Last year the boys had a hard time with Vietnam but controlled most of the game on a shocking pitch and very hot conditions. Japan will be a great test. You would think that we could finish top two and go from there. I know there is a lead up tournament in Cambodia again this year, starts 10th July. There have been a few players trialling atm along with the boys at the COE. The FFA COE haven't been doing well in the Canberra NPL this season, assuming there are many players to choose from in other places? Wouldnt they be from academies now?

Yeah that's a good point I think most of the boys from last year's squad are at the coe and the rest are either at HAL/npl clubs or overseas.

Yep, this should be the litmus test of where the NC is at, hopefully there will be something on youtube or something, it would be interesting to watch them play.

From what i've seen with SAP its improving our players individual technical ability i.e first touch, dribbling and 1v1s in attack of our players but its the other parts such as football IQ i.e decision making, passing, crossing, positioning movements in attack and defence and to some extent and shooting needs more work on but i largely suspect that can be improved on with good coaching at a decent club environment.

Ok, so we want to see some flair and confidence in taking the man on, good ball control, good passing and tackling. I would expect basic shape and drilled plays, like forward runs, cut backs and crosses, in a few different formulated ways. We should expect poor pressing, poor choice of pass and tempo and unreliable creativity in player movement and passing. Because you have to have the basics down pat and they would have only had 2 years developing creativity, movement and pressing. I would also like to see powerful heading and technical striking. (really watch some Bayer Munchin or Porto drills, both singular objectives and incorporating defence and attack which makes it more fun for defenders). Well this is what I would like to see at this age and would like our NC to be aiming for and believe that is what it wants to be. It creates a technical and tactical base, then the more advanced coaches can teach tactics and creativity how ever they like and realistically should be starting to at this age.

Since the FFA announced the appointment of Gombau to the u23 job as well as assisting with the u20 side.
Is there any news regarding squad announcements from the joeys or from the young socceroos?
I read on here the u16 side are going to play in the AFF Cup, i'm assuming it would be the same side?

The u16 should be leaving for Cambodia on the 5th. I believe that most if not all of the current COE boys will be going with a couple of new faces to make up the 23 man squad. The squad will be very different from the last lot that went to both Cambodia and Vietnam in 2015. Good luck to the boys that are going and lets hope we get the internet feed.

wouldn't the money be better spent playing some A Leaugue academies youth squads or something like that. This AFF thing is an FFA political ass kiss to keep the shite countries happy. Ego boost to young joey players results in nothing. The last joeys group, when tested at WC and against other quality teams, got flogged.

Edited by Barca4life: 1/7/2016 09:40:18 AM[/quote] I guess that with quite a few boys not excepting and or not offered a COE scholarship it make sense to take the boys that did. The qualifiers will be in Sept which then you would think this tournament gives the coaches a chance to see what everyone can do and then take the best squad possible to the qualifiers. There has been quite a few boys that have been looked at and monitored over the passed 12 months which IMO is great.

The fact that these boys are experiencing the travel, harsh conditions, different styles of play is fantastic. They still might play some HAL squads and currently play in the Canberra NPL seniors. BTW has any one you know been in a joeys squad and been OS? Ask them what they thought and if it was beneficial to their sons development?

That's the bloody problem with the Aussie national teams set up. Favouritism and bias rule supreme!

Quote:Joeys head to Cambodia for AFF U-16 championships Joeys coach Tony Vidmar has named a 23-player squad that will contest the 2016 AFF U-16 Youth Championship in Cambodia later this month. The squad includes all 18 scholarship holders at FFA’s Centre of Excellence, with Western Sydney Wanderers and Marconi Stallions contributing two players and the Emerging Jets one. Australia’s U-17 national squad will depart for Phnom Penh over the weekend for a pre-tournament camp before their first match on 10 July. Having been seeded third for the ASEAN tournament the Joeys were drawn in Group A and have been pitted against Myanmar, Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam and the Philippines. The top two teams from each pool will progress straight to the semi-finals, with the Joeys hoping to improve on last year’s third place finish. FFA Technical Director Peter de Roo said the tournament would bring into fruition the style of play the squad have been working on for the last five months, while also providing an opportunity for players outside their Canberra training environment. “The expectation is that we are going to further develop and work on our playing style,” said de Roo. “This tournament is a great opportunity to test ourselves and our playing style against Asian opposition. “We want to take a good look at our players and where they are at as well as those that are not in our environment.” - De Roo said the tournament would also help prepare the Joeys for the AFC U-16 Championships which will be held in India later this year. But the squad was solely focused on winning the south-east Asia event for the first time since 2008. “The AFC U-16 Championships are in September, we have a great draw, some tough competition in the group stage, Vietnam being one of the stronger teams in South-East Asia. “Japan also in our group - tough group, the tougher the better as we are not afraid of any team in Asia. “We play every game to win. Ultimately for us it is about testing ourselves and players and creating the optimal preparation for the AFC U-16 Championships. “Of course we are going there to win, but we only think in terms of performance and improving in every match.” Joeys squad for 2016 AFF U-16 Youth Championship Surname 1st Name Club Akbari Rahmat FFA Centre of Excellence Aquilina Thomas Western Sydney Wanderers Bafford Bryce FFA Centre of Excellence Brook Lachlan FFA Centre of Excellence Callen Luke FFA Centre of Excellence Castaneda Eduardo FFA Centre of Excellence Cox Kaleb FFA Centre of Excellence D'Arrigo Louis FFA Centre of Excellence Fletcher James FFA Centre of Excellence Griffiths Jordan FFA Centre of Excellence Italiano Jacob FFA Centre of Excellence James Noah Emerging Jets FC King Joel FFA Centre of Excellence Monge Fabian Marconi Stallions FC Moric Mark FFA Centre of Excellence Muratovic Mirza FFA Centre of Excellence Obst Benjamin FFA Centre of Excellence Roberts John FFA Centre of Excellence Scibilio Patrick FFA Centre of Excellence Selden Jaidon FFA Centre of Excellence Suman Nicholas Western Sydney Wanderers Trewin Kai FFA Centre of Excellence Valenti Adrian Marconi Stallions FC Read more at http://www.joeys.footballaustralia.com.au/article/joeys-head-to-cambodia-for-aff-u-16-championships/y9bgwgyzqkgy1nm0atultbhi4#XVy2Fhb7uATxmbvt.99 Looking at the squad and comparing it to last years team there a couple of players that are not there such as the kid from WSW the 15 year old Najjarine? and the 2 Melb City lads who JDBO3 is your son? Also the kid from Liverpool the defender Dylan Ryan? Not sure about this surely you should looking the very best players and not just select from the FFA COE, whom i have nothing against im sure they are talented within their own right but i'm surprised they did not the select the players that did really well last time. Anyway i wish the young lads all the best, great experience.
