Chris last year was as a over age player (19 years old in a 17 and 18 year old competition) he score 80% of he goals as a over player

at the 2014 Asian Champion ship U19, Chris was replace in the starting team after 1st game

personally, i think it's crazy to select any player for Sooccerrroos base on a 17 and 18 year old competition, especially when that youth was effectively replaced in National age team just 6 month before ...if you're going to be selecting youth players in National team, you also expecting them to be the stand out player for that Australia National age team and Chris Ikonomidis wasn't that player

According to the trusty wiki, Ikon has 5 appearances for Young Socceroos and four goals. Mabil also has four goals in 9 appearances and only Skapetis has more goals than Chris with 6 from 6. This is from players in the last 12months

Fortunately those making the decisions use their scouting and eye for talent as opposed to a search on Soccerway for minutes played.

You use one tournament to hold onto and again go purely on what you can find on wiki or Soccerway. So despite according to you not being very good compared to the other U19s, he's called up to the Olyroos where his Young Socceroos coach was an assistant, and then gets called up to the Socceroo where his Olyroos coach is an assistant.

Now surely these coaches would've said "No, Ange pick Charlie he's played X amount of minutes more than Chris, in the Aleague." Or "No, Ange Ikon is not ready yet."
