Damn, I knew a lot of people don't like the suburb but this is a bit excessive... Are they moving to SA?

Maybe the suburb's club will be able to complete their FFA campaign from there.

Relocating to NT. They are hanging their heads in collectibe shame after losing to Caulfield United Cobras. Three tiers difference.

Random fun fact: South Springvale's ex-FFA Cup (now at Green Gully) keeper who happens to have Iraqi heritage is awaiting international clearance after being called up to the Iraqi squad for the upcoming friendlies and training camps.

Hawkesbury won 7-0 over West Ryde and played some good football. Pretty impressed. The game itself was good to watch. Highlight was a bicycle kick from the 18 yard box that went in.

Two of last year's FFA Cup qualifiers were in action today, hoping to back to the Round of 32 again (Broadmeadow Magic and South Cardiff).

It got me thinking about how many of last year's qualifiers will make it again this year.

So how about an early prediction. Of the 22 non-A-League clubs, how many will qualify again this year? As a reminder, these were the clubs:

Hint: The maximum number is 19 (of the 7 from NSW, two spots were lost to the NPL Champion and NT, and only four can make it based on the draw)

My guess is 10.

Maximum number now is 18, with St Albans Saints knocked out over the weekend.

Broadmeadow Magic & South Cardiff have both won their first games, as have Bentleigh Greens & Melbourne Knights. South Springvale have won twice now.

Hard to say with NPL only just kicking off.

Don't think Hakoah will make it back in without Lloyd Owusu, but that's the magic of the cup. Weird shit can happen.

Hoping APIA get in this year. Would like to see Sutherland host an inter-state club. That'd be a fun mid-week clash.

Belconnen United granted entry to quarter-finals of ACT FFA Cup qualifying rounds

Last year's Federation Cup winner Belconnen United has been granted an exemption to enter at the quarter-final stage of the ACT FFA Cup qualifying rounds.

Capital Football also admits it's disappointed with Football Federation Australia's decision to restrict each club to entering one team in this year's FFA Cup.

Eighteen teams from Capital Football will contest the second edition of the nationwide knockout tournament, which pits A-League professionals against amateurs and semi-professionals from across the country.

Belconnen United will come in at the quarter-finals after winning last year's Federation Cup, but not playing in the FFA Cup.

Tuggeranong United represented the ACT last year, beating South Hobart before hosting A-League giants Melbourne Victory in front of more than 5000 fans at Viking Park, with the match shown live around the country.

Belconnen United had originally asked Capital Football to bypass the qualifying rounds and face the ACT winner in a playoff, but club president Jaime Garrido was satisfied with the outcome.

"At the end of the day we've got to do what's best for football in the region," Garrido said.

"Last year was an anomaly with Tuggeranong.

"In an ideal world we would be representing the ACT, but it is what it is and we're more than happy coming in at the quarter-finals."

Capital Football clubs will enter the competition in the third round with the aim of securing the one place reserved for an ACT team in the main draw.

Clubs were able to enter several teams from various divisions in previous years of the Federation Cup, but the FFA has decided to limit each club to one team.

Capital Football chief executive Heather Reid said the move was designed to increase the standard of the competition and to remove the confusion of two teams from the same club playing each other.

"The FFA has said that it is one team, one club," Reid said.

"That's been a bit disappointing, but again, this is a FFA competition we're part of and FFA is controlling the eligibility of teams."

Six of the 10 State League teams entered in the FFA Cup - ANU FC, Brindabella Blues, Canberra City, Goulburn Strikers, Lanyon United, Narrabundah, O'Connor Knights, Queanbeyan City, Weston-Molonglo FC and White Eagles - will be drawn to play each other in the third round in April.

The remaining four State League clubs will receive a bye to the last 16.

They will be joined by National Premier League teams Canberra FC, Canberra Olympic, Cooma Tigers, Gungahlin United, Monaro Panthers, Tuggeranong United and Woden-Weston FC.

Meanwhile, Capital Football is awaiting approval from the FFA before it can announce who will be the new coach of W-League champions Canberra United.

An announcement is expected to be made this week.

Championship-winning coach Elisabeth Migchelsen has accepted a position as the assistant coach for the South African women's national team.

Clubs take first step toward FFA Cup glory
Luis Narvaez

Mackay via Sydney, a bleary-eyed David Sinclair didn't miss a beat.

The Scottish midfielder orchestrated a 4-1 Wanderers win in the first round of the Mackay region FFA Cup on Saturday night.

Wanderers' coach Dan Healy said his side played well as a unit after they were down to 10 men early on after a send-off.

"Matt Weistra did the running of two men," Healy said.

"Dave Sinclair was magnificent and orchestrated the match."

"He (Sinclair) is like the conductor of a big band, the way he plays."

It wasn't all great news for the Reds, who have suffered key early injuries ahead of the long football season.

In the early game, Magpies coach Richard Carroll snagged a first half hat-trick before resuming his usual role.

His Magpies SC Mackay side had an easy 13-0 win over West United as they look to again feature in the big time of the regional rounds of the FFA Cup.

Carroll was joined in the hat-trick circle by striker Hayden Hearne and recently returned David Reponen.

"It was good to have the run-out," Carroll said.

"After last weekend, when we played the tournament in Burdekin in the heat, a few lads needed a rest, so we had a different side to usual."

Carroll said he wasn't concerned who his Magpies side played in the second round of the FFA Cup but wouldn't mind drawing another of night's strong performers, Wanderers FC.

"They were good and I'd rather them now than in a grand final, where anything can happen," Carroll said.

FULL TIME

FFA Cup, Regional Round 1:

Magpies 13 d. West United 0

Crusaders 5 d. Brothers 0

Whitsunday 1 d. Country 0

Wanderers 4 d. Lions 1

I'm really happy with the progress that the FFV have made into making these matches happen frequently. I feel like they're active as shit about it, unlike some federations who are still sitting on their asses over it, such as the FFSA and NNSW. The Northern Inland Round 1 matches still haven't taken place, but Victoria is already in Round 5, after starting effectively in Round 0. The FFV has so much time now to allow for postponements and stuff. I just feel that the NNSW matches will all be rushed (Round 6 and 7 take place over consecutive days for fuck's sake). This can't be good for amateur players.
