If anyone ever questions the heart that these boys have I will personally hunt you down. Can't say it was the prettiest game I have watched from both teams but the effort and determination shown by the boys was fantastic considering the pitch, heat you could have almost called the game off and the refereeing was the worst I have ever seen in any format of the game.
Vietnam had there chance to equalise with a missed penalty and couple of other chances. In the end this should keep all the results lovers happy off to India here we come.

The Joeys have qualified for the AFC Under-16 Championships after a courageous 1-0 win over Vietnam in Hanoi on Sunday.
Needing a win to leapfrog the hosts on the ladder, Mersim Memeti’s first-half header proved enough for Tony Vidmar’s side.
Memeti timed his run perfectly, getting to the far post from a corner to head the ball back across the ‘keeper and into the far corner of the net,
The goal was a just reward for the Aussie youngsters, who dominated the first 30 minutes and had already had two goals disallowed for offside.
There was a score in the second half when Vietnam was awarded a penalty but much to the Joeys relief the taker put the shot wide.

The victory means the Joeys have qualified for next year’s AFC Under-16 championships, where the youngsters will then try to reach the FIFA 2017 Under-17 World Cup.
“In the end in terms of result, we did what we had to do, but in terms of performance it was not to the standard of what we are capable of,” Technical Director Peter de Roo said.
“The group has shown to have a lot of potential, and we now have time to work towards the next challenge against the best in Asia next year.”

Good to see the boys win. No doubt would have been a real fight at times so good to see they fought through it.

I think they need to start training our kids at the COE on the bumpy pitch down the road rather than always on top notch pitches.

What's the point in exclusively training our players how to play on pitches like a billiards table if 99% of their qualifying matches for major tournaments are played on cow paddocks? Surely they need to learn how to adjust their technique according to the pitch they're playing on...

maybe also 1 month before ualifying get them to play and train in north ueensland to expose them to the humidity as well.

[size=9]Olyroos name squad for Korea Republic friendlies[/size]

Olyroos Head Coach Aurelio Vidmar has named a 23-player squad for two international friendly matches against the Korea Republic in the Hwaseong and Incheon next month.

Vidmar has selected 13 overseas-based players, 7 Hyundai A-League players with Aaron Lennox, Ryan Edwards and Brad Smith currently uncontracted.

Last weekend’s draw for the AFC U-23 Championship saw the Olyroos grouped with United Arab Emirates, Vietnam and Jordan and Vidmar can now focus on the task of qualifying for the 2016 Olympic Games.

"These matches are another important step in our preparations for the Olympic qualifiers in January,” said Vidmar.

“Korea Republic will provide strong opposition as we head towards the Qualifiers and gives us the opportunity to work on so a few things and keep improving so we give ourselves the best possible opportunity to qualify for the Olympic Games.”

“The spirit among the players is fantastic, they’re keen to learn and be part of the Olyroos so we’re really looking forward to these matches.”

The Olyroos will face the Korea Republic in two friendly matches on 9 and 12 October at the Hwaseong Sports Complex Stadium and Icheon Sports Complex Stadium respectively.

Australia begins its AFC U-23 Championship Doha 2016 campaign against the United Arab Emirates on 14 January at the Grand Hamad Stadium, before taking on Vietnam at the same venue on 17 January, with their final group match against Jordan on 20 January at Suhaim Bin Hamad Stadium.

Sixteen (16) nations have qualified for the AFC U-23 Championship Doha 2016 with the top three (3) progressing to the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games Football tournament.
