Brisbane Roar fans’ anger at Bakrie Group shouldn’t be taken out on the players

Quote:
BRISBANE Roar fans refusing to renew their yearly memberships and threatening to boycott home matches because of their anger over the Bakrie Group’s ownership of the club need to realise where their loyalties should lie.

Whether supporters like it or not, the reality is that the Bakries own the Roar and have decided they are not ready to sell the club.

They have made a commitment to Football Federation Australia that they intend to fix the mess the three-time A-League champions find themselves in.

The club’s loyal players aren’t to blame, and neither are the hardworking football department and office staff who have worked tirelessly in extremely trying circumstances in recent months.

But they are the ones who are going to suffer due to the lack of members and low crowds.

Unpopular club owners are hardly a rarity in the world of football, but supporters don’t abandon their team because of their frustrations with off-field matters.

Fans staying loyal to a team, regardless of boardroom and ownership shenanigans, is part of the fabric of football, as well as every other sport.

If Roar supporters really want an ownership change, they aren’t doing themselves any favours by their boycotting tactics and threats.

Potential new investors would much prefer to buy into a thriving club, not a fractured franchise.

The Roar have made some smart moves in the way they have restructured their operations and should be applauded and recognised for their efforts in tough times.

It also needs to be remembered that the Roar aren’t just any club. This is a team that has won three A-League championships, a feat that only been matched by Melbourne Victory.

But while the Victory enjoy fantastic support, the Roar don’t. That needs to change

Fans must make themselves heard and with articles coming out it shows that in this case the membership (not attendance) boycott action is being noted. The power that be are now worried. Hopefully there can be a satisfactory resolution for all parties.

Interesting that Manly Warringah have not paid their rental for Brookvale oval, and its seems they consider they are entitled to do that because the rental is high, yet would be nothing compared to Suncorp.
Media seem to treat this totally different to A-league teams.

New Summer Franchise will be back in town next Season, competing for the entertainment $$

Interesting points of difference

1. Dropping the "Brisbane" (that the Roar took up)
2. Using Maroon (that the Roar dropped)
3. NBL will run it themselves till they can find proper owners

Quote:
BRISBANE will bounce back to life in the National Basketball League next year with an old name and familiar venue but new colours.

NBL officials will be in Brisbane today to address the corporate and basketball communities about the return of the team, which will continue to be known as the Bullets, after seven years in the wilderness.

Brisbane will also adopt the traditional Queensland sporting colours of maroon and gold instead of the blue and gold once worn by the three-time NBL champions.
It will mirror the colour combination of the Cleveland Cavaliers in the NBA, whose spearhead is superstar LeBron James.

NBL bosses will hold a forum with basketball identities, potential sponsors and future ownership partners at the Brisbane Convention Centre today.

They will then unveil the team’s new logo and its first fulltime employee, believed to be assistant coach C.J. Bruton.

5 REASONS WE LOVED THE BULLETS

Bruton is a six-time NBL title winner as a player, including the 2007 championship with the Bullets, and gives the club an identifiable and credible face.

The NBL has been swamped with applications for the Bullets’ general manager role, which was advertised last week.

The NBL has also identified a number of possible candidates to be head coach.

The team will play at two venues in the 2016-2017 NBL season. One is set to be the Brisbane Convention Centre at South Bank.

NBL officials were also interested onlookers at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre for the ANZ Championship netball grand final when Boondall was configured to hold 7000 spectators.

The Gold Coast was also keen to host some NBL home games.

NBL general manager Jeremy Loeliger said it was a no-brainer to call the team the “Bullets’’.

“The Brisbane Bullets are returning to Brisbane. It is such a strong brand,’’ Loeliger said.

“They were the Bullets from 1979 so it would be unfortunate to see a Brisbane team by any other name.

“There’s been a few false starts (with returning a team to Brisbane) but we are here to reassure people that this isn’t a false start.

“Brisbane is such a strong market for basketball.

“We are happy to stand up and make sure the Bullets are back in 2016-17.’’

He said the colour scheme change was to “embrace the spirit of Queensland’’.

An accounting firm has been engaged to manage a tender process for possible investors to eventually buy into an ownership consortium.

The foundation club died in 2008 after former childcare mogul Eddy Groves handed back the ownership licence to the NBL.

The return of a Brisbane team was part of the recent broadcast deal struck with Fox Sports, who will televise every game in 2015-16 as part of a five-year arrangement with the NBL.

When a foreign EPL team comes into town and extracts 5 million dollars in one hit from football supporters no one points this out.
WHy worry about a basketball team.
Look how memberships have taken a hit in Adelaide as well despite recent success.

The HAL offseason will be the Bullets big hype time.

That leaves the Roar with the current playing season to repair the Brand

And right now they're not talking to the media about any future plans..............

You know when "side-show bob" is beating you you're in trouble. Time for the FFA to guarantee the tickets if Roar go under (some people believe memberships will be lost if that happens bizzarly), time to launch the lite memberships packs (3,5 and 7 games) and time to start marketing membership sales. Preseason Roar will do well to hit 4,000 on the current run rate, lite memberships would see it push the 7,000 mark. Still poor but relatively speaking an improvement

Why do CCMs numbers fluctuate? Doesnt even make sense.

FWIW Im not renewing myembership with Bakries still in the fold. Rather pay for Fox to watch the games on tele since theyre the ones paying the players anyway.

Look, I personally think not renewing membership/attending games is not the right approach - the Bakries have done a lot of damage and a boycott will only make things worse. I renewed for the players and myself. That said I won't level any critisism at folk who won't renew - the sh*t Dobson and Fong threw out last season was unbelievable and relentless; I know other people like to chip in with "fickle roar fan" comments but you had to live the last 12 months of bull to realise the last couple of months has broken a lot of people. Maybd think again about your membership? if anyone is going to get us out of this mess it's the players and the fans, but fans at home don't help none !
