What an interesting team, whoever called us playing Chelsea's system looks to be right.

JURMAN!!!! It looks a more genetic 3-4-3 or even as someone said the 5-2-3 type. Definitely more width in that team than usual

Syria is hot on the counter. I doubt those wing backs are going to be tracking back fast enough to make this work

OK Leckie and Kruse are hitting the target but they're not the type to score that many from outside the box. Jurman and Risdon are such unlikely starters. Big call from Ange and I think it'll pay dividends. Jurman to head one in. Milligan and Mooy should be very strong.

Not happy with the persistence with the back three, and Risdon is a baffling choice but at least Leckie and Kruse can stay forward on the wings this time. Honestly don't know what to expect of this, especially since it's an away game in Malaysia. Since Behich and Risdon are natural defenders and not wingers, I'm hoping we can see a switch to a back five at various points throughout the game to shore up the backlines. Otherwise, we're in for another one of those clenching nights again...

Yeah with Kruse and Leckie I can see them wider and looking at the defensive fullbacks Im really thinking more of a traditional 3-4-3 with width coming from Leckie and Kruse.

playing 6 defenders if you include milligan, makes sense, a draw away from home and thats the tie virtually sewn up

But would not be surprised if Rogic is unused this match and saving him for a shock&awe home leg

Wow, Risdon as a winger???? He might get forward, but will struggle to get back. Here's hoping Milligan plays deep. But, looking at the cattle on the park, it says to me it's almost 4 ATB, maybe 5.

Certainly Kruse and Leckie will be playing off Juric as strikers more like their club roles.
Does this mean a lot of counter long play?
Very wide as others have said.

Gabriel Somi on the bench. He's in Sweden and the Europa League. A classy left back who got his papers sorted at the last minute. Expect him to come on to settle things at some point.

+x+x+x+x+x+x+x+x+xI have a theory why Ange has picked Goodwin, ruka. He's going to play his traditional 5-4-1( or however you want to put it) with a bit of a twist. I think he will deploy a style similar to Chelsea, 5-2-3. The five at the back will be the 3 CB's plus the 2 wing backs. Then he will play two holding midfielders in the middle. Then he will play a front three with two wide guys instead of two narrow no 10's if you like. It will still allow lecks and smith to be the WB and Goodwin and kruse the wingers. So my side looks like this. Ryan Milligan Sainsbury JurmanLeckie Smith Luongo MooyKruse Juric GoodwinThoughts? would like an excuse to get leckie forward. Could you explain more about the chelsea system? before our lack of fullbacks and goal scoring wingers required a voodoo formation without either really now we have goal scoring wingers and no fullbacks (except gersbach when fit) it would be nice to have a formation that voids the need for traditional fullbacks but has wingers Does chelsea's system achieve this? The wingbacks in the Chelsea system which would actually benefit us is they are purely engines who just run up and down the pitch. But further up the pitch they also have inside forwards like Hazard who look to get behind the defence and are a constant goal threat, that'd perfectly suit someone like Leckie. However there is no way Ange would ever utilise a system which by nature doesn't control the match, it is a typical Italian formation where they soak up the pressure and kill you on the counter attack. That's rather what I've been driving at. Or 4-2-3-1 and fairly flat back four. But what you describe, I think, best plays to Australia's current strengths and minimises risks from our weaknesses. What irritates me is that too often we play a style of football which I think does the exact opposite. To be fair i don't think we actually have a good enough holding mid and box to box midfielder for the Chelsea formation either, Jedinak isn't good enough on the ball to start a counter attack although he would protect the defence and Mooy would be next to useless in the system as well. defensively our holding mids are in formidable form for their clubs luogno generates 6 turnovers a game and mooy 5. A good player will get 4 turnovers a game so they are doing well however they both are slow over the 5m which means defensively we have a tactical weakness (which got exploited at the confeds) Luongo would be a good box to box for it but i see Mooy struggling majorly, there is a major difference in winning the ball in a team which presses high compared to a team which is camped in their half and have far more defensive duties. But ultimately we'd weaken where we are strongest at. The fuck you on about? Have you seen huddersfield play? Have u see how much ground Mooy covers? How much pressing wagner expects from his team? Sometimes reading this forum is hilarious.. What are YOU on about? Have you seen them play? Have you seen the NT play? Mooy is seriously overrated defensively. I mean he's pretty good, but nothing special at all. In fact his influence in that position is insanely overrated especially by huddersfield fans and for the NT he's gone from being a match winner almost every game to being a waste of space since changing positions. I'd much rather Milligan, with Mooy probably on par with Luongo. Mooy is just wasted there. He is a number 10. He's neither a Defensive mid or a number 10 - he is a classic number 8. The regista, Xavi/ pirlo/ Scholes middle of the pitch player whose job it is to retain possession and dictate tempo... and he's damn good at it. Why does everyone keep saying he is a number 10 it shits me. Rogic and troisi are 10's, the latter can also play winger.
