+xCan Okon be evaluated on the basis of the results and the way they've played since he was put in charge of these sides, however? I haven't been thrilled with okon's performance often plays 2 6's against teams parking the bus struggle to maintain posesion in opposition territory

+xThe Young Socceroos played WSW yesterday, they lead 1-0 at HT but in the end they lost 4-1 at FT. The sooner Gombau comes in the better please, i don't think Paul Okon is capable enough. Reluctantly, I have to agree with you, Barca. Okon needs to coach a youth team in the HAL , at best, coach a senior team in the NPL for some years or go overseas like many others. He needs far more week to week experience before he get gigs like national teams. Arthur Papas has a far more varied CV. Too many coaches, just because they've been former national team players are being promoted far too quickly through the system. Darren Davies has done a lot more HAL youth coaching and assistant senior HAL coaching, so is a better credentialled candidate for assistant national team coach. Having said this, Vidmar was the youth coach at AU (I think), but has done a far better job with the under Joeys than Okon has with the under 20s.

I can only judge from Okon's TV persona, but he seems to be an incredibly serious, uptight and tense individual - totally devoid of humour and fun. I strongly doubt that his communication skills would be adequate as a head coach. It seems his best role could be an assistant coach.

Final camp underway at gosford for the u20s prior to team selection for Veitnam tournament in 2 weeks or so . Not sure if Gombou will make appearance , he is in Sydney so imagine he would take a run up the freeway.

+xWatched game and must say very disappointed with u19s Terrible in Defence , slow in transition , passing was all over the place , players looked as if they had just met one another this week ( which is probs the fact)Don't know if we can blame Okon as 3/4 of the squad that played in Laos are either injured , overseas or not realeased by clubs .Looks a very disjointed operation 2 months out from Aisian cup , not sure if Gombau will be silver bullet unless he can call in all of the best 97 and 98 born which is doubtful . Thanks for the round up. Why and who are the best players not available?

For the short term I want the regional cup. The AFF cup is our short term focus and we should aim to win it. The kids are further along the development chart.

Gersbach , Desilva , Tanner ,Glover and Holmes all overseas Mells, Alessi , OToole , Fofanah and Devlin injured That's a big percentage out of the 23 man squad . Granted Desilva and Tanner didn't go to Laos but are probs our best midfielders , maybe also put in the young ONeil lad that debut for Burnley on the weekend.

If O'Neill is going to remain part of the first team at Burnley he should stay there. Would learn a hell of a lot more playing with a Premier League first team than he would under Okon or whoever is in charge of the U20s

Agree 100% Reality is with these underage teams we very rarely get all the so called "top players" yet if we don't win or qualify for major tournaments we tend to crucify the coach .

It becomes a question of where to draw the line. You've got a point. But when the coach oversees failure after failure after failure and the style is deplorable, eyebrows need to be raised at the very least.

With only 6 days before squad departs for Veitnam , the u20s have no coach but better still the 23 man squad has not even been announced . If we can qualify for 20s WC in Korea it will be a miracle . All the FFA is worried about is Socceroos don't give a shit about underage , in fact rumor is that they may use Okon leaving as an excuse to pull out of Veitnam tournament .

Josh Mccloughan should be a consideration, has worked with the Socceroos, and joeys in the last 2 years and of course ex Roar youth coach.

Surely its just Gombau taking the spot.
They couldn't announce him as the head coach originally as it would have been massively disrespectful towards a former great player in Okon.
With Okon gone you'd think Gombau would get promoted from 'assistant' fulltime coach to just fulltime coach.
And I don't know why people think we'll be worse off for having no officially announced coach in any case. Okon was a tragedy. Even the much sought after inanimate carbon rod would do a better job than him!
The squads been playing friendlies and i'm sure the squad has been announced to the players, just no the public because the FFA doesn't think of these things much.
