Start of day 6: We have 6,026 likes, 6,049 follows but we need to continue our work in expanding the page and sharing our talent worldwide.

More importantly: 407 people saw the Newcastle/Weston game through the page. This needs to increase and with every like is another chance to extend that reach. This is why sharing is crucial.

Friendly livestream cancelled

NEWCASTLE Jets have been forced to cancel a livestream of the friendly against Broadmeadow Magic on Wednesday night due to Football Federation Australia’s exclusive broadcast deal with Fox Sports.
More than 15,000 viewers tuned in to the BarTV Sports coverage of the Jets’ 2-0 win over Weston last Tuesday.

The Jets have livestreamed pre-season games for a number of years but have been told by the governing body that the practice is not permitted under the A-League participation agreement.
“The livestream was great for us and great for Weston,” Jets chief executive Lawrie McKinna said. “It’s unfortunate, but we have been told we can’t livestream any more games. Hopefully that encourages more people to get to Magic Park.”
In a further disruption, the Jets have also abandoned the trial against Hamilton Olympic on Wednesday, August 2, due to the lighting at Darling Street Oval not meeting FFA match-sanction standards.

So instead of 15k tuning in to see the Jets future talent, sponsors and everything the Jets there will be none.

That really makes sense. Good move FFA. That should sure up the Jets vote and get the community behind you.

Instagram says about 21 percent of its users are soccer fans.

Instagrammers love soccer.

That might be because soccer players love Instagram. Or because soccer is a global sport. Or because soccer is played year-round.

But whatever the reason, soccer is the most popular sport on Instagram by a wide margin, according to Brandon Gayle, Instagram’s head of sports partnerships. Gayle says that 146 million of Instagram’s 700 million-plus users are “world football fans,” more than three times the number of basketball fans on Instagram.

Here’s a look at the five most popular sports on the service.

Instagram, owned by Facebook, defines “fan” rather loosely. If you follow an account from a team or player or news outlet that Instagram considers to be soccer-specific, you are then a fan.

But knowing which sports are most popular on Instagram might actually be useful for those following Facebook’s business. That’s because the most popular sports on Instagram are likely some of the most popular sports on Facebook, too.

And Facebook is trying to get into live sports streaming, an industry that has been a major part of the traditional TV business and is just starting to move into the digital realm thanks to interest from other tech companies like Twitter and Amazon.

Facebook has streamed a handful of live sports in the past — including Major League Baseball games and one-off NBA matchups in international markets — but none of those streams have made significant waves. Facebook’s most recent streaming deal, though, might make mores sense: A deal with Fox to stream more than a dozen Champions League soccer matches.

Instagram won’t stream these matches, and Gayle says Instagram has “no plans” to get into live sports streaming itself. But Facebook will eventually need to prove to advertisers that it can deliver live sports just like TV.

Perhaps soccer can help.

That instantgram article I assume is from the US but I assume it would be the same or similar in Australia.

Did a tax return for a client on Saturday who's firm is a minor sponsor of both the Swans and the Great Waste of Space.... and they get to talk to the officials and management teams of both teams.

She told me, that the AFL are exploring a number of options to expand their revenue base... as they believe they got the last big FTA money media deal and are expecting a significant fall in media revenue at the next media deal...

No idea what size of cut they are talking about and neither did the client all she said was the expectation from the AFL is for FTA media revenue to fall... and they had to make it up..

If Football is the driver on facebook and instrangram ... this area as many have been posting for quite some time is the future of media revenue...

Changing times ahead but very good pick up on that article.

Also adds to the importance of the work being done by TheSelectFew ...

No Scottish Premiership TV deal in USA means games will be available only via club websites

With the 2017/18 Scottish Premiership season scheduled to kick off on August 5, Scotland’s top-flight soccer league looks destined to miss out on television in the United States and only be available via streaming through paid subscriptions to each club website instead.

In previous years, a few of the Scottish Premiership games were available each week on FOX Soccer 2GO as well as being televised in the morning hours on FOX Soccer Plus. The broadcasts were supplemented by FS1 and FS2 televising the Old Firm Derby between Celtic and Rangers.

However, as of press time, FOX Sports has no plans to broadcast the Scottish Premiership to soccer fans in the United States.

The main reason why TV broadcasters in the United States are reluctant is because the majority of clubs in the league have now set up streaming packages on their websites to cater to supporters outside the UK and Ireland. For example, Rangers TV is charging $299 for access to every match during the season in addition to exclusive interviews and behind-the-scenes programming. Celtic TV, as a comparison, is charging $196 for their similar service.

SEE MORE: Schedule of Scottish Premiership matches on US streaming

Not every club in the Scottish Premiership is offering a streaming subscription, but as of press time, many of the other top clubs in Scotland had the streaming service in place such as Aberdeen, Hibernian and Hearts.

While the cost of subscribing to your club’s streaming package is more expensive, it will provide soccer fans with more coverage of specific Scottish Premiership clubs than ever before similar to what iFollow promises to supporters of Football League clubs.

It’s possible that a TV broadcaster in the United States could still acquire the rights to the Scottish Premiership at the last minute before the season begins, but with almost every match being made available directly via the clubs, the league is no longer as attractive of a proposition.

The most-recent Old Firm Derby in the Scottish Premiership had a viewing audience of 73,000 for the March 12 match, which was televised live on FS1.

World Soccer Talk reached out to the Scottish Premiership for comment, but they did not respond.

Why don't they stream it on FB and get more viewers. Scottish football is hardly an easy sell.

Everton Celebrate A Facebook Live First

Mon 7th Aug 2017 | Fan Engagement

Everton Football Club streamed a first-team game on Facebook Live for the first time ever yesterday as Ronald Koeman's side drew with Spanish giants Sevilla 2-2 in their final pre-season friendly of the summer.

The live match was made available via the official Everton Facebook page giving the stream an estimated reach of 3.4m and was watched by over 1.5m football fans from around the world.

Supporters who tuned in were able to interact with commentary team Darren Griffiths and former Everton midfielder and now Club Ambassador Ian Snodin throughout the game. As well as commentating on the match, the duo read out Facebook Live posts on air as fans passed their own comments and reaction to the live stream.

Viewers tuning into Facebook got a chance to see the Blues wear a special commemorative kit to celebrate 125 years of Goodison Park. The enhanced exposure ensured more supporters were able to see the first-team players wearing the one-off kit which is available to pre-order online.

The stream attracted viewers from all over the world with the bulk of supporters watching in the UK. Foreign Blues were not deterred by the time difference with fans in Thailand, USA, Spain and Singapore  making up the top 5 countries where fans logged in to watch.

I think as far a second division is concerned I would be happy for either of them to pick up 1 game per round once it is established.

Imo Foxtel would demand too high a quality. They would want to control all the content on their fb page.

SBS on the other hand seem like they may be more open to sharing/streaming games that they aren't in control of. As your fb page does.

So I guess if SBS streamed 3 matches per round they have access to 1.8 million views.
