What does the "old" north terrace have against other fans wanting to try their hand at active support?

If they are so disgruntled, why not just not come anymore? Or go sit and watch like the other 90% of supporters.

It is just making the club (and its fans) look like imbeciles.

He should take a leaf out of his own advice.

Shouting down fellow supporters is not supporting the team, it's supporting their own agendas (whether their agendas are valid or not is another matter).

Its just a bunch of stupid kids and socially inept adults whos personal lives are clearly so meaningless that they have to put down other people to feel relevent. They gave up their relevence when they quit.

Anyone done the Sydney away trip?

My knowledge of Sydney is pretty much zero. Is it worth staying near the ground? Is it easy to get to from the city? With the lock out laws, is it even worth going?

a few times, I thought the next game was in melbourne?

You can stay at surry hills and walk to the ground. Nice city, but night life is poor. At least some ok pubs around Surry hills. As an away trip, adelaide for mine is the best by far. The Sydney stadium is just too empty usually.

Yeah, next game is Etihad on Aus Day. Just planning ahead as that game could be the title decider.

Been to Adelaide away and loved it and aim to go again, but also wanted to do a Sydney trip. Hope that this game would get a decent crowd close to the end of the season and both teams being top of the table.

Maxi Beister. Thoughts? Looks to have a mean left peg and has won a couple of one on one duels, but has also fluffed many a ball and even his goal got absolutely nothing on it (with his right perhaps, can't remember).

At this stage we're over half way through the season and don't see him getting many minutes with Marco being on fire (injury update though?)  and FBK back in form. Muscy said in a presser last week that they were working him hard in training and maybe would ease off him in games, or something to that effect; was a strange comment and wasn't sure if it sounded good or bad for his progress in the team. Also said that he wouldn't be making changes to the detriment of the team just to get 'players' (Beister) minutes. Ingham seemingly ahead of him in the pecking order, and Austin was back in the squad last game.

Basically its (obviously) too hard to tell how he's going with lack of minutes, has any one seen or heard how he's been training? Some obvious pedigree there but you would have thought he'd have forced his way into some more minutes than he's getting by now. Would be a shame if we don't get to see any more of him, I wonder if we will try to bring him back for next season?

What i got from that presser was they had worked him hard in training and now they can ease off him in the training and that it would be a good time to give him a break (not being in squad for adelaide) so he should be fit for the rest of the season.  Essentially the rest you said is spot on in not giving him time just for the sake of who he is.  He will have to earn it, I'm sure with the busy period coming up and with rojas possibly injured he might get some time.

It's never worth it, deadset worst away trip in Australia. Adelaide and Sydney Away are like polar opposites. SFS is a dump and the view is terrible, there are miles of empty seats between you and the home fans so  there is no away day tension, the only people still doing Sydney are some of the worst Vucks in history and the nightlife was bad even before the lockout laws.

The only benefit to Sydney away is that it's easy to leave the next day as you can jump straight on the train from Central back to the airport.

I mean the more victory fans that can travel the better obviously. If you can go then do go.

It's just that if i had to pick an away trip to commit to for the season, I'd be putting Sydney and Brisbane last on my list.

Yeah, want to get back to Adelaide next season, and also want to do a Perth trip at some stage. Will do a WSW when they're at their new stadium.

Honestly, wouldn't be surprised to see him leave soon. He did do a few good things against the Wanderers away but there has to be a reason the other wingers get picked ahead of him every time, I'm not buying these fitness issues. How unfit could he have possibly been? It is hard to come in as a sub some times but literally the last 2 or 3 sub appearances he's given the ball away with every touch.

Yeah, it's quite odd. Surely he did a preseason. It's like he has got the Ian Baker-Finches. Another possible explanation is something I picked up on from looking at his Instagram.

Some musings of mine I've been having about Broxham for awhile I wanted to get out of my brain.

Has Mr Utility found his spot?

One of the greatest aspects of Leigh Broxham’s game has been his ability to fill in wherever you need him. Keep Emile Heskey in your back pocket playing CB? Check. Marshall the midfield and direct play in the absence of the team captain for most of a season? Check.

However, this could also be claimed as the reason why it was hard for him to hold down a starting spot. He was able to deputise, but was never a specialist.

I feel that’s changed.

Since Broxham has slotted in to the left back position, he’s made the position his own.

And he’s helped people further up the field claim back their spot.

This isn’t a slight on Georgievski either. The Mad Maco is a solid player and had a great game before succumbing to the collarbone injury that forced Bronx back to LB, but the deputy captain has just brought that bit more of defence stability to the backline. Yeah, he probably doesn’t offer as much in attack, but the backline is much more solid.

I feel this defensive solidity has helped Bozanic find some better form (though I still want him out of the marquee spot) as he doesn’t have to try and drop back and cover a fullback that’s bombed forward. On the occasion Bronx does get forward, his drive and reading of the play has enabled him to get back and cover himself.

This has allowed Bozanic to focus on play in the midfield and linking up with those in front of him. This, in turn, has allowed another player, FBK, focus on what was missing from their game. Attacking and creating play.

The players in front of Broxham are confident the fullback behind them is going to do their job and cover any attacks down that wing. They can focus on the role they need to play.

For me, I think it’s clear that left back is Broxham’s for the foreseeable future. Injury or drop in form would be the only reason to displace him.

And as a massive Broxham fan, seeing him in the starting 11 each week makes me a happy man.

You're basically asking your fellow Melbournians to talk up Sydney. You are only going to get the typical, chip on shoulder responses there buddy.

The SFS is in a great part of town and only a 5 minute walk away from some of the best urban areas in the country. Head north to oxford street to Indian Home Diner in Paddington to get the best damn Indian food outside of India (I lived in London for a year, trust me), or go back down Foveaux street towards Central Station to the Cricketers Arms. Sure, the lockout laws have taken their toll but the zone ends outside Surry Hills. Strawberry Hills hotel on Devonshire Street is a great pub and is open till like 6am or something ridiculous like that. As for the game, if both teams keep their form up there will be 25k+ at this game easy. Any crowd at the sfs beyong 15k has a decent atmosphere, better that any match i've witnessed at ethihad, though nowhere near as good as Aami Park. I would like to think this will be the game that will decide the premiership and there will be a large Victory contingent present. Have fun.

It's true, Sydney doesn't snort balls anywhere near as badly as it did ten years ago. It's actually possible to find a decent bar up there now, rather than wondering whether your mates are taking the piss out of you by talking about this 'great pub' they're taking you to that inevitably ended up being another fucking RSL.

So, big question for next season - with Deng more than likely to return from loan at PSV for next season, and Baro's contract up at the end of the season, what does the Vuck do with our defence? With three A-League quality centrebacks on the books (Ansell, Donachie and Deng), does the Vuck need to spend another visa spot in defence?

Ansell and Donachie are also off contract at season's end. Will just have to see how it plays out as either or both could end up going to another club/overseas.

TBH more interested in shifting Bozanic from the marquee position and offering all of the dollars to Troisi to stay.

Donachie continues to impress me, but Baro has been brilliant after his first few games. Never a MDP replacement, but he is very good.

I would be comfortable with Donachie and Ansell next season, both at a good age. Getting Deng back or retaining Baro would be a big bonus.

The problem will most likely be retaining Rojas and Troisi. Almost certain we'll sign a back up striker/winger - the type of player Beister is supposed to be apparently.
