I genuinely believe theres a lot of talented youth in Oz but I just dont believe the A League is the best development option and I dont know why more talented Aussie kids are not getting an opportunity, a real opportunity that is, at top end clubs in Europe. Whilst we're never going to stop the exodus overseas I do believe the FFA or the A League clubs themselves do not do enough to develop, market or promote the NYL. Perhaps, given the lack of achievements by our national youth teams in general, we need to concede that there is a lack of true 'stand out' talent ? Edited by Straight Bat: 5/1/2016 10:26:51 PM For what its worth I've followed overseas aussies and youth teams for years. On the optimistic side things have gone forward pretty linearly for the past few years. On the downside where we were was dismal and where we are is mediocre although the progress is exciting. Even if we keep improving at the current rate (which is questionable because we might hit walls due to a lack of second division, lack of genuine academies) it could be a decade before we produce youth at the level we need so its tough. Maybe football is just a more competitive sport than us aussies are used to and the production of a golden generation hid this fact slightly? Anyway fingers crossed things continue to improve I think your last para sums it up very well. The other problem is that the youth leagues and academies in Europe have developed to a point whereby they really are at an elite level and only the very best talent is taken. I watched a televised Primavera game in Italy and an Academy game in England last August and the comparison to what I have watched in the NYL was akin to chalk and cheese. Not saying talented Aussies cannot strive for these levels as there are Aussies currently in Academies over there now...just saying its odd these kids really dont go on and make a mark as did the likes of Bozza, Harry and even Craig Johnston and Tony Dorigo (ask your dad kids) before them.. when I have seen ikonimides play in the italian youth leagues the standard wasn't that much lower than a league =d> . Unfortunately I haven't seen a nyl game due to lack of access. Mind you I recently saw a premier league match from 15 years or so ago and it wasn't that much higher in quality than the a league is now. Somehow the quality of the top euro leagues has gone through the roof over the last couple of decades. Can assure you italians put more emphasis on the Primavera level then they do on their national youth teams. The level is extremely high and the entire league is very well run, promoted and importantly, televised.

By now, American Samoa must have realised that Australias 22-0 win over Tonga two days earlier was no fluke.

I fuckin hate derailing this thread but i've had too much wild turkey tonight and straight bat is a straight fucking idiot. You wasted about 5 posts just calling out theselectfew to try and prove your stupid point which he obviously didn't want to engage in (and whom happens to add heaps of value to this thread/site by posting facts and info we would otherwise have to trawl the internet for.) Then after bitching about the quality of osaussies you yammer on about the ffa and a-league clubs not doing enough for development of young kids and don't know why the good ones aren't getting minutes at big 4 clubs. Quote:I honestly dont know mate.
What the fuck is your point? Why did you state A-league clubs aren't doing enough development wise and then say you don't know why more aussies aren't getting an oportunity, "a real oportunity that is, at top end clubs in Europe" Maybe they are related? Thats cool, maybe thats why? Maybe thats not? You have a shitty opinion, go start a shitty thread. I personally think this thead is for: - Updates regarding osaussies (news/matchday/transfers) - Questions about osaussies (news/matchday/transfers) - The odd exchange between posters about osaussies (news/matchday/transfers) and if it takes longer than a few posts is most likely worth a thread of its own or is more relevant in another thread

Bulut not in squad. Smith on the bench which is a bit disappointing. They have an FA cup tie against Exeter on Saturday morning which I would almost guarantee he starts in though.

Smith on bench in cup semi. Hopefully they flog them and there might be some rotation in the return leg.

Coutinho and Lovren subbed off within the first 30min. Smith not brought on.

Quote:I honestly dont know mate.
What the fuck is your point? Why did you state A-league clubs aren't doing enough development wise and then say you don't know why more aussies aren't getting an oportunity, "a real oportunity that is, at top end clubs in Europe" Maybe they are related? Thats cool, maybe thats why? Maybe thats not? You have a shitty opinion, go start a shitty thread. I personally think this thead is for: - Updates regarding osaussies (news/matchday/transfers) - Questions about osaussies (news/matchday/transfers) - The odd exchange between posters about osaussies (news/matchday/transfers) and if it takes longer than a few posts is most likely worth a thread of its own or is more relevant in another thread This is a public football forum genius. if you dont like what you see you simply reach over Ardtho's shoulder and turn your the pc off. The Select Few got called out for making an utterly bull5hit comment which he knows about. and dont forget tuff guy .... just the fact you came in here all whiteknighting with your noble steed crying and wailing makes me very.....very....very... happy

select few does contribute a lot to this thread and has formidable knowledge of os aussies. I agree its not right to call him out
I think watching australia wrestling to improve is a long journey. The fact that its a long way to the top is a feature (of football) not a bug. Personally I'm enjoying where we are at so long as we continue to improve (frustrating injuries aside) and I enjoy the informed optimism in this thread
anyone who saw osaussies (apart from the aging golden generation) over the past decade or so and how dire things has got reason for optimism these days

We are going well and as you said hopefully we keep on going forward
