Lol you know my dislike of him well. We already have one donkey in Holman taking shots from range who has more goals.

LOL I agree, I think Troisi is the most overrated player to pull on boots in the last few years.
I was just checking here to see if the announcement about Scott McDonald had been made yet?

If we are getting a local visa player,it would have to be one of...FBK,Cirio,Holosko,Marinkovic,Norstrand or Dimas.Of the aussies, apart from youth players Austin ,Hoole and Troisi are about as good as it gets.

@ lolitsbigmic

Agree on FBK, I think he's got another good year in him and Victory probably let him go a year too soon. Would be an upgrade on Borrello as well - of all the available local players I'd say khalfalla is the most likely signing and the best fit for Roar.

Translation (thanks to the good folk at The Roar Review):

From Down Under to the Betzenberg:

The Australian Brandon Borrello changes to 1. FC Kaiserslautern. The 21-year-old striker, who comes from the Australian first division Brisbane Roar to the Palatinate, receives a contract with the Red Devils until June 30, 2020.

In 71 appearances in the Australian A-League, Brandon Borrello scored 13 times and also scored four goals. In addition, there are eleven appearances in the AFC Champions League, the counterpart to the European Champions League, where the attacker scored two goals and contributed four goal scorers. Even more powerful were the assignments of the current Australian U23 national team in the qualification for the AFC Champions League: five goals in two games are available here.

"With Brandon Borello, we were able to inspire a young, highly-talented striker who, despite his young age, has already won numerous assignments in the highest Australian league and has been able to gain experience in the national teams of his country since the U20. We are convinced that he will enrich our offensive play with his speed and his physique, "said FCK Sport Director Uwe Stöver on this transfer.

The Australian newcomer is looking forward to his change to the Palatinate: "I am very happy to be part of such a big club as the FCK in the future. I already know that the club has a lot of tradition and very passionate fans. I look forward to getting to know the club, the people and the country. I would like to integrate as quickly as possible and will give everything on the pitch to make the fans proud. "

I would hope that was 13 goals in 4 seasons, which about sums his potency up. If there's an area that needs improving upon it's that - he neither scored or created enough chances to truly stand out but if he can develop that aspect of his game in Germany we will see him in the Socceroos soon.

Khalfalla is the replacement for Borrello and an upgrade too, at least for one season - Like Broich he's good enough/fit enough to go for one more season to 37 so we may see him at Roar fir two more seasons but that will depend on fitness more than form. Where Khalfalla differed from Borrello is in his defensive work, Borrello was a beast in that area and Roar will miss that more than his forward play I think.

looked at borellos goal scoring highlights

he deadset looks world class in a highlights package!

but then he doesn't score that often (often enough but he hasn't dominated)

he doesn't seem to get many easy goals to beef up his goal scoring tally. I wonder why...

If he isn't getting easy goals he might be weak with his off the ball movement. That can be taught. He is already good defensively and can do hard things. If he can learn to do the simple things he might have a very high ceiling

I agree that his movement can definitely improve, and I think his decision making with the ball is still on the up, you have to keep in mind that JA set up the team for Maclaren to score. I still think he has the skill set to be a CF tbh.

Excited about FBK despite his age. Disappointed about Borello going. Not care so much for McClaren.

We've gone backwards though.

Losing Broich who is irreplaceable means we've gone backwards, equally had they have kept him for next season we would have gone backwards anyway. Time has caught him up.

It's our most crucial close season since Ange took over. FBK is an excellent start and a better player than borrello. No 9 is key and Kingsman was quoted as saying they would try and get all the transfer business done by June 15th Di hopefully we have some good news coming up.

our biggest weaknesses are goal scoring wingers and fullbacks

our fullbacks are strong enough for a league level but they are unlikely to win a championship without serious improvement

oar and fbk will give you plenty of assists but not many goals i think

D'agostino I'm optimistic he could be as good as maclaren

I don't see an issue with brown/Hingert but take your point - they're as good as it gets in a capped league. Hingert wasn't as consistent as last season and it will be interesting to see if brown keeps his improvement up.

Wingers not scoring is an issue, as was Maccers not creating chances for them but at Jesse he did his job - it's hard to argue with 2x20 goals.

This has to be JAs year, unfortunately he's got ACL getting in the way again.

We have usually been one of the best teams defensively.  Our problem has been that not since Nichols left have we had anyone chip in with 6-8 goals (beyond the leading striker).  Makes it hard in pressure games when the opposition really only needs to shut down one player.

Fully agree with that, the closest to 6-8 goals a season came from Ricky but he wasn't a starting regular. Next years a big year for Holman - under pressure to justify his marquee status he is capable of 8-10 goals a season

when we dominated the league we would have 3 players who could score regularly (e.g. nichols, berisha and henriques) and usually 3 regular sources of assists

I think the standards have lifted and you need four of each these days

thats means you need at least a few players capable of regular goals and assists

e.g. your ninkovic's, rojas, castro, troisi sort of player

kruse fits the bill if we can get him
it'd be nice to have a couple such players
