Co-corporations are not people.

The line of faulty reasoning above is why they have things like Citizens United in America, utterly corrupting politics.

It's not prohibitively expensive, but you do need 500 members to be registered as a party.

That would be good enough for an informal vote after the senate changes prior to the most recent election.

The 500 members thing was what Pauline Hanson went to prison for, yeah?

Batty, I'm condescending to you because I've known your forum personality (you may be different in real life) long enough. You only ever come in here when you perceive that the Liberal party have some positive headline, despite your claims that you're not biased you clearly are. I'm biased too but I'm upfront about it.

If my suggestion that your claim about low primary vote is actually pretty meaningless and to think otherwise would suggest that you don't understand the voting system or that your stubborn adherence to this claim meaning something is not worth continuing to argue over, is "ignorance or arrogance" to you then I'll wear those badges. You did nothing to refute my rebuttal, you just continued on with "lies and deceit", "cat piss" and other dumb language.

People can make up their own minds but my opinion on who is arrogant and ignorant is quite different =;

you talk in circles and never respond to questions......you would make a great politician ....talk heaps but say nothing meaningful, so you are telling me that the lies about medicare are acceptable to you during an election???

do you also deny the local issues such as westconnex and council amalgamations had no impact on the marginal NSW seat in western sydney????
I'm on record as saying I didn't agree with how the campaign was worded, however the Liberal party are no friends of medicare and will do whatever they can to dismantle it. If you care about Medicare you certainly should not be voting for them. If that's not answering your question and going around in circles to you then I don't know how you get on in life.

Your original question though was that it was an effective campaign, polls didn't change dramatically in the last couple of weeks oh yes you can really trust the polls, they were smack on;) when the campaign was running (if anything they went the other way) so I'm not certain that it was that big a part of it. I think there were a number of other factors including the Liberal party being all talk about "Jobs and Growth" but not having any plan for it apart from big business tax cuts. The other major party actually had a few more policies and got a positive swing towards them so good for them.what absolute rubbish, shorten was caught with his pants down time and time again with his lack of policies and sketchy costings that were proven to be flawed....

As for local state issues, maybe? Sometimes they do so I'll take your word for that.

What were the polls saying? 50-50 2PP (with a 2% margin of error I believe) for at least a month before the election. What was the result?

As for the other one

Partly. It was wrapped into the funding received from having more members reported than existed.

But it was never sufficiently proven (juries are fickle things) and easily turned over on appeal.

That was also a state case, which can be different from federal politics.

It is interesting to see that the major parties raised about $80 million each over 5 years.

Pales in comparison with the spending in the US (even accounting for population difference).

I am glad we have compulsory voting here - it minimises political spending to some extent, because parties don't need to spend to encourage voter turnout, they just have to campaign to get you to vote for them.

I'd be in favour of a really strict ban on political fundraising - limiting donations to individuals (as opposed to organisations) and maximising donations at say $1,000 per year, along with "live" disclosure of donations online as they come in.

You could then expand the public funding of political parties, based on votes received.

Once you ban businesses and unions from funding politics, I think you will see more sensible policies.

Yes, not all Unions are affiliated with Labor, and their members can vote to affiliate or disaffiliate as they wish.

The Union I'm a member on is not presently affiliated, for example.

I am on a Board of a Union which makes me a Unionist, and yet I voted Liberal and the Union I am involved with is affiliated with the LNP.

It will NEVER, support Labor for valid reason. We had millions worth of law suits in the late eighties and early nineties against the Hawke and Keating administrations.

Australian Federation of Airline Pilots will never affiliate with Labor and the history stems back to the Pilot Strikes in 1989.

That's part of the socialist agenda!

Of course, it isn't a very funny issue or a laughing matter. If anyone has read Marx and Engels, in it are elaborate details of how the nuclear family must be deconstructed and weakened to the point of destruction where people are isolated as individuals and compromised to resist the implementation of the socialist agenda which also has as its aim the restricting of free speech, free press and free media.

We now have PC, and it will not stop.

I don't care to much because I got my ticket to the Ionian Coast in Greece for retirement with my Aussie Super. There is no PC there or socialist bullshit.

So while you guys are eating sardines out of a can, I will be eating my Souvla and Dolmades whilst looking at topless babes on the beach!

Australia is becoming too fucked up and life is too precious to waste it in Australia.

Speaking of Politics and Political shows isnt it about time that we get rid of fossils like Barrie Cassidy hosting Insiders?

The man scares me, those bulldog cheeks, he looks like hes 77 years old (probably a million). and he talks about things that dont matter to everyday people (like an old person does). People like him should be sitting at home watching tv wearing shorts and a hawaiian shirt

I agree...people should watch that movie Scarface to highlight what lengths people resort to escape socialism once they've had a taste of it

Umm that is a movie . Not real life my friend

Based on real life events...the characters are fictitious but Castro did free the refugees from the prisons in Cuba to make their way to Florida

Oh dear.

They were prisoners that were released from the prisons not refugees.

I hope you don't think Scarface is a documentary?

Speaking of Politics and Political shows isnt it about time that we get rid of fossils like Barrie Cassidy hosting Insiders?

The man scares me, those bulldog cheeks, he looks like hes 77 years old (probably a million). and he talks about things that dont matter to everyday people (like an old person does). People like him should be sitting at home watching tv wearing shorts and a hawaiian shirt

Mate it's 9.00am on a Sunday morning. The only blokes watching TV on Sunday morning over the over 50's and political nerds.

He fits the demographic perfectly.

And anyway who are you going to replace him with? Rove?
