver Bozanic's contributions to their teams for this season? They both started off with a lot of promise a year or two ago.

let me put this way, i had to buy a EU passport, no grandmother or grandfathers from there

A-league better then 80% of European league ..you need to get with the times today, and have reasonable understand about standards of European league today, not 5 , 10 years ago

it' s all about the context that the discussion was leading to, that 20 year old Aussie, playing in Croatian 2nd league and having him choose Australia NT over Croatian NT, if you have a clearer understanding of the Croatian 2nd being around NPL in Australia, you might not be talking about this player in the context of Australia NT, we certainly would not be talking about any 20 year old Aussie player in NPL and he choice of National teams :")

co-efficients is not rubbish , if you don't watch every European football league and team, then you can't possibly know what level each league is at..but their are better mathematical indicated

how many players been scouted out of Croatian 2nd division in the last 5 years? i know Jason Davidson went from NPL to playing games in Primeira Liga ...you talk as if this is a fact

You are right, but the whole argument is beside the point, this is the thread for reporting on Aussies Abroad, and anyone trying to dispute which level is worth reporting on for the sake of it is taking this thread off topic, and warned.

sorry, are saying i'm being warned because i have a different opinion to you ?

bring a context to the standard of league, a Aussie player is playing at , is I think worthy of this thread , otherwise, the discussion will end up talking about some aussie player , playing in some Youth Italian league as the next greatest thing
