Bit harsh on Troisi - almost won it for us a few times last night. A few inches left or right and he'd be a matchwinning hero. Might not be worth marquee status but definitely worth a hefty chunk in the cap imo.

I truly hope Rojas re-captures form next season too.

Didn't seem to be at his peak ever since he went off to play for the All Whites.

Don't know how I feel about Troisi, perhaps because we have been blessed with such good playmakers from Fred, King Carlos and Finkler that he just not that kind of player. Would keep but it depends on what the cap is doing next year as to whether we fit him under or not.

Anyway, pretty proud of our season. It took the Best Team of All Time* to beat us in penalties in the GF and although it was what 17 pts from 1st to 2nd, we really tailed off at the end and I think, if memory serves, only a few key losses (Carney's handball, the Aus day loss and the abysmal Wellington game before that) that could have made a bigger difference down the stretch.

Having said that, that's football for ya and don't want to take anything away from Sydney, thoroughly deserved winners.
*best team of all time debates elsewhere. At the very least they're one of the best.

Troisi is the most frustrating player to watch. Some of his leadup play is absolutely gorgeous but his shooting is abysmal.

There is no way we should be making Troisi a marquee,  it would be just a accounting marquee imo, he had a decent spell for a few months, but nothing near marquee status.
I hope mvfc play hardball and go for an under the cap offer, as there are much better players in better league's who we could get.

He will be offered marquee next season and I will tell you why. Victory give marquee spots to players who are proven in this league (Berisha and Milligan for example). We don't bring in players from overseas and offer them marquee spots, even if they have proven themselves in bigger leagues. The ALeague is unique and doesn't suit everyone. This philosophy has has proven to be a winning one over the years.

Yeah, I get that Troisi is frustrating but that's the type of player he is. Problem since Bozanic left is that he's receiving the ball in the areas he's dangerous in les and less.

I love Broxh but he's simply not the player that will be able to distribute the ball incisively to a player like Troisi. As the season dragged on Troisi had to start coming deeper and deeper to pick up the ball, and this effected his distribution to Rojas in particular who suffered.

It wasn't Bozanic's strong point either, but he certainly did that part better than Broxh (but they're both no Millsy).

Troisi really transformed the way we played this year, it was fun to see such an exciting and mobile front four moving around the place. We had become so very stati with FInkler at #10, and the extra mobility was a big reason why we were in the GF at all.

no doubt our number 1 target needs to be obtaining a legitimate box to box midfielder. If we can't get Milligan back (unlikely) then perhaps we need to take advantage of the guest marquee spot for that position.

Rumor is that it's almost certain that the guest marquee spot will be dropped for next season. The FFA will say that they need to drop the fund in order to help meet the demands of the clubs in relation to their share of the TV rights money.

With the seemingly average depth in the squad at the moment there could be potentially quite a few positions to be filled over the next 6 months. As it stands, we need a someone who can play left back to replace Georgievski, we need a proper mid-fielder to replace Bozanic, if Baro leaves (seems likely) we will need another central defender, we need a replacement for Khalfallah although I reckon they will take the gamble and will be starting with Ingham next season, and if Troisi leaves he will need to be replaced. With only one marquee spot available it could be a very interesting off-season.

So if Baro goes along with FBK and Georgie, this is what we're left with, without signing anyone yet.

Thomas
Geria - Ansell - Donachie - Broxham
Mahazi - Valeri
Troisi
Rojas - Berisha - Ingham

Acton/Bray/Spinella, Nigro, Austin, Howard, Theoharis

* Rumours are Austin will also leave
* Leaves us needing a left winger, another centre midfielder, a left back and a centre back the minimum. Deng coming back potentially could help.

4 Visa spots there if Berisha gets his citizenship.

Club would be downright negligent if they don't entice an Asian player to the club, especially with ACL confirmed.

Any weight in the Rhys Williams rumours?

He was a man of specific quirks. He believed that all meals should be earned through physical effort. He also contended, zealously like a drunk with a political point, that the third dimension would not be possible if it werent for the existence of water.

He was a risky signing as he had a history of being a lazy karnt.

Seems that didn't change when he got here.

Oh well still got his autograph haha.

we finished the season with a squad of 18. we let 3 players go during the season and never replaced them. Its a bad habit the club has got itself in to in recent years. We're lucky we had minimal injuries or else we would have had to rely in youth squad players.

hearing rumours Baro is leaving which I find surprising. But with Rhys Williams most likely coming in next year, we might not need to use a visa spot for a CB. with likely 3 visa spots available and a marque spot, we're in a reasonable position to improve our squad. We just need Trimmers to weave his magic again.

Best case would be something like:

Thomas
Geria - Baro - Donachie - New LB
Valeri
Troisi - New MID
Rojas - Berisha - New LW

GK, Rhys Williams, Broxham, Deng, New Striker

3 of the new players could be Visa players if we keep Baro, one being an Asian so we could take him into the ACL

Wishful thinking I know.

Our culture of stability and not making rash decisions/ hasty changes is excellent for the most part. Unfortunately as you have said it does have its downsides.

So is there actually any more to the Rhys Williams rumors? From memory there wasn't much to them. Is he even the type of character that we want at the club? Willing to give the benefit of the doubt but from the outer, his behaviour at Perth this year doesn't sound great.

MELBOURNE Victory midfielder Rashid Mahazi will sensationally quit the game indefinitely for personal reasons.

Mahazi, who was on the bench during Sunday’s grand final loss to Sydney FC, will travel to the country of his father’s birth, Kenya, with family in December.

It’s understood Mahazi, 25, had interest from at least two other A-League clubs. Victory was interested in retaining the tidy midfielder, who played 13 games this season taking his A-League tally to 73 in four years.

Mahazi’s family is from the Kenyan island of Lamu and it’s believed that he will travel there with his dad’s family.

The Herald Sun can also reveal Mahazi was due to come on for Carl Valeri in the final, but was affected by a migraine just after kick-off.

Valeri, who tweaked his calf late in the first half, played out the entire 120 minutes.

Victory is set to confirm utility Rhys Williams as their latest signing this week after a turbulent year at Perth Glory, as the former Middlesbrough captain looks to stay in the Socceroos frame.

There has been further clarity given about James Donachie’s contractual situation, with the central defender to remain at Victory for at least one more season.

Donachie signed a two-year contract last year, but it was inadvertently stated by the club at the time that the former Brisbane Roar star had come on a 12-month deal.

Fellow stoppers Nick Ansell and Alan Baro are out of contract, however, with Ansell likely to depart after five years at the club.

source

Sounds like the death of Rashid's father may have had more of an impact on him than we ever thought - sad news to see him giving the game away, but I hope he finds whatever it is he is looking for back in Kenya. Best of wishes to the lad who always gave his best for the club.

Also interesting to note that Ansell appears good as gone - with Williams inbound as well as Deng returning, you don't really need 4 specialist CB's, do you? Add Broxham in as a capable backup and one was always going to move on. Just feel like Ansell never fulfilled his potential, hopefully he can pick up a gig at another A-League club (I hear Adelaide are hiring...)

Yepp, heard about Mahazi a few weeks back from my sister who went to school with him, so not something that would come as a shock to the club.  I actually think he was a  good back up and never deserved the amount of stick he got.

Probably one of the reasons why the club went hard for Williams, to help plug a hole that Mahazi's absence would create.

Ansell going and hopefully we retain Baro and Deng coming back, that'd be a pretty good backline with Donachie and Williams in the mix also.

So going off all that here's what we're left with. Note that Matt Acton's contract was only injury replacement for Bray. I've put all players in their natural positions. Only included players with senior contracts.

GK: Thomas, Bray, Spinella
LB: -
CB: Baro, Donachie, Williams, Deng
RB: Geria

CDM: Valeri, Broxham, Nigro
CAM: Troisi

LW: Austin, Theoharous
RW: Rojas, Ingham
ST: Berisha, Howard

Need cover across all areas, need to beef up our full backs, wingers and strikers.
