FFA Cup Rd 1 - Keysborough 2-4 Fawkner Yesterday · An entertaining first round match took place at Tatterson Park between two teams showing they wanted to progress to the next phase of the competition. Keysborough took an early lead through a penalty, but with the aid of a handy breeze Fawkner hit back to go in at Half Time 3-1 up. As the second half commenced there was a feeling amonsgt the crowd that it if Keysborough got a goal it would place Fawkner very much on the back foot. Instead Keysborough were reduced to ten men about an hour into the match, but that didn't stop them from getting on the front foot and they found a deserved second goal. After a fine save from the Fawkner keeper from a free kick, the blues went straight down the other end and delivered the sucker punch which sealed the match. Edited by scott21: 23/2/2015 09:08:40 PM

Monday, 23 February 2015 - John Greco Comments It was another huge weekend of preliminary rounds in the Westfield FFA Cup with some huge scores around the country as Western Australia kicked off their first matches of the year in Geraldton and a 15-year-old scored a hat-trick in Victoria. Chapman Athletic and Olympic Heat were the two sides to advance to the next stage in WA, the Heat producing an excellent performance to knock off the Geraldton Rovers 3-1. There was plenty of goals in Northern NSW as some clubs flexed their muscles with huge wins. The pick of those was Mayfield Senior United who trounced Dudley Redhead United 17-1. Singleton Strikers also hit double figures as they crushed Muswellbrook 12-0, Beresford United put 10 past Warners Bay, while Kahibah (9-1) and Valentine (8-3) beat Westlakes Wildcats and Lake Macquarie City respectively. Other notable results in Northern NSW included Kotara South’s 7-1 demolition of Mereweather Advance, while Hunter Simba edged Morisset United in a nine-goal thriller 5-4 and Medowie beat Tenambit Sharks 5-3. Victoria also played host to a stack of matches across the weekend with plenty of thrilling action. Truganina Hornets were among the most impressive, chalking up a 6-1 win over Marcellin Old Collegians, while Hoppers Crossing had little trouble in disposing of Newmarket Phoenix. The best individual effort of the weekend arguably came from teenager Marcelo De La Plaza-Sanchez, the 15-year-old bagging a hat-trick in Laverton’s Park’s 4-1 win over Northern United. Other results in Victoria included: Brimbank Stallions beating Old Xaverians 6-3, Brighton knocking off Mitchell Rangers 3-1 and Noble Park edging out Casey Panthers 4-3. I love the idea of having all the games at a single location in Newcastle. If I lived close I'd park myself there all day.

In one way it might be unfair if one team keeps getting the home matches. On the other hand it might provide the best conditions (pitch and such) for the matches. It makes it easier to view potential opponents too.

This is pretty much the definition of early round matches!
Edited by Footballsack: 22/2/2015 06:14:23 PM I feel for Dudley here. They were an all-age team last year that decided to step up to seniors. Mayfield are 3 or 4 leagues above them, and are arguably the best side in their division. Great to hear about Hunter Simba. I've played officially with a few of the boys, and with&against the majority of them in street soccer, and they're all fantastic players and really good guys to go along with. I agree that it sucks for Dudley, but I think we've all been involved in a white wash before. You do learn from them. These early fixtures do need to be taken with a pinch of salt. 17-1 is a huge scoreline, but when you're dealing with a team four divisions above you, that's honestly not a horrible result.

Quote:Could Borroloola’s Cyclones be our next Cup fairytale? 2/2 The Westfield FFA Cup was a breakout success in its inaugural year. What will 2015 have in store? Tuesday, 24 February 2015 - Aidan Ormond Comments The Westfield FFA Cup has already witnessed amazing fairytales from Bentleigh Greens and South Springvale in 2014, now an Indigenous club from the Gulf of Carpentaria have a chance to etch their name into national Cup football history. NT Football has been given one direct slot into the Round of 32 of the 2015 Westfield FFA Cup. As a result, over the coming months there’ll be knockout Cup qualifiers in Darwin and Alice Springs to find a winner from each city. The respective winning teams will play each other in a one-off knockout match set for June 27 in Darwin at the city’s main football stadium. The winner will then be the NT’s representative in the Round of 32 of the Westfield FFA Cup to kick off in late July. On Tuesday night the Darwin Cup qualifiers will be drawn, and Alice Springs qualifiers are drawn on Saturday. One fascinating story from these NT Cup qualifiers is the inclusion of FC Borroloola Cyclones. The Cyclones have been placed in Darwin’s Cup qualification and have been busy preparing for their unlikely shot at Cup glory. The Indigenous outfit is based in Borroloola, population around 1000, located close to the Gulf of Carpentaria and Barkly Tablelands about 1000km from Darwin. It would be a huge story if the Cyclones won the NT’s only spot. It’s a long shot but as Football NT CEO Craig Chapman says: “Anything’s possible!” It’s not the first time Borroloola’s been on the national stage. Thanks to the John Moriarty Foundation, a group of youngster from the town visited the Socceroos at their World Cup training camp in Brazil last year. Chapman added the Westfield FFA Cup has given football in the Territory a huge injection of excitement. “Already you can feel a massive effect, there’s a big buzz among the clubs. This is the first time we’ll play in a national competition," he told www.theffacup.com.au“The media has really got on-board with the Cup and it’s fueling even more rivalry between Alice Springs and Darwin to see who’ll represent the Territory in the Round of 32.” Read more at http://www.theffacup.com.au/article/could-borroloolas-cyclones-be-our-next-cup-fairytale/9a98t33rb4cs19jg9zacnqjtw#1lwRi78oB7jik7Da.99 http://www.theffacup.com.au/article/could-borroloolas-cyclones-be-our-next-cup-fairytale/9a98t33rb4cs19jg9zacnqjtw

Darwin soccer giants want FFA Cup berth DARWIN Olympic have called in the big guns in their bid to be the Territory’s representative in the 2015 FFA Cup. The Darwin Academy of Sport has teamed up with Olympic to provide athletic performance coaching services to their football teams. As football in the NT enters a new phase with the entry of the FFA Cup, the NT teams will be up against other Australian teams who have more resources and coaching staff at their disposal. The inaugural FFA Cup last year was hugely successful and the NT will have a representative in the draw for the last 32 of this year’s tournament. “The team at the Darwin Academy of Sport provides a range of services not previously offered in the NT to support emerging athletes and club coaches,” owner Paul Mead said. “We recognise that the budget of club sport is far less than professional sport, and as such the ability to employ a range of support staff is not achievable. “However, we believe that bringing a high performance attitude and culture to club sport is still vital to assist in the achievement of success and to support the growth of emerging athletes.” The academy of Sport takes a holistic approach to athlete development, concentrating on four main pillars of athletic performance. “They are movement, athleticism, wellness and cognitive development,” Mead said. Movement looks at how well athletes move and to understand why they might be getting injured or how we can increase their range of motion to reduce injuries in the future. Athleticism looks at strength and conditioning, running technique and agility. Wellness covers individual nutrition, hydration, sleep and recovery education. Cognitive development covers personal goal setting, mental toughness and resilience skills training. “The interaction between the head and assistant coaches with the athletic performance coaches is vital to create durable athletes able to perform to a level required in the FFA Cup and other high performing competitions,” Mead said. “We don’t just come in and provide fitness training to the club, we look at the whole development of the athlete and their athletic career while supporting the coaching staff.” The Darwin Academy of Sport is also working with the NT Thunder, Hoggies Netball Club, Wanderers FC and Palmerston Magpies FC. http://www.ntnews.com.au/sport/darwin-soccer-giants-want-ffa-cup-berth/story-fnk0b2ce-1227200594043

Beard of the tournament so far. Seen during Laverton Parks match Quote:The Slavia Melbourne Soccer Club is a defunct Australian association football (soccer) club that was based in Melbourne, Victoria. Club was founded in 1950 by Czech migrants and would go on to become a leading club in Australian football. Slavia competed in the Victorian State League from 1956 to 1970 and 1973 to 1980. Through its history the club went by a number of names, starting out as Slavia, then Port Melbourne Slavia, Essendon Slavia and finally Prahran Slavia.[1]
The golden era of the club was in the 1960s where the club won many titles, most notably the Australian Cup in 1963. The club never won the Victorian State league, finishing Runner-Up on two occasions in 1966 and 1977. By the 1980s the club had fallen on hard times and in 1983 the club ceased to exist when it was taken over by the Chilean community, today known as the Laverton Park Soccer Club.[2] Ole
