Roar - 17k - Despite the lack of members, i get a similar feel their attendances won't suffer a similar fate. 28 degree's and sunny, will be a perfect night for sport. New signings like Holman and no ownership issues for a few months now. Also Victory in town is bound to bring a buzz.
WSW - 63k - Would love to see this hitting the high 60's but expectations seem to have been tempered a bit, largely due to the rain expected. Let's hope it stays clear.
Perth - 12k - Lot's of hype around the club but unfortunately up to 8mm of rain predicted and a top of 20.... I had this in for 15k originally but now would be happy with 5 figures. Again, let's hope for a forecast change!
Wellington - 7k - Recruitment has been good, but pretty much the only good news.... memberships are down, no big foreign marquee in from City to bring in the average Joe and a top of 16 degrees. Hopes aren't high for this one.
Newcastle - 11k - New owners, decent membership turn out and 24 degrees and sunny with no other A league games on the Sunday. Additionally, the hype of the Sydney derby the night before will help drum up a league interest in Newcastle in the Sunday papers. The sacking of Miller the only downer, but hoping for 5 figures here also.
Total 110k

Roar/Victory PAX is at 10,561 plus 4,225 members so they're getting optimistic :) the press coverage for the HAL launch this week has actually been excellent as well

+x+xAlrighty then, first round attendance predictions: Roar vs victory - 14k Phoenix - City - 9k WSW - Sydney FC - 67k Perth - CCM - 12k Jets - Adelaide - 10k The big variables are the derby and the Roar who haven't got their shit together, but really should be getting a solid attendance given their on field quality and playing victory who traditionally draw a larger crowd in brisbane. Interestingly we could go close to the record round attendance if that derby is as high as people are saying it will be I think you're being a tad generous with some but generally agree with what you've noted down. Roar Victory 12k Nix City 7k WSW Sydney 66k Perth Mariners 10k Jets United 10k (if they announce a coach) On second thoughts and after a bit more build up (finally) I reckon Perth and Brisbane will both draw bigger crowds. Anything less than 100k combined would be a bad result. I'm thinking we'll go close to 110k across the board.

+x+xRoar v Victory should nudge 20k Would like you to be right. Will be 14-15k. With around 12k already sold + 4.5k members and walk ups, 18-20k should be achievable considering the perfect weather.

Roar v Victory crowd is being talked up big time locally, "nudging 20,000" which would be an astonishing crowd and would prove in my mind that marketing does actually work in this town.
The cyinic in me thinks 14-15k "as usual" but as the 4.5k members include half on 3/5 games so maybe 2.5k members turn up, those boycotting membership are clearly buying tickets so add 12.5k and then walk ups of maybe 1.5k and maybe it's 17k?
Just glad to be back with football after yet another off-season full of BS up here!

I agree 20k would be a huge ask, but still doable based on current sales, add in circa 70k for the derby and the A-League season is of to the races big time.

+x+xPerth will get close to 15,000, Saturday night, first home game, 6k members already sold up and exciting squad. That would be massive. Not sure about this now due to weather turning got the worse. Showers and a storm likely with fairly decent winds predicted. Hopefully it blows through before the game. I'm gonna guess 10k but hope I'm wrong.

Yeah I don't reckon we will be getting 20k tonight. Maybe 14k more likely.

The record attendance for a round is 106,082 for Round 2 in 2014-15 (33k for Adelaide v Victory at AO, SFS hosting a derby with 41k and 15k for Villa's home debut for City against the Jets, by far their biggest home non-derby crowd) with Round 1 in 2013-14 also cracking 100k (Melbourne Derby, Sydney v Jets and 17k at CCM v WSW).
Hopefully this record is going to be smashed obviously mostly with the derby, but not without help from today's fixture in Brisbane, although Nix at home to a sans-Cahill City, Glory hosting CCM and Jets v Adelaide probably won't be sending the turnstile counters into overdrive.
I think round 2 might even top this one, with the Melbourne Derby also helped by Adelaide home to WSW and Sydney v CCM, both of which should do alright for crowds, padded out by Jerks v Roar and Perth hosting a distance derby.
Either way, it'll hopefully be an attention grabbing two weeks.

Perhaps ironically, the highest attended round without a derby (6th overall) was Round 1 in 2014-15, an inverse derby round where Victory hosted WSW with 30k, and Sydney got 25k against City, of course, that was the debut of one David Villa for City. Adelaide also contributed a near sellout 16k against Brisbane, but there was only 10k at a Jets hosted F3 derby, and the less said about the "distance derby" hosted by Phoenix the better.
My point is, the season doesn't have to start with derbies.
Of course, the best way to up the overall round attendances would be to expand, lol.

One final semi off topic post is that in my research on the above figures I saw that City have only cracked 10k outside of derbies only six times in their history.
Not good. Hopefully Timmy turns things around for them.

Hopefully Timmy turns things around for them. Despite only cracking the 10k marker on six occasions, excluding derbies, you can still see an upward trajectory in their attendances from season to season. Melbourne City – – – – – 8,312 9,082 8,484 9,933 10,374 11,047

According to BOM places there should be little to no rain during the game. But if it rains like they are forecasting it will keep people at home unfortunately.
