Al-sadd signed Xavi to play in Qatar for AUD$14M a season, absolutely ludicrous money but everyone has their price

Shows we need to rely on lifestyle to lure people here

Koren out Barton in plz

Bringing up Barton isn't a bad idea, teams could probably poach a few QPR players on the relative cheap after they've been woeful for so long
Barton, Zamora, Tarrabt (chubster would love taking the piss here), Shaun Wright-Phillips, kranjcar

Worked for him. Pretty sure it was one of the factors of bringing over Del Piero too.

WOLLONGONG WOLVES FOR A-LEAGUE EXPANSION!

Cambiasso seems like he would tick a lot of boxes, Big name who has played for some big clubs, still playing at a high level, playing in the EPL which would make him more more well known than if he came from Inter

fiorentina are looking to offload Mario Gómez to anyone they can, his contract expires in 2017

Probably too early to make a serious play at him (hasn't cracked 30 yet) though

Would kill it in the A-League, surely could be persuaded if the price is right but I can definitely see teams of higher caliber showing interest in him.

the range of marquees is changing. there will be less moves at retirement age big names. broich, janko, berisha are better for the team than ADP or Heskey.

Whilst I agree with you, i do think the league needs an element of "Star power" as evidenced by this season. Stars generate interest, which increases attendances/viewers which increase sponsorship/TV deal which generates cash for us to develop better players, market the game, and increase the cap.

I do think the player needs to be right for the team however.

At the same time the quality of the football also brings people to game, I look forward to the difference between star power and performance closing, and teams gaining players that arent just being used solely for the purpose of getting bums on seats(because they used to play in the Epl), and getting ones-like Marc Janko-who have a greater impact on how the game is played.

Teams like the jets and mariners just need to be better with their recruiting of foreign talent.

Some of these guys could really help improve there on field performances

Tbh i think the best compromise would be to target players around the 30-31 mark, still young enough to actually be useful and would have been overseas long enough to build a name for themselves. Need to pay big cash (and i know this would be years down the track), but it would pay dividends on both ends

Gomez has been quite injury prone for us the past 2 seasons. Yes apparently getting good interest at Schalke. Shame to see him leave but he doesn't suit the style Fiorentina play. Very much possession and ball to the ground.

Someone mentioned Cambiasso. That would be a ggreat pickup.

From the Bundesliga the following are retiring. Simon Rolfes, Pavel Krmas, Maik Franz. Krmas is 35 so fair enough but the other two are not finished and could definitely play two A-League seasons.

Rolfes is particularly interesting as he was always at the high level at Leverkusen and didn't decide on an easier gig in the Buli2.

Marek Stankevicius is 34 and probably won't be kept by Hannover. He can throw the ball at least 35m like a rocket and has a good hard free kick. After stints in Italy and Spain it'd be nice to see him go to the A-League.

If City can get Kennedy on the long term injured list they should sign Samaras as an injury replacement and try to get him long term. He is only 30 and an eligible Australian marquee. He would help getting people through the gate albeit some Greek Australians and Celtic fans. With success City could grow there membership and popularity. Would need to be a 4-5 year project though with no injuries.

Was watching bein's coverage of bundesliga's final day, Hamburg are in the promo/rele playoff against Karlsruhe, if they lose they go down and will be ripe for the picking

Rafael van deer Vaart (contract expires in June)
Heiko Westermann (6/15)
Johann Djourou (6/16)
Ivica Olic (6/16)
Valon Behrami (6/17)

Of those 5, van der Vaart, westermann and olic would absolutely kill it, olic and vdV more likely out of the three though as I think westermann has never played outside of Germany as a pro

Dimitar Berbatov released by Monaco
Quote:
Dimitar Berbatov has left Ligue 1 side Monaco, the club announced on Monday.

Berbatov, 34, a former Manchester United, Tottenham and Fulham striker, who has been reported to be of interest to newly-promoted Premier League side Bournemouth, joined Monaco from Fulham in January last year.

However, 18 months later, his time in the south of France is over.

A statement published on their website read: "Monaco want to thank Dimitar Berbatov, this great champion, for everything he achieved for the club.

"His character, his professionalism and his great talent helped the team achieve their goals in Ligue 1 and in the Champions League. Monaco wish him the best for the future.''

Vadim Vasilyev, vice president and chief executive of Monaco added: "Dimitar Berbatov showed all his talent and great professionalism.

"He is clearly among the greatest strikers who have played for Monaco. We are proud of what he brought to the club and wish him the best in the future.''

In addition to Berbatov's departure, the club announced that Fulham goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg, who joined Monaco on a season-long loan, will not be with Les Rouges et Blancs next season.
