No argument about the improvement in quality of football, although one could argue that the evolution of Australian football would have occurred with or without the change in format to the league. Add in that Lowy adopted the 'build the pyramid from the top down' approach resulting in grassroots clubs either having to charge exorbitant fees or struggle to stay afloat and the ridiculous cost of "elite" junior football.

Let's not forget the $42mil of FFA money squandered on a WC bid we were told point blank that we wouldn't win. If Lowy didn't persist with the WC bid due solely to his ego I'd love to hear the actual reason.

Anyhow, we digress, HeyItsRobbie asked why the ESFC/Hakoah comparison and I responded as to how it came about. Had he asked why people persist with it my answer would be the fervent hatred that it generates from some of your lot. What was the image you linked the other day? Something to do with a fish taking the bait? ;)

Let's not jump on the semantics roundabout. The federal government gave the FFA $45mil (not the $42mil I originally posted) at which point it became FFA money. FFA obtains grants from the federal government as do all other codes and while you could argue that our sport wouldn't have obtained such a sum if not for the bid it could equally be argued that the FFA would have received a reasonable amount. Wasted money is wasted, no?

Yes, and it was done with united backing from the Lab/Lib parties. After obtaining a mere single vote, do you think either party would be so quick to open the vault should the FFA go to Canberra hat in hand for another attempt, or for ASC funding for another purpose? The result of Lowy's ego was another inquiry, the resultant Smith report and (eventually) publication of data showing that Lowy's self-purported financial nouse/ era of financial stability for football was utter bullshit.

I'm failing to understand why you seem to be defending Lowy's hand-over-fist waste of money, which as an issue is completely tangential to this topic anyway.

The people that call SFC Hakoah say that because they are no longer allowed to say Juden raus, but we all know that is what they really mean.

Hakoah is just an example of Lowy's double standards. Hakoah can become FC, but SMFC can't become SXFC.

While your link to Gillard's much appreciated $8mil bit of PR work is noted, claiming that the hypothetical I posed was in some way a statement of fact/falsehood is a logical fallacy.

How the FFA sourced the money they spent on the WC bid is completely irrelevant and a matter that I never brought into question to begin with.
