AS I said from what I read, they have two major councils behind them and a number of big local clubs, a training ground and facility is proposed by one of the councils... its an area where Football is popular ... people are saying in many ways somewhat similar to Western Sydney.

To me thats sounds very good but I am not from Melbourne and its difficult to determine if the South Melbourne bid is better ... both appear very strong ..

They are both strong - which is why I hope that a second division is created. One of them will miss out.

The name is definitely a challenge. Can't call it Dandenong, Casey or Monash as it would only represent one council. South East Melbourne sounds like shit. Maybe something like 'Eastern United FC'. Even that doesn't sound too good but it's better than the others.

Casey & Dandenong i think its fine.... kinda like the football team in England Dagenham and Redbridge.
It would definitely be unique and no one would fill unloved

If they go ahead with this it will be the biggest crime committed against the game since Soccer Australia.

I've suggested in the past utilising DC as abbreviated for Dandenong Casey.
I don't mind even something unique like DC & Districts FC.

While South Melbourne have a viable bid that's ready to go.
I think South East Melb has the better upside to grow the game, appease FoxSport and Melb city and get a major leg up on the afl in the region.

Let me fill you in then SMFC is probably ahead of this bid as they are ready to go. Dandenong only lacking Capital and Stadium so they are further down the track.
Now I will tell you this, something you won't read in the papers, there are four bids well ahead of all the ones you know of.
Three are from serious Chinese investors where $20Mil is nothing to them and the fourth and let me be the first to say it in public RED BULL is on the table and ready to go.

Like wow ...

There is a reason for all this BTW Football in Australia is about to experience a major bump IMO. Trend lines and various business models are all indicating this.

I been saying this for about the last four months in three years we will look back at today and smile.

We still have a lot of very serious issues to get through, governance being the primary one.

IMO within six months we will have a massive peace pipe type event, all major stakeholders will set a path forward to follow.

My biggest fear is Steven Lowy hangs around too long ... he needs to go .. I can live with Gallop he is a task oriented person that carries out what his board tell him to do... he also needs to go but its not critical whereas I think Lowy is IMO..

I really hope this bid gets up but it has a long way to go.

This is where actual criteria is needed rather than just the FFAs feeling.

A stadium is also a long way off. Government funding will be hard to get for a stadium outside of the city center. Ask the AFL about Waverly.  That's means any funding will almost have to be private and the councils. How will the two other councils feel about funding a stadium for the third.

Would there be a way for this bid to get a team into the NPL. Even if they start by getting a bunch of talented 16 year old from the 6 clubs, if their still involved, and when they make it to senior aged players maybe they can form the backbone of a very young list in the NPL 2 or something.  But then how will clubs feel about giving away talented youngsters, where will they play? Etc

I hope something happebs but they have a very uphill battle.

What my concern is that Expansion by and in itself will not solve the problems of Football.
The theory of creating new entities in and by itself for expansion is not a solution and is cost heavy.
We do need a second division, the reason for reluctance is the Australian Sporting Landscape has worked on EQUALISATION by REGULATION for so long that they think having low cost smaller clubs won't work. Its just too hard for guys like Gallop to comprehend.

These issues also affect Player Development as evidenced over the last 15 years. And as stated by our National Coach.

What ever happens Expansion, a Second Division and or both the KEY motivation should be the marriage of Status (A-League and Second Division) with Facilities.

Bringing in South Melbourne with a position further secures its facility for Football. The entrance of a Dandenong side by all indications will be supported by facilities development solely for Football this is a key proposition.
As with bids from Perth, Adelaide, Melbourne/Victoria, Tasmania, Canberra, Sydney/NSW and Brisbane/Queensland ALL bids should have at their core the development or acquisition of Football Specific Stadia and Facilities.

Marrying Football Specific Facilities with Status in A-League, a second division and Promotion/Relegation is a no brainer in football development terms, player development terms, National footprint terms, infrastructure terms for capacity and engagement with the Football Playing Community

Otherwise the game and the competition without Football Specific Stadia/Facilities is doomed to failure.

BOOM!!!!!!

(By the way on a side note State Government and Councils are setting aside funds and facilities for AFLW Clubs that by the way don't even exist yet!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is the battle ground.)

Better yet, get midfielder to point you to Google so you can search "a league" which will get a gazillion hits, which proves how popular we are, which proves how much money we're about to fall into, which proves expansion everywhere will be a success.

Arthur you are close to right, but a little more is needed.... A major bump is coming..

We need a 16 team competition ... from this the second division will develop quickly and  from this so will in time P & R.

I also believe happy days are approaching, however the next six months will be very messy, ugly, maybe even depressing to many ...

For all FFA ills, which are many recently,  and mostly but not entirely self inflicted within six months a peace pipe gathering of sorts will take place ... and with new governance procedures  in place and various stakeholders having been involved in the design I believe will jump into the third phase since hal started... phase 1 set, phase 2 stabilise and make mainstream, phase 3 expansion and growth...

Have faith in the game and the many involved in it .
