+x+x+x+xIts good our boys are getting to play higher quality opposition and it will expose them on there flaws but it seems to be this group doesn't have the quality to make it to the world cup at this stage. No one appears to stand out, maybe Pasquali? not much else, but still time for next year though, need to keep on improving. isnt caletti, mcgree and lachlan brook in this group? i suppose folami is too There has been zero FFA reporting of the tournament or results. The team has not been announced so it is hard to know who is in the side. I think Caletti and McGree would be too old. - Don't know the other players. Maybe we could blame the closing of the AIS and our lack of finishing. The coach is next, then our formation and tactics. Then the weather, then its "we controlled the game and dominated but just could not get the result. Like i said, and i really do want them to win, it is disappointing. It was last year and the year before that. We have to build a winning mentality. For someone who doesn't know the squad or the context of the tournament you're quite quick to jump to conclusions the results of 4 games and not one win are facts and therefore the basis of the conclusion.

Fine let's just ignore the rest of the world then and still tell ourselves that we are developing at youth level.

I don't think we are telling ourselves that, I think it's more a case where it is completely out of control. FFA is listening to the likes of people whom I won't name.

The only one I have recognised is the kid from Victory, Theoharus.

Agree alot has been said about development and playing a certain way sometimes you need a balance between both, the u16s you can leverage around it but from the u20s and olyroos we want them to get results and the style would be intact anyway.

Lots of lads from A-League clubs there, and most are around the age of 17. Can't take too much away from these results then, especially since we've got no info of how old the other teams were in comparison to us. Shepparton will be the best marker for us in a while, since we get to see them play here in Australia instead of the Asian saunas. Some notable omissions from this current squad that should hopefully be able to come to Shepparton: > Sebastian Pasquali (attacking mid, Ajax) > Dylan Ryan (central defender, Willem II) > Con Ouzounidis (central defender, Everton) > Ben Folami (striker, Ipswich Town) > John Iredale (striker, Heerenveen) > Riley McGree (central midfielder, Club Brugge) > Tyrese Francois (winger, Fulham) > Lachlan Brook (winger, Adelaide United) > Liam Driscoll (goalkeeper, Reading) > Joel Rollinson (winger, Reading) > Joe Caletti (midfielder, Brisbane Roar) > John Roberts (striker, Melbourne City) That would give us a team something like this: GK: Delianov/Driscoll RB: Pierias CB: Ryan CB: Ouzounidis LB: ??? CM: McGree CM: Caletti AM: Pasquali LW: Brook RW: Francois ST: Folami/Iredale Then there's Genreau (CM), Atkinson (CM), Tokich (CM), Theohaurus (LW), Rollinson (RW), Roberts (ST), and anyone else currently in the U20 squad to come off the bench. And because of the home advantage and the fact our opponents are minnows (Northern Mariana Islands should be a cricket score), we'll have plenty of room to experiment in these games. I'm interested to see how it turns out.

Brook plays #10 so doubt he's coming if Pasquali is (which is the word). also doubt too many changes given squad for AFC must be finalised in 2/3 weeks. only changes i imagine alongside Sebastian is Roberts, who has proven he can score and possibly Con (was called to trial) or Ryan given we did concede the most at the 4 nations.

Ah yes my mistake, Caletti and McGree are ineligible by several months (McGree by two months and Caletti by three). I guess a midfield of Pasquali-Genreau-Atkinson/Tokich will happen, they seem to be the highest rated young midfielders that are eligible. I'll be curious how they go.

There is a rumour(un-confirmed) going around from Ray Gatt the AFC u-19 tournament matches happening in Victoria is going to be moved to another country due to the Australian Govt. not allowing the North Korea team inside the country, some sort of Visa issue.
When did our govt. turn into a Trump state....what a shame for our lads not being able to play in front of our own backyard and now they have to travel to Asia again in those tough conditions.

I did hear that the NK team might not have been coming but didn't know is our gov not allowing them. I hope its not true as it would be nice for our boys not having to travel for once. Sad if true what possible harm could a bunch of 19 year old do?

That better not be true. I was excited to see how our team would do when they're playing at home in familiar territory and with us able to watch them closer. We let in the senior North Korean team for the Asian Cup just a couple of years ago. What harm are a bunch of 17/18 North Korean kids going to do? That's just paranoia and pettiness from the Victorian Government (or wherever this push to stop them entering has come from) if they can't let them, and it will hurt us more because once again we'll be going up into Asia to play instead of getting home advantage and a good look at some of the players of the future.

I'd be pretty surprised if a state government had any say in who is allowed into the country. Would be the federal government.

Disgrace.
By now, American Samoa must have realised that Australias 22-0 win over Tonga two days earlier was no fluke.

After watching some of the u17 world cup action, especially our Asian counterparts the likes of Iran, Iraq and Japan have impressed.
If we are not careful in the next few years we could in for some trouble in future world cup campaigns at Socceroo level.
For all of that technical progress that's being made, we have a lot more work to do if we want to qualify through Asia at youth level.

Its anyone is keen for some youth football action, tonight from 6pm the Young Matildas take on South Korea in the AFC u19 womens championship.
The team is coached by Gary Van Egmond and the team has some current Matildas players such as Princess Ibini (sister to Bernie) and Carpenter involved, the world cup next year if they qualify is in France.
The streams are available via YouTube in the AFC Hub, so if a stream pops up either me or whoever just post it on here.

No Lachlan Brook is a surprise unless hes too young or injured.
