well there is probably a growing skills mismatch between an aussie player and the ecl. We have done ok at similar quality leagues (holy trinity etc)

Antonis on the bench again. Amini plays later on.
By now, American Samoa must have realised that Australias 22-0 win over Tonga two days earlier was no fluke.

jlm8695 wrote:Quote:luongo has lost a bit of his flair I'd put this down to going up a division, he was never going to find it as easy as League One. Still seems the same player for the Roos so far. Quote:edi was a nightmare when he played there giving away a key pen and a red card in wc qualifiers due to his thuggish style. He hasn't done that while playing in turkey or epl Didn't see Jedi in Turkey or the Championship, but he still reguarly gives away cheapish fouls for the Socceroos, more than it seems he gives away for Palace. I'd put this down to Asian opponents/referees. Quote:davidson's ability to link with players around him has actually gone backwards I do think Davidson has regressed. Form/confidence idk, but hasn't played well for the Roos since the Asian Cup. Quote:nick carle lost all his flair and came back to australia a shadow of the player on the ball but slightly more busy in defense (if not a little thuggish). Granted he spent time on the bench due to danns taking his spot but he also had an extended run. I know its a stereotype but I picture an english gaffer looking at his flair and saying "cut that fancy crap out"
I don't think Carle lost his flair at all, he still showed glimpses of it. He came back into a dysfunctional team with ADP at #10 and had to play deeper as a result. Injuries led to inconsistency and never got back to the level he was at at the jets. Quote:rhys williams has been injured nonstop. Might have been injured in any league but it does fit the stereotype of the league being rough and having too many fixtures and a terrible place for a technical player like rhys
No idea, seems like body issues rather than the league he plays in. Quote:taggart couldn't get off the bench - may have happened in any league but I would put money on him playing for an equally good eredivisie or belgium league at least a little
Taggart was mainly used from the bench at a poor Dundee side in the SPL, he was never good enough to play regularly in the Championship. Don't think thats the leagues fault, rather one of his own limited quality. Quote:wright so far has looked about the same for the national team as when he played in league 1
Wright has looked good and the step up in level means he's always facing better competition than he was before. Quote:oar struggled to get off the bench despite doing very well in the eredivisie an equal or higher league
Wouldn't say Oar regressed, he just simply made a shit choice to leave the Dutch league in a team that suited his style for one that quite clearly didn't- and now he's paying for it back home because of it. Most of these I wouldn't say went backwards because of the league, rather playing for teams within that league that didnt suit them, or they took a step up to a level they weren't necessarily ready for. Certain players will excel in certain leagues and some wont. With our cultural ties to England and the similarity to Aus, it's always going to be a favorable move for a lot of players. I've seen enough quality Australians in the championship to think that iot can be a good league for some of them, but our more technical players should steer clear. I don't think the SPL is suited to these players either and id very similar to the Championship, but Rogic has come on in leaps and bounds. Edited by jlm8695: 26/5/2016 11:29:53 AM Mick wasn't happy with Oar's fitness and physicality. Oar didnt have time to improve both of these areas and requested a release. Mick agreed to it as oar wasnt improving as quickly as he would have liked

Great tackling by Gersbach. Needs to be calmer on the ball though.

Smart run, did very well to ride a challenge, then slipped it across the face of goal.

Unsure if this has already been said, but. Club A.S. Cittadella has been promoted to Serie B, which has Italian-Australian Davide Xamin contracted to them (he's 19). Can't really find how much game time he actually gets, but he played most of their cup games as a centre mid/defensive mid as they went on to win the Coppa Italia Lega Pro.
