So we are about 4k behind last year at the same point in time. Davo if you get a chance to do your proper updates that would be great but in the mean time hopefully this helps a little.

And that 4k down is literally only down to Brisbane Roar.

Really good news.

It's a bit deceiving and not only down to Roar. Victory are about 4-5k up on the same time last year which is masking the low numbers across the board.

Once AFL/NRL are done for the year, watch the hype ramp up going into Monday.

A-League launch on Tuesday so we'll have a whole week of clear air before kickoff on Thursday night.

Not bad at all given the circumstances. Is it just the price or is there another cultural factor for the Jets having a relatively high membership base?

The price is good, the club culture has vastly improved, we have a team and manager which could break the mould this season and Newcastle is historically parochial

He was a man of specific quirks. He believed that all meals should be earned through physical effort. He also contended, zealously like a drunk with a political point, that the third dimension would not be possible if it werent for the existence of water.

Yeah, I find it strange that supporters have all of a sudden decided not to sign up as members because they won't be able to see Gombau run up and down the field for 30 seconds during the game. And here we are thinking that people are going to games to watch the style of football on offer..

Let's not try and make excuses, obviously they are doing something differently. Probably less exposure from the marketing department or community engagement. Their training centre has obviously cost them funds which may have been spent in other areas. Which may be fair enough if they are thinking of the long term.

But the point still stands that considering the performances on the field during the past few years, strange that there's been no real upswing.

My theory on AU memberships:
The numbers aren't that far down on where they were last year. Both the Crows and Power had record membership numbers this year. The Crows had a strong year on the field, Port did last year and were the best team outside the top eight.

These things take time - Port are a club with a nearly 150 year history and nearly 20 years in the national league. It takes a generation before clubs reap rewards from the seeds they plant. AUFC will one day be looking at big numbers - everyone just has to keep building, work hard and be patient.

In a way, their numbers are already not far off, from being 'big' - or big in the context of pushing to the level or context of WSW-ilk, re: 'Stadium Scarcity' with Hindmarsh and it's barely 17k capacity. 10k members gets close to that already and only a couple thousand more and AU will be joining WSW in that kind of member territory and perhaps greater weight, clout, to pressure local government to further improve Hindmarsh and their stadium options, medium-longer term. If AU's crowd average can back up such member figures (So essentially near selling-out Hindmarsh, every home fixture), then the growing need will certainly come into such infrastructure considerations for government, as they did for WSW.

IIRC, some AU fans talked of Hindmarsh and how it's site and/or zoning has developmental limitations or restrictions... less they kind of do like the proposed Parramatta scenario and just demolish the old stadium and build an entirely new one, on the same site?! :-k

Gotta say I'm impressed my Newcastle's numbers. 4th highest memberships in the League, even beating Adelaide and City.

Need another 700 or so by tomorrow night to hit 90k.

Yep last season by round 1 we were at 97k. It then kept climbing due to the early season hype.

Unless the clubs get fanciful in their membership techniques to try and skew the numbers I doubt we'll get over 100k - 105k this season.

Get on twitter and ask them. They will be quick to respond. Just make sure you add Pignata to the tweet. That will ensure admin reply and get it sorted asap.

With such a long off season and membership drive, they really should have these things sorted weeks ago. Shouldn't be expecting fans to receive their membership packs 48 hours prior to round 1.

I spoke to Shane (head of the club's membership dept) at a preseason match last week - he says they should be arriving late this week, but if they don't come in time the club will be emailing members printable tickets as a contingency for the City match.

I guess Sydney must have pinched the membership department from the Mariners as well. Ours were well and truly late last year (to the point where people had to collect stuff from the stadium), but managed to come through 2-3 weeks before the start of the season this time around.
