There was one moment where he could have played a pass along the deck to Chery who had a bit of space around him, but he decided to go the long through pass instead and you can see Chery was frustrated. I honestly wonder what the instruction is from JFH, there is a combination, I wonder if players are confused.

ive noticed a shift in tactics from last year.  they are definitely moving towards nicer football.  i think the personnel changes what can and cant be done. also - a lot of high pressure games become quite aerial as the end looms and teams try to chase back a goal.

luongo has more often than not played as a deep lying midfielder/playmaker or box to box over the last few years. i dunno wtf ange was thinking putting him on as a wing.  setting him up to fail.  as long as ange is stuck on playing 3 at the front we wont be getting the most out of our NT.

Yep, our best overseas players are almost all midfielders.  Seems silly to play with so many up front.

Mooy and Luongo were both excellent. Mooy and Payne were considered the best two on the field for Hudderfield and Luongo man of the match.
On the other hand Rogic was terrible. Rogic looked to be lacking confidence, his ball control has left him and his passing was no good. The only good thing he did was a couple of tackles. He is more likely to be dropped entirely rather than get a starting spot if he continues to play like that even though Celtic were poor and Rodgers might look to change the team.

Qpr v Leeds was an ordinary game. Hardly any playing out from the back, both keepers just reefed it up the field. More often than not the defenders kicked long when under pressure. Luongo was good but mostly picked up crumbs from long balls. This game actually personified what many people say about the style of play in the Championship. I hope this was not what we'll see all year, particularly as Qpr are one of the better teams. To be honest , on last nights game, Leeds would struggle to beat the top A League sides

heresy!
People seem to be miss interpreting end game strategy with a lack of skill.  The first half was dominated by QPR who played the majority along the deck, even in the second half there was some very nice, crisp passing.  Why would a team risk passing out from the back when they are in front against a desperate team with little time left on the clock?  They don't, because it is idiotic.

Leeds were fucking disastrous though, and they did hoof it long almost every time, despite having some decent wide players.

You wouldn't have said that at the start of last season. He has improved immensely under Hasselbank which is understandable as he was a brilliant striker in his day.  Damn good finish as well for his goal.

The Olympic Thread in extra time is dieded. So I'm mentioning this here for A-League lovers. Roy Krishna scored a cracker against Mexico this morning in Rio. Can watch on Wellington Twitter.

Our best players are center mids and we already play with 3 center mids. No way should we play with 4. (Well we have played as a diamond but that pushes 2 players wider where those individuals aren't as effective.

I definitely feel that 3 center mids is the way to go. The best 3 I'm not sure.

Well that is a very interesting website. Can't believe I've never seen it before.

Mooy made the 5th most passes in the league with 75, and equal second number of key passes with 4. I'm not sure how the come up with the ratings though it doesn't look particularly accurate.

I think it's perfectly acceptable for this thread to be used for news on players of relevance to Australian football even if they're not Aussie themselves, like Rojas, or eligible for the Socceroos, like Traroe. Just my opinion though.

Can ratings of a subjective nature be taken as gospel? Probably not. A lot of forumers value it as a source though. Always good to have another opinion in any case.

Fair play. The Olympic Thread isn't really about football, it's about the other sports. This being a football forum, football stuff should feature more prominently and, thus, we have a separate Matildas Thread in this part of the forum.

Mexico are quality, so it's no small matter to put a great goal past them.

Langerak concedes. Rubbish defending which sees the left back get evaded and a nice hard cross in the hardest to reach spot goes across the goal to the striker. The CB stalled and essentially gave the striker the freedom. Langerak with a strong parry two minutes later.

the mabil red was very harsh, should have gone to the other player if anything.

Yeah seen the footage, doesn't look Mabil did anything at all ... should have just been a talking to for both players (along the lines "Come on boys almost half-time just relax"). Unless this was not the first incident between the two??
