They really aren't They are only representative of a very small sample who just happen to be very loud Basically the same demographic that 15 years ago WOULD have called talk back radio to complain about the boogy man "du jour". With things like community groups, you have wide ranges of opinions as opposed to specific newspapers or forms of media where the respondents are targeted. If you read shit like the Sky News page, it's full of those nasty left wingers, the ABC full of nasty left wingers. Community groups have the best and worst of both  Aha yeah I guess there's the loudest idiots from both sides these days. I do tend to find (if we do need to reduce it to sides) the right leaning has more numbers among the loudest idiots with usually a handful of lefty defenders responding to everyone like zealots but anyway. Somewhere in between all the freaks, purposely avoiding all comments on all forms of media (outside this place obviously)these days, is me. You're not wrong. I find the right idiots to be far more numerous. However the left idiots (if we're going down this path), hide behind pseudo-intelligence and 'sources" for their opinions. I like reading opinions. Always curious to see how people approach the issues in their lives.

I fucking love the opinion that unless you're living a lifestyle, you can't comment on it  Edit: the emotion is based on the comments I see across the internet and talking with people and the frustration that these people expect things to be handed to them.

Hahahahahahaha!!! I almost wrote a furious response. But then I realised no one could be so stupid as to take FB comment threads seriously. No one could be that stupid. It's just not possible.

Then that is an issue with their fanbase and not the music itself.

See above. There's a reason Pitchfork have given two of their albums a <3 score.

Edited by bethfc: 19/5/2016 03:27:30 PM The thing is, I don't make much commentary based on "the community thinks this" or the community thinks that". I hate generalisations. Usually I am directly responding to something that has been stated or claimed by a specific person. Trying to gauge "community opinion" is pretty pointless to me. Mainly because it is so varied. Anecdotal evidence is just about the worst way to measure anything. If you are wanting to see how much people are on welfare, look at the stats. Don't bother reading FB comment threads to work out if people are rorting the dole!

It's not about generalisations, more about noticing trends. A distinguishable trend was dissatisfaction over the first Liberal budget under Tony Abbott. One thing I noticed following Malcolm's budget was that people felt like the low income earners/welfare recipients got nothing out of the budget. Straight out of the Murdoch's Rags handbook :p It's only a problem if you're one of those people who wants to deal in absolutes. I work in the dark arts of engineering dirt and rocks so absolutes mean nothing to me. Half of my job is based on anecdotal evidence  AzzaMarch wrote: If you are wanting to see how much people are on welfare, look at the stats. Stats don't tell you anything about how people on welfare are faring or their attitudes towards their situation though. A bar graph isn't going to inform you about attitudes towards the government. Facebook is great for showing that people are angry over this budget because there isn't enough investment in health and education and that rich people apparently got a tax cut ;)

The thing is, almost everyone thinks they're doing it tough. Even trolls with multiple investment properties think they are doing it tough even though they have the luxury to put that money into additional mortgage payments ;) Wanting more invested in health, education and other infrastructure isn't always a "what about me?" argument. You look at how shit the inflation and growth figures are and you can make an argument for increased spending in the right areas.

It isn't reflective of anything. And depending on what source it is from you will either get right wingers or lefties or whatever commenting. It just isn't representative of anything. You need to widen your sources! I am not talking of absolutes anyway. I am just talking of worthwhile sources vs pointless sources. FB comment threads are garbage.

Well let's face it, we call all do with 3 more 0's on the end of our bank account balances  Health, education and infrastructure are the staples that result in growth (how Shorten-esque does that sound) Giving everyone a tax cut means we can't spend money on health. My POPULAR opinion is that if we can't cut revenue in line with earnings, politicians and their entitlements should suffer first, they're responsible for it

I turned on the first episode of GoggleBox in order to "hate watch" it and tell all my friends how stupid an idea for a TV show it is.
But then I actually really enjoyed it, and have been a fan ever since.
Much like Homer Simpson with eating tulips, this is my secret shame!
