You might not treated my comment seriously but certain people in the footballing community has good wraps on Alistair Edwards as a coach, dont judge too much on his results in youth football i can see him coaching in the a-league in the near future.

Also the football the joeys played under him in the recent AFC tournament they played some good possession football but for some reason they looked physically smaller than the Irani counterparts which resulted with joeys physically out-runned and out-played by them.

Maybe the Relative Age Affect had an affect too as i recalled the joeys being the youngest team out of all teams in the tournament. :-k

The Iranian team could also have been overage. Alistair Edwards claims that a number of Asian teams/players, who have been good underage, have faded quickly as seniors. The implication being that they starred in underage competitions, because they were older and more physically developed than other players.

I take Krones' point that somebody should be culpable, and that some young Euroroos were not developed in Australia, but like you've heard Barca, people who I respect in FFA, seem to rate Alistair Edwards very highly.

I dont rate him
the facts
his sons dont go through the system
against iran his team did not play to the system
so i forgive me in advance if i have mist something but what has he achieved?

6 Week Cycle Concept- Periodising Training (for preseason) Dean May, Tassie NTC coach, men

Dean May's presentation involved two sessions - a lecture and a practical session

Dean is one of the most confident coaches in the country. Krones knows of him. He has been an army instructor, like Ad Derkson from the KNVB. He frightens all youth players, like Ad did in Canberra!

He stood and delivered with an intimidating style, firing questions at specific members of the audience, not me, because I asked most questions and made most comments from the floor over the course duration. He expressly targeted V League coaches and TDs about what they were going to do for preseason training. There is still an epidemic here of players training without the ball, even in season. He took the piss out of football coaches doing push ups, sit ups, tuck jumps, burpees, boot camps, sprints, distance running, etc.

I don't think anybody else thought it was funny, but I thought it was hilarious. He asked coach after coach, what they were doing for their preseason sessions. Like the KNVB instructors and now FFA instructors, he is fanatic about getting players fit, by playing football, using medium sized games and SSGs. other FFA instructors hold teh same views, but they usually prefer the softly , softly approach - not Dean.

He showed pictures of clubs round Australia running on sand dunes for training. He castigated sports scientists in Australia who quote basketball players or any other sport besides football for trying to dictate what footballers should do.

DM's outside practical sessions were outstanding. Whereas most other coaches, excluding Norm Boardman, appear nervous, Dean loves lecturing coaches on his sessions. He is extremely confident and really is an excellent coach. He is currently assistant for the Olyroos or under 20s, I'm not sure.

Also, as Steelhinho said his instructor did, he stated that he would visit any club anywhere to assist with training, or welcomed any coach to attend his NTC sessions. I'll be taking his offer up. His team plays the best football in the state - proactive or circulation football, win, lose or draw.

I thought he showed a picture of a son in a SAP somewhere or other?

Where are his kids being trained?

He told us a lot of stories about all the running training they did as Socceroos and how futile it was.

Possession-based football leads to Positioning Games.

Had to explain this to a coach. "if you are hitting the runner you are not playing possession football you must play to the player in space".that simple

Another pertinent comment, because it has been discussed a lot on here, is that Alistair Edwards said ultimately FFA wanted pro clubs to take over the development of elite players, not FFA.

the sap was as a session on 1 v 1, technique players start in corner dribble to cone use a 1 v1 skill and pass to player on the outside centrally located, player on outside takes a touch and dribbles to corner he is replaced bt the passing player who has just done the 1 v 1 skill, continuous exercise, repeat exercise using left foot.
oppposed 1v1 , rectangle pitch 2 teams of players one on the short side and one on the long side, first player of team dribbles into square and passes into empty goal and beomes defender, as soon as he passes team 2 player attacks and its 1 v 1 , both teams keep score, continuous game, change the teams starting position over and keep score, finally make the distance to dribble into the square the same .

finish with game 4 v4 in middle of pitch 3 goals in each half, 1 defender in the defensive zone, 1 attacking player on the outside as a winger. have to go 1 v1 into the end zone and score in 1 of 3 goals

Our Game Development Officer did something similar.

Didn't take as many notes as I've seen him on the pitch a lot.

It seems you spend a fair amount of time observing a SAP coach too , Dirk.

Darren Davies from Melbourne Victory youth coach, took a session on the last day.

He said as a pro youth player in England, he was greatly influenced by Ossie Ardiles. He conducted all 5 a side training.

DD said winning means nothing in development.

He also said Postecoglou fired the sports scientist at Victory when he arrived and replaced him with a football conditioning coach.

A number of people claim Postecoglou is dismissive of the FFA NC.

DD, being a vociferous supporter of the FFA NC, and Han Berger, was perplexed when this was suggested.

Football can have its funny moments and the best i have seen gor a while was the demonstration of periodisation from the QAS coach.

It was like an episode of bad lads army with all the bawling at players to press, or was it like watching the worst grassroots coaches in UK.

Europe is funding the war not Chelsea football club
