the range of marquees is changing. there will be less moves at retirement age big names. broich, janko, berisha are better for the team than ADP or Heskey.

Whilst I agree with you, i do think the league needs an element of "Star power" as evidenced by this season. Stars generate interest, which increases attendances/viewers which increase sponsorship/TV deal which generates cash for us to develop better players, market the game, and increase the cap.

I do think the player needs to be right for the team however.

At the same time the quality of the football also brings people to game, I look forward to the difference between star power and performance closing, and teams gaining players that arent just being used solely for the purpose of getting bums on seats(because they used to play in the Epl), and getting ones-like Marc Janko-who have a greater impact on how the game is played.

Tbh i think the best compromise would be to target players around the 30-31 mark, still young enough to actually be useful and would have been overseas long enough to build a name for themselves. Need to pay big cash (and i know this would be years down the track), but it would pay dividends on both ends

Of those 5, van der Vaart, westermann and olic would absolutely kill it, olic and vdV more likely out of the three though as I think westermann has never played outside of Germany as a pro

Dimitar Berbatov has left Ligue 1 side Monaco, the club announced on Monday.

Berbatov, 34, a former Manchester United, Tottenham and Fulham striker, who has been reported to be of interest to newly-promoted Premier League side Bournemouth, joined Monaco from Fulham in January last year.

However, 18 months later, his time in the south of France is over.

A statement published on their website read: "Monaco want to thank Dimitar Berbatov, this great champion, for everything he achieved for the club.

"His character, his professionalism and his great talent helped the team achieve their goals in Ligue 1 and in the Champions League. Monaco wish him the best for the future.''

Vadim Vasilyev, vice president and chief executive of Monaco added: "Dimitar Berbatov showed all his talent and great professionalism.

"He is clearly among the greatest strikers who have played for Monaco. We are proud of what he brought to the club and wish him the best in the future.''

In addition to Berbatov's departure, the club announced that Fulham goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg, who joined Monaco on a season-long loan, will not be with Les Rouges et Blancs next season.
