If they can win the next 3 , it’s a whole different story , Adelaide were in a similar situation a few years ago , we just need to get a few games with same players playing together .

Time for JA to get an injury replacement for Kristensen? Gameiro one game and bone soreness. Still no Bowles . I appreciate JA was trying to help players and give them a chance to rehabilitate, but clearly his largesse with player selections has cost him half a season and most likely the whole season.I take no pleasure in saying this was going to happen in preseason. But I base my predictions on probabilities and not hope. Skapetis is still fit,so that one came off fortunatley.Although he hasn't had too many full games yet. A fit Kristensen is the player we miss most.

Daniel Bowles played the first half in the weekends NYL game: http://www.couriermail.com.au/sport/football/brisbane-roar-star-daniels-bowles-returns-from-knee-reconstruction-in-national-youth-league/news-story/b1acbd68bafb61b8dc666c965a96d392Quite astonishing is Brisbane were without 6 defenders for the weekend game and yet three selected defenders made Bozzas team of the week (only Pepper missed out)

Strong rumour that Brown has signed a precontract with Victory. Honestly not that bothered if O’Toole keeps this up - we’ve looked better with him in the team.
Off contract this winter are North (retiring?), Brown, Hingert, Franjic, Pepper, TK and Bowles
Staying on DeVere, Avraam, Ingham

+xSo looking at this , we now have 10 defenders in a squad of 23 ? Wonder how long until tards come sniffing . Interestingly, of the 10 defenders, all but O'Toole (who has had a great start to his career) could be considered genuine first team players. Whereas the front half of the field (11 players) includes players such as Jay Barnett, Adam Sawyer, Bryce Bafford, and Shannon Brady. Nothing against them, as they are all fairly young, but none of them would seriously challenge for a first team spot. So currently no pressure at all to hold your spot in the front half.

@ clockwork
I take comfort in two things - with the exception of Bes few join Victory and kick on with their careers and secondly, we always seem to find suitable replacements (although it took a year in Bes’s case when we signed someone based on the evidence of a DVD and the fact he was from the same region as Berisha lol).

You’re probably right but I don’t get the near post thing
(That and Thomas only made one save v Young’s 5).
If a shot is hit from close range with power and accuracy to the near post a keeper has no chance of saving it providing the ball is on the ground or going to the roof of the net unless it’s a very accute angle (which this wasn’t).
From that angle Young had to cover both posts, a bit like a penalty he had to gamble which way the attacker would shoot which is normally across goal - it was a one on one with his entire goal exposed, couch potato experts default to the “shouldn’t concede at your near post” which is nonsense when the attacker near as damn it, is front on - that expression originated with wingers coming in, at an accute angle, from the wing where the keeper is meant to cover the near post and defenders the rest ... somehow it’s morphed into the impossible statement that you should never concede at the near post - yet pretty much in every goal scored there’s always a near post.

Sorry Waz but my memory is that the shot to the near post was from 10 metres to the right and only 6 metres out. Just checked it again ...yep Young did have a great game (except for his woeful distribution) but that goal is one he should have have had covered . Shot was from a quite wide angle ....as for "yet pretty much in every goal scored there’s always a near post"....nope... disagree again . If he had scored to Jamies right (far post) it would not have been a near post goal ....so I don't understand that statement.

The normal rule of positioning as a keeper is drawing a triangle from each post to the ball and you stand in the middle of the triangle. Jamie is probably only 30-50 cm off where he should be, looking at that image.
So what his about brown going to vic. never heard this rumor.

@ miron
It’s further out than I remember but I still think my points valid. If from that position the attacker hits the ball with pace and accuracy into a small square at the bottom of the post or the top of the post the keepers not going to get it.
Hit it in the middle and granted the keeper should save it.
The only cover for that type of shot is to stand a half step closer to the near post which exposes the far post
I just think he (and other keepers) are treated a little harshly in this situation - the Striker is 6 meters away from the keeper and hits a bloody good shot.

Brisbane and TAFE Queensland have signed off on a training program that will give students the chance to forge a career in football training. The year-long Diploma of Sports Development starts in February at the Southbank campus for the top 25 applicants: http://www.couriermail.com.au/sport/football/a-league/brisbane-roar-and-tafe-queensland-to-offer-diploma-of-sports-development/news-story/11f21029b202367851d10382d13e58e2

Good points except in that position he should simply be a step closer to the striker, not either post . The closer he is to the striker the more he closes the spaces either side . Don't get me wrong ..I am not bagging Jamie ...Mauk should not have been allowed to get in that position on his own in the first place. However he should have done better with his positioning...and to be fair... Theo is far worse at defending his near post than Jamie . I am happy for Jamie to make the odd mistake as overall I think he is a better shot stopper than Theo . If Jamie ever gets his distribution right he could be anything .I fear however that he is what he is now and it may be too late to improve his distribution significantly. We need a good young keeper coming through.

To me it's not about his positioning, which is quite good I think. To me the error he made is that his actual attempt to save the shot was pretty poor.

I don't see why the government should fund these joke degrees and qualifications. This is no different to useless courses like game design or womens' studies.
