There's no "English Gov". British Parliament has no say, it's locally approved and Haringey council has already provisionally approved it, with the mayor coming out and saying how great it is that Spurs are giving back to the community, staying local etc.

Old rules used to stipulate that stadiums for teams competing in europe used to require backing and funding from that nation's government. So either Tottenham don't actually plan on competing in europe any time soon, OR those rules have been lifted.
I like the way spurs are 'staying local' with a grand total of TWO lads born on that side of London in the first team squad.

And 'staying local' is a reference to the fact that Spurs home ground has been within the borough of N17 since 1882. A fairly decent achievement. Not to mention the fact that Spurs spend something like 150 times more than any other club on charity, a significant amount on local ones. And do Liverpool not only have 2 first team players from 'that side' of Mersey?
