I was mainly talking about her disgusting music. If you are going to make the populations ears bleed you might as well do everyone a favour and be appealing on the eye.

The parachuters should not have jumped yesterday at the scg

I remembered watching band of brothers: Wind, rain or poor visibility would have not made the paratroopers jump
So why should they have done it for the amusement of some yesterday?

Class oppression?! No bloody way.

Smoking is absolutely disgusting and should be eliminated as soon as possible.

It's bad for everyone around you, and no one wants to smell it. Right now I'm in Thailand, and one of the worst parts about this trip is being in the piece and quiet of hotels and then suddenly having a cloud of someone's smoke waft over you.

Gross.

What I learnt last night baked:

Prince is Michael Jackson to people who don't like Michael Jackson

He was a man of specific quirks. He believed that all meals should be earned through physical effort. He also contended, zealously like a drunk with a political point, that the third dimension would not be possible if it werent for the existence of water.

Not saying we shouldn't discourage smoking, just saying that attempts to discourage it have gone too far.

- Tobacco taxes are hugely regressive and target a group of people which happens to be overwhelmingly dominated by less educated and low-income individuals, taking a big chunk of their disposable income.
- Mandatory smoke free zones, by excluding smokers to some extent, therefore exclude less educated and low-income individuals - it's just another way for wealthy people to keep 'undesirables' out of their cafes/bars/plazas.

Christianity has dominated Western society for two millennia and has itself been responsible for marginalising millions of people... smoking is an unpleasant/unhealthy habit.

Not sure how you figure that one.

For what it's worth I'm not a smoker.

I'm not a smoker either but I am a fervent anti-nanny stater.

It is ridiculous that smokers are banned from public places like the beach and parks etc.

Flat out ridiculous.

Restaurants, offices & enclosed public spaces I get, a giant outdoor beach where the wind is blowing 99.9% of the time? Give me a break.

I do hate however, how smokers have taken over beer gardens in pubs though. (Not their fault admittedly.)

Because they can't smoke inside they've all been shunted outside into a small beer garden in the sunshine and you're stuck in a dingy pub instead of having a cold schooey in the outdoors.

Listen to shit by Mumford and Sons, Tame Impala instead
 Couldn't name 1 Mumford and sons song and thats the first I've ever heard of Tame Impala. I live in a rap bubble. I pay so little attention to everything else.

We are complete opposites

Mumford is just incredible.

Tame Impala are a more acquired taste. I couldn't get into them at first, but eventually they grew on me. Very slow though.

Courtney Barnette is a weird one... She's super rough and I just don't get the hype but I wonder if I don't like the sound because she's a woman. Not in a sexist sort of way, but I just tend to prefer listening to male vocalists... Just something that I noticed one day when going through my iTunes.

(*edit* I didn't want to go on a rant here, but this issue is something that's been stewing on my mind over the past year or so, sped up by things like the Adam Goodes saga and the lock-out laws. Bear with me if you can- you've been warned!)

There are two groups of people in Australia who are giving me the shits because they (more than anybody else) are contributing to the erosion of our culture, common identity and improvement as a Western, first-world nation.

The first people I want to call out are the Baby Boomer, conservative wowsers. The people who control the majority of our country's wealth, own the majority of property and land and (with the ensuing group I'll name) have the biggest influence on our laws and policies. These people stay wide awake at night, terrified that somewhere out there young people are taking drugs, getting drunk, enjoying loud music or doing anything else that involves having fun in groups. This fear is fuelled by the horror stories fed to them about P-plate drivers, girls overdosing at music festivals (never mind the army of Police and sniffer dogs that panics them into doing this), coward punch attacks and whatever other storm in a teacup is the flavour of the week amongst the trash media. As a result, these people wilfully support virtually any new laws that make this country an even bigger nanny-state than it already is, under the guise of "well at least they're doing something because these people can't control themselves"- and God-forbid if you want to get a bottle of wine in Sydney after 10pm. Hooligans! This wouldn't be so bad if our government (made up largely of 'boomers themselves) didn't introduce and encourage all these ridiculous, borderline condescending laws as a way of short-term vote buying rather than using some common sense, thinking long-term and considering that our country is fast losing its' "laid back" reputation that has proved so popular with overseas visitors.

The second group are the Gen Y/ Millennial hipster leftist, green, Invasion Day, perpetually offended brigade. These people are too young and naive to realise that so much of the media geared towards their demographic (Triple J, Ped. TV, Buzzfeed, ABC News, The Guardian, The Daily Show, Huffpost, The Project etc) is biased and usually stacked with people who all just happen to agree on climate change, refugees, racism, feminism, LGBTQWERTYBVCXSAAHGFTCBM rights etc. They truly believe that somebody like Waleed Aly is a centre of the road "voice of reason" and that the only bias exists amongst racist Bolt, Jones, Hadley and all those other people their handlers and the cool people tell them to despise. The Adam Goodes saga revealed how dangerous the line of thinking from these people is: that you virtually cannot criticise anybody from a minority group (whether a long existing minority group or one of the 5 new minority groups you've been discriminating against, created each week) without being instantly screamed at as a bigot/ racist/ homophobe/ Islamophobe/ transphobe/ evil right-winger etc, regardless of what it is about that persons actions/ words you disagree with. Rap and hip-hop were based on not caring about political correctness and freedom of thought/ expression, yet even the Aussie rap scene has become a leftie circle-jerk. Whether it's Briggs with his copy-paste of the "white racism" meme from American culture, Illy wanting to "flood the houses of climate change deniers" or any of these other artists hating on evil Rupert Murdoch, conservatives, the Catholic Church and the usual leftist bogey men while preaching about Islamophobia, climate change, feminist issues, refugees and the like- even the rap scene has become infected with this mind-cancer. The worst thing about all of these people? They think they're smart and they know what's really going on- because they're told so day after day by their handlers in the media. They think the validity of your opinion is dictated by the colour of your skin, your gender and what university degree you have. They don't see racism or sexism when it's directed at white males (because fuck those privileged racists, right?) The don't realise that modern day universities are largely production lines for the next batch of useful idiots to repeat what they've been indoctrinated with. These people- as a whole- are turning our country into a hysterical bunch of whiny piss-babies who want to shut down debate and freedom of speech whenever it suits them- and give certain people/ groups a free pass because to demand equal accountability is "racist" "sexist" or "Islamophobic". They're too stupid to realise that instead of bringing us closer together as a nation, this obsession with ethnicity, culture and gender is actually dividing our country.

The thing about these two different groups of people is that it's a working definition of horse shoe theory. I'd like living in Australia a lot more if I didn't have to listen to the bullshit from these people and watch them take our free, multicultural, egalitarian society down a dark road. I fear that these people are why we will never have stable government again. Even somebody as fondly remembered as Bob Hawke would have been chastised as PM in this day and age for being a sexist, boorish, beer-sculling idiot (and probably something about racism or white male privilege as well). John Howard (who even won over a fair few traditional Labor-voters in his time) would have been given the same bashing Tony Abbott did- and look how long he lasted...

This is the greatest thing I have read on 442 for a long, long time.

I've read a bit of your stuff Mr Haddock's and, generally speaking, have not usually found myself in agreeance with what you written but in this case....

You have, however, let off one mob absolutely Scott free, and that's my Generation. Generation X.

Just about every single nanny-state, cry baby law, enacted into legislation had it's origins with my generation and their incessant whinging and whining about every little aspect of their pathetic lives.

Constantly pissing and moaning about how kids these days are hopeless and wrapped in cotton wool they have absolutely no introspective insights into the fact that they are the very people responsible for their own darling children and their behaviour and the fact that they have turned them into these namby pamby adult children.

Those clowns, coupled with mothers who got their doctor's degree from Mr Google who believe every bit of garbage foisted upon them on the internet by anti-vaxxers and diet gurus and weight loss snake oil salesmen are another subset of X'ers who need to snap the fuck out of it and wake up to themselves.

The 'everyone gets a trophy or a medal no matter how fucking useless you are' generation were created by X'ers and they shouldn't get a free pass either.

Your kid plays too much X-Box then kick him off it.

Your kid eats shit food then stop buying for them.

Your kid can't ride a bike

......can't cope with adversity

I enjoyed both these posts.

Didn't agree with everything there, but there's a lot of merit in what was said.

Honestly, I cannot comprehend how kids get away with the stuff they do these days.
Parents feel the need to be their kid's best friend. That sort of fear/respect that kids used to have for their parents is gone it seems.

Smokers are.
I grew up in a house with 2 pack a day parents they both stopped after i moved out and both got chronically ill, but i love walking past a smoker and copping the smoke it is really kinda relaxing or something but... wide is asthmatic and I've seen what it does to her and it really sucks so i get the no smoking areas.

I'm not a smoker either but I am a fervent anti-nanny stater.

It is ridiculous that smokers smoking are banned from public places like the beach and parks etc.

Flat out ridiculous.

Restaurants, offices & enclosed public spaces I get, a giant outdoor beach where the wind is blowing 99.9% of the time? Give me a break.

I do hate however, how smokers smoking have taken over beer gardens in pubs though. (Not their fault admittedly.)

Because they can't smoke inside they've all been shunted outside into a small beer garden in the sunshine and you're stuck in a dingy pub instead of having a cold schooey in the outdoors.

Just on this one...
Smokers are not banned from anywhere.

Smokers / smoking... you know what I mean.

Christianity has dominated Western society for two millennia and has itself been responsible for marginalising millions of people... smoking is an unpleasant/unhealthy habit.

Not sure how you figure that one.

For what it's worth I'm not a smoker.

Christians pretend they're marginalised now that LGBT rights are gaining momentum. Look it up. The reason for brining it up is because smokers claim to be discriminated against but no one is forcing them to smoke.,

Lgbtqi whatever nonsense is a first world/ anglosphere problem

Go be lgbtqi in Saudi Arabia or said non progressive country. You might not get stoned, hung, have a finger or ear cut off

But you'll get laughed at

I've read a bit of your stuff Mr Haddock's and, generally speaking, have not usually found myself in agreeance with what you written but in this case....

......Fucking nail, fucking head. Bang on, on every point.

Your kid can't ride a bike

......isn't independent

......can't cope with adversity

......cries over spilt milk

......lives at fucking home until they're 26?

That's your fault you pig ignorant friggin numpties.

/rant.

Now you'll excuse me whilst I deal with another clown in another thread.

The first group doesn't rev me up as much as the second. Being shunned by them because I can see sense in these situations where you can't be PC just frustrates me. In the end I'm glad not to associate myself with these people and avoid them wherever I go. Better be quick because I'll be branded a racist for entering the room before a non Caucasian person.

I'd like to extend it to that hipster group who attack my enjoyment of football and come out with comments to try and make me feel inferior. Only words but it's never fun to be told I'm wrong because I'm not into the arts, drugs or vegan. I accept that you're a vegan, good for you. Being told I'm wrong for enjoying steak is annoying.

The way she sings too: "Isn't it cool and ironic how much I sound like I'm not even trying?" No wonder the hipsters lap that shit up.

Don't even get me started on the comparisons of her to Paul Kelly...
