What's this about some Perth Engineer dude who discovered a mathematical based reason that climate change is false?

My guess is that because right wingers have been shown in research to be more fearful people (both in psychological & neuroscientific research), when it comes to global warming, the reason right wingers again comprise the bulk of global warming denial, is because their fear mechanism response is denial, as it is too overwhelming for them otherwise.

Not sure that I would be relying an engineer's non-peer reviewed opinion over a climate statistician, climatologist or atmospheric physicist.

One thing I notice about right wingers is the stark contrast in the dearth of evidence and structured logic to support a position on a particular issue.
Here is some more research that might suggest why:

Quote:
Low-Effort Thought Promotes Political Conservatism

Abstract
The authors test the hypothesis that low-effort thought promotes political conservatism. In Study 1, alcohol intoxication was measured among bar patrons; as blood alcohol level increased, so did political conservatism (controlling for sex, education, and political identification). In Study 2, participants under cognitive load reported more conservative attitudes than their no-load counterparts. In Study 3, time pressure increased participants’ endorsement of conservative terms. In Study 4, participants considering political terms in a cursory manner endorsed conservative terms more than those asked to cogitate; an indicator of effortful thought (recognition memory) partially mediated the relationship between processing effort and conservatism. Together these data suggest that political conservatism may be a process consequence of low-effort thought; when effortful, deliberate thought is disengaged, endorsement of conservative ideology increases.

The hilarious and almost sad thing is that you continue to perpetuate fully serious retorts about right wing political view points to less than serious responses.

You know Ricey, when you enter the big bad world after university, someone is going to rip you to shreds. I'm sure every graduate on this forum has been shredded for being an uppity greeny. Your turn will come :)

Warming of 1.5 to 2 degrees Celsius above current levels could lead to "unstoppable" sea level rise that would last for thousands of years, according to a new model of Antarctic ice sheets.

The new model, published today in Nature, shows that such temperatures would result in 80 to 85 per cent loss of major Antarctic ice shelves, something that is possible by the end of the century under existing IPCC scenarios.

Collapse of the ice shelves would trigger a rapid melt of the Antarctic ice sheets, releasing vast amounts of Earth's freshwater stores into the ocean, said the researchers.

By 2100 this would add up to 40 centimetres to sea levels, melt rate would continue to accelerate until 2300, and sea levels would continue to rise after that for thousands of years......

I was always told through high school and uni that the polar ice caps were melting away to nothing.

So they're not. Doesn't change climate change/rising sea levels but its still an interesting development.

2015 now virtually certain to be the hottest year on record (only a Krakatoa sized volcanic eruption would stop it by blocking out the sun)
The previous hottest? 2014
9 of the 10 hottest? 21st century

Thanks right wing voters. The planet is grateful for your wilful ignorance.

No but the far-right scientifically illiterate nutters News Ltd employs like Andrew Bolt have because they deliberately twist results of a regional study and dumb it down so they can bleat like sheep "more cold stuff = no global warming" and preach their grand conspiracy theories like the worldwide scientific community is using AGW as plot to take over the world .

If you read the whole article there's nothing in this new study that disputes AGW, while the increase in ice in East Antartica is something that has been known for a long time and doesn't conflict with AGW either. As was stated in the article "They also said that Antarctica was likely to gain mass because the warming world would create greater snowfall." It's basic physics that a warm(ing) air mass can hold more moisture and so there's a greater amount of precipitation.

well said, and couple that with the rising sea levels from all that additional precipitation and we have a real problem on our hands
