Got everything I wanted out of that movie. Wasn't mind blowing but I enjoyed it. Only disliked one thing
the Death Star new hope remake
I went in with 0 expectations, and I came out quiet happy with it.
While I felt the death star story was a bit derivative, I loved basically everything else about this movie.
I really love that the movie didn't give anything away about anyone's backstory, (except for Kylo Ren). We've got a tonne more to learn about Rey, and that's cool. To me it's obvious that she has had training before, perhaps by Luke, but for some reason she can't remember who she is.
I really love all the new characters. Poe Dameron is a complete badass.
JJ Abrams has said that the First Order basically came out of conversations they had about what would have happened if the Nazis had gone to Argentina and working together again. I mean the Empire was based on the Nazis so no real shock that the First Order would be too

One of the few negatives i found in an otherwise great movie is that the soundtrack for the most part part was...unremarkable.
It certainly wasn't bad. But it wasn't great either.
Or that she's Ben/Kylo's sister, just throwing that out there. I don't buy Luke having a romantic interest with his rise as a Jedi paragon, and feel that would piss off the uber-nerds which they don't want. Luke may have been the one to take her to Jakku to keep her away from Kylo, however, and it would be slightly possible that Leia and Han wouldn't completely recognise her as an adult (or young adult.) The problem I have with that is it's a little too deus ex machina to have the Falcon magically end up on her planet.
Everything certainly points to her being Lukes daughter, but the fact they didnt shove it down our throats like Kylo makes me think she won't be.
Have to say there was enough balance between reboot and EU continuity that many people will be happy.

Have to say there was enough balance between reboot and EU continuity that many people will be happy. The EU was a giant mess of a thing anyway and needed to be culled (apart from the old republic stuff). The Thrawn Trilogy might have been excellent but a lot of it was rubbish. The New Canon stuff is apparently pretty good because Disney are keeping a tight leash on what direction writers can go with.

Nek minnit Obi's grand daughter / Luke's daughter
I liked all the new characters. To a lesser extent Ren, thought he started off strong, but became real soft as it went on. Turned into the standard boring Disney-esque villain.
Rey was outstanding Fin was good
Shout out to Harrison Ford, 70+ and did great. He didn't want to do more than one movie.

99 Problems wrote:Firstly loved the movie. But there were a couple of things that got to me.
I didn't love the Kylo/Rey fight at the end. Even though his training isn't finished, he's been trained as a Jedi by Luke and then learnt the power of the dark side of the force. I just can't see him losing a battle with someone with 0 training. Will make sense to a degree though if the theory about Rey also training with Luke but not remembering it is true.

I get where your coming from, but I liked that he was inept with the sabre. He cut his training short and presumably killed all the padawans. This leaves only him, Snoke, Luke and Rey as the only Force wielders left. He lives on a space station and trains with no-one. He probably has never had to face anyone in a real duel his entire life. Like someone pointed out. Rey had no swordsman ship or grace. The lunging pokes should have got her killed. They are both untrained, Which is why Snoke commanded Kylo be brought to him to have his training completed. He was probably aware that with the map and base gone, Rey would return as a jedi in training and be superior to his apprentice. Next fight should be much more of a skilled encounter
Also I get some peoples problems with this movie, they all seem valid but for me I think restarting this saga with a 30yr break in the story needed some grounding. This movie not only had to be mega entertaining but also had to set the majority of the characters and their motivations up as well as establish the framework of the powerbrokers for the next 2 movies to build off. All in all I think JJ has done an excellent job. he has balanced the need for a new audience as well as catering for the viewer that has been there for 6 movies already. This would have been an insanely tough tightrope to walk on but he did it well and the next story has a really strong foundation to build off.

In the original cannon, Ben was Luke's son with Mara Jade, who was original a pawn of Palpatine's who's mission it was to Kill Luke, but in the end she fell for him. Loved the movie and where they went with it, although I was surprised that it was a 100% copy of A New Hope.

Disney obviously wanted to play it safe on that front after spending 4billion to get the rights. But I am pleased that a new director and co-writer will be driving episode 8. All the leg work of establishing a new foundation is done so they can really let lose with the next one.

Like I said, the re-tread of ANH had to happen as a more righting the ship and setting up this trilogy. It's exactly what Abrams was brought in for.

Don't think you can ever beat the 3 originals.
But of the more recent ones we have seen from episode 1 to 3. Where does this sit? is it the best?
Personally I liked episode 3 Anakin goes full crazy.!
