@ mightroar
FFA are talking it up to 20-25k which is unlikely on a Friday night.
Ticket sales are trending towards 14k which seems more realistic. The Broich factor might encourage more people to attend or inspire a mini boycott but either way it'll only be +/- a couple of hundred.
Publicity for the game has need drowned out locally by the Broich story, you wouldn't know there's a game Friday night really

+x+x+x+x+x+x+x+x+x+xCahill was greatest for his ability to cut through to mainstream media... City grew from mid 9,000 members to over 13k members. If the City crowds were up I'd agree with you but they weren't. TV ratings are hardly better. Let's say a City membership costs $400 for arguments sake. The extra 4,000 members have brought in an extra $1.6m for the club. What's Timmy on a year, $3m wasn't it? Money would go to the club of course not FFA, so the FFA loses out on their investment really. City crowds were up mate... 15-16: AVE: 11,047 Non Derby AVE: 8,778 16-17: AVE: 10,573 Non Derby AVE: 9,396 up 600 people per game which equates to an 8% rise... Any other club an 8% rise is a great effort.... And how many millions were spent for that 8% rise. Look at it in relative terms. Those 800 people have cost the federation and families millions. But thanks Timmmeh Timmy only cost FFA $500k, Only< TV deal boosted Crowds stabilised, Memberships up Ratings up Bargain Sounds like everything is honky dory. I'm just waiting for the day the second tier is opened at AAMI outside of when the Vuck come to play. Maybe I'm a dreamer. I'm sure it'll happen, it's just going to take longer than people expected. City need a constant supply of big name Euro marquees to get it happening, for at least another 5 years. Just like when they had Villa. I think it was around 18k on a Sunday afternoon at AAMI against Newcastle Jets. Crowds died off when he left. Until they build a bigger supporter base they're going to have to bring in the big names. So we can come to a consensus that it did not work be it Villa or Cahill that once the player leaves, as do the crowds and that marquee player, whilst having an initial impact are to shallow to maintain sustained growth. Gotcha. I honestly don't reckon they're gonna build a following unless it happens. The old story - no point of difference to Victory. A good solid 4-5 years of marquees, time to build on a younger supporter base, build a solid squad and hopefully by that time there's a decent following.

I tend to agree. But 20k on a Friday night, with a late kick off? and Roar draw a fair few people with a 90 minute travel time to/from matches so with the possibility of extra time/penalties pushing a finish time to as late as 11PM a lot will be motivated to watch at home. Personally I can't agrue with a Friday schedule but Saturday as 6 would be 20k, Friday less ..

With a 750 game, there should be no excuses. All local league games have been cancelled. ET and a late finish shouldnt be a limiting factor. Its a final and broich's send off, 20k should be expected.

Ticket sales at Roar are tracking towards a lot bigger than 14k. Most of the platinum section is sold out already.

Agree with you - no matter what time you pick people complain. 6PM Saturday seems the least whinging time slot lol
Heart>City
I wouldn't be going on Ticketek websites status. They block out large sections for stadium members who rarely show up on mass (the 4 big blocks opposite the TV cameras at the halfway line are mainly for stadium members and will be blocked out for sale, but will be largely empty on Friday night) and the Den is blocked out for this game unless you have ffa approval to buy a ticket there lol. Ticket sales late yesterday were 7k and they normally say double the total sales the night before a game to get your figure - so tracking over 14k which may get a lift from wanderers fans flying in and maybe stadium members. I'd hope for 17-18k but tracking below that at the moment.

Marco Monteverde in his story due tomorrow in the couriermail said a crowd of up to 25k expected, lets hope it's close to that figure.

Don't really want to give FFA any money. They have been atrocious - no sense, no vision, no decision making. Absolutely nothing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We'll be cheering Broich from the couch.

So we can come to a consensus that it did not work be it Villa or Cahill that once the player leaves, as do the crowds and that marquee player, whilst having an initial impact are to shallow to maintain sustained growth. Gotcha. I think it is more complex than that. Clubs will rarely start with a huge loyal supporter base. This is developed over years sometimes decades. Marquees give clubs a massive presence in the media. The article in the Guardian explains this using Sydney as an example in the post-ADP years stating that crowds remained up. However, these crowds can be fragile in there earliest stages. Often suppressed by external aspects- other codes, weather... Ultimatly, Marquees along with community engagement, increased marketing will almost certainly improve your crowds gradually just depends on the landscape how this takes place. https://www.theguardian.com/football/2017/mar/13/sydney-fcs-underwhelming-crowds-should-be-cause-for-alarm

It's higher than the Roar's home average for the season so you have to count that as a win.

True, I actually think the later kick hurt the family's that normally come out, but in the end you will never please everyone with the time schedule. We left the ground around 11 pm, did not get home until 12 ish.

The FFA said they're were expecting "up to 25k" which is farcical - 20k was a stretch but they set themselves up for failure. Typical.

Always about the cash with the FFA, our quarter finals have never really hit that high if I remember correctly? I think even against Victory in the past we only hit just over 20k.

Don't get me wrong there were a lot of kids and families there but some do not want to travel that late at night and coming back on the train home there is always idiots to deal with.

Broncos kickoff same time 7:50pm. In saying that, forty minute halves and everybody is out of the stadium by 9:30 barring golden point. We went straight home from the game last night and got home at midnight. In regards to that being the lowest finals attendance we have ever had, the time may have been a small factor but I saw a lot of resentment to the club during the week on social media given the Broich situation, I believe that took some numbers out. Also the pricing was the dearest for a quarter final we have seen. Also FFA blocking purchasing seats in the Den last night was farcical. We ended up having less numbers in the 3 den bays than a regular season game. I was hoping for 20k so wasn't a terrible crowd but not a great look for FFA.

Last night, Port played Carlton at 7:20 in what was apparently a shocking spectacle (and no doubt full of racist bogan families) but even that drew 43 000+, in a pissant town like Adelaide.
The "late start" or "geez it was a Friday night" excuses are just stupid. We get what we get cos that reflects the size of our fan base.
Roar fans have generally been pretty good. Def better than what happens in Sydneythehomeoffootball.
