Good hypothetical. I would ask her if she remembers how close we came to splitting up before I took the lead and reaffirm what she has said many times since - she likes the change.

If she could create a coherent logical argument as to why she should take the lead again with that in mind, which I highly doubt (although you're welcome to hypothesise), I'd have to consider it.

Frankly, if it was going to revert to nagging and me being passive in my own life again it would almost certainly lead to divorce.

Same question but as an adult as opposed to a teenager? Under TRP, has the idea of how/when/who/etc of your daughter eventually dating changed radically? What kind of person do you want to see her date and marry in future? Do you expect to be asked permission to have someone marry your daughter some day?

I'm not sure what your definition of an average bloke is. From my experience, there is a large difference as most men end up white knighting as a reflex.

I've written and lost the answers to pv's questions several times, so will just dump what's salvageable here. Because parenting is such a complex and important issue, I'm happy to elaborate on anything but only ask me one expansive question at a time so that I don't spend so much time on it and end up losing it several times :lol:

For starters, I stopped caving into her crying and whining. As a result she doesn't try it on me anymore, although she's much more successful with manipulating her mum.

My daughter and I are very close, and we have long and funny discussions about things with logical moral nuggets hidden in here and there. Over the weekend we were discussing why it's not ok to hit as it applies to the golden rule, and also that she can't expect not to be retaliated against if she hits a boy just because she's a girl. Discussing that because last week when I went to pick her up from daycare I saw a girl hit a boy and say "you can't hit me back because I'm a girl".


Differently than I would have pre-TRP? I don't think I view her differently, but through different glasses if that makes sense. I think that in the long run it will be better for her.

My views on egalitarianism come into my parenting much more than TRP does.


In some ways yes, in others no. I don't think that is much different from other parents... probably even less so than other parents as I don't push any particular gendered items down her throat. As she's currently so young, we're exploring music and cartoons together at the moment and letting her direct where her interests take her. So she's loving Tinker Bell, The Incredible Hulk, My Little Pony, Spiderman etc.

As she gets older and more hormonal, this will probably change, but hopefully the groundwork of teaching her how to rationalise and internalise will serve her well.


I'm already introducing my philosophies of my life into hers by virtue of her being part of my life. With any luck it will help her be able to identify and own her shit and not accept the infantalism of women that modern feminism demands.


I hope she'll be much more intellectually and emotionally aware than the average teenager. I love our conversations now, I can't wait until she can read, develop, discuss and explore new ideas for herself.

I think it will be different by ensuring that she is more enabled to make her own path rather than expecting the world like other teens do.


Most men realise in their adult like that the world doesn't owe them anything, where I don't think that women do.

This is why I'm not going to tell her about the money until she's 21 and developed her own sense of ethics and philosophy.


By not treating her like a princess, I think that she'll be a much better girlfriend/partner/wife. I also hope that by being open and frank with my own philosophies that she won't fall into the trap of jumping onto the infamous carousel.


I want to see her date/marry someone that:
A) Enables her to be the best person that she wants to be.
B) She can respect.
C) Calls her on her shit.

You see so much "no man is good enough for my perfect little princess" stuff, that it's no wonder that a large number of women (and society at large) assume that they are infallible in relationships.
