+x@ Maxxie. I have no problem with the red card. I have a problem with the VAR and this is just another example. I actually have no problem with two different refs on two different days giving different outcomes - referees will manage the game as they see fit. I do have an issue with a ref in a box with the benefit of time, replays and out of the spotlight applying wildly different outcomes. What the VAR was intended to improve its made worse. It is just implemented poorly, they just haven't learnt from the successors of other sports implementation. The thing is its a trial, its not working. So make changes so other can learn or is it so broken that its not worth it. As i said during the game thread the whole process of McKay send off was just stupid and confusing. The process should have been ref called for foul, seen the whole flare up and called for vars, while in conversation between the assistant to get a full image of what happen. VARS need to be implemented with the ref saying what to check like rugby, Ref has to call for VARS. VARS can only check for things in back play, or buzz in the ear like the assistant when say something then its up to the ref to call. Then the captain of the team can elect to having something checked when a goal is scored or foul given. If the ref or linesmen see nothing wrong for a goal VARS doesn't check unless the captain of the opposing team protest.

VAR should have been trialled outside of the big leagues first, it needed a season test before opening up the mess we have now.
And you’re right, they haven’t quite got the VAR right in terms of its status, any assistant referee can call incidents to the refereees attention at any time, the VAR can’t do this in real time and can only tell what happened earlier and only then after reviewing recorded images.
By design it’s not real time and so must slow the game down which damages one of the key elements of the sport - speed of action.
Ironically the issues are made worse by the expression “obvious error” which puts the VAR in the position of telling his mate “you’ve stuffed up and I’m about to highlight it in national television” as well as prioritising what the VAR reviews; bobo’s raking studs were not “an obvious error” because the ref didn’t see it so it was easy to say “grey area” and move on. And yet cutting out the off the ball incidents should surely be one benefit?
There’s a lot wrong with the VAR and it’s Cancer to the game imo, I hope they pause the implementation after this season and go away and think about it a lot more. Carrying on regardless is like a lemming continuing its march to the cliff top.

Obvious error is such a stupid thing. IT should be a technology to assist the main ref. I always go back to rugby, its always up to the centre field ref to make the call. He is in communication with the video ref to make that decision, watching the play on the big screen.

The A League is the only professional league in Australia, so no - not minor.
Anyway, the VAR is what it is - I’ve no faith that anyone will listen to fans.
Matty’s red though just underlined the ill-discipline within the squad this season

Mckay given a 2 match suspension.
The club have requested clarity on the VARs involvement as it appears to have breached at least two guidelines.
Honestly, the ffa - you couldn’t make this sh*t up

It’s embarrasing when the clubs issue the FFA with a “please explain” and not the other way around 😂
This entire season could end in farce if they’re not careful

They should just let VARdecide on goal line decisions and give each side 2 challenges.Beyond that VAR cannot interfere. Otherwise just bench the referees and place a drone with a camera over the field. Forget the obvious error and defer to challenges by each team. The game has managed no VAR for a 100years.

My concern wit the whole VAR thing is people like Bozza and the FFA are championing it as though they know better than us ! They don't !!!!!!!...pure and simple ...the only person who counts ....ie the fan...does not want it.... !!!
Rule 1 in business:
The customer is ALWAYS right.
Rule 2 : Read Rule one again ,dickhead !
This has not changed and never will. Do not tell your customers what to like and what is correct . They WILL go elsewhere !!!

Not huge in the context of this season lol but an upgrade on recent efforts and at kast they’re starting to listen to what fans want: “Recently, the club has been approached by members of the Den steering committee and the Roar Supporters Federation to change the BRFC walkout song. Brisbane Roar without hesitation has supported this request and commencing this Friday against Western Sydney Wanderers the club are delighted to announce a change in the walkout song to ‘My Happiness’ by iconic, local Brisbane band, Powderfinger. The change was made in consultation with supporters groups The DEN, who made the initial song request, and The RSF. While there may not be one song that everyone can agree upon, ‘My Happiness’ proved to be the popular choice amongst a large majority of fans. And importantly, the selection of this song came out of testing popular consensus within the supporter base. To support this change, we felt it appropriate to provide the lyrics to the song for all our members and supporters. On Friday against the Wanderers, the lyrics for 'My Happiness' will be shown on the Suncorp Stadium big screens as the players walk out onto the field ahead of the traditional 'WHO ARE WE' chant. BRFC will continue to work with all supporters to promote and improve the game-day experience and we hope this small step helps fans generate a great atmosphere. We sincerely appreciate your support to continue to make a loud impact at our fortress. https://www.brisbaneroar.com.au/news/club-support-new-walk-out-song-

Finally a song I happy with. With so many Brisbane artist with iconic songs it's good that it's finally one to have on the walkout.
My other choices was sunset or baby I've got you on my mind. However replace baby with Brisbane in the lyrics. Which is funny listening to the song at the moment.

Interesting that in a team that supposedly plays 433 we have 11 midfielders and 4 strikers. Also interesting that of our 11 midfielders only 4 have played more in midfield than up front - McKay, TK, Calletti, Holman - and 5 have played less than 90 minutes between them. Of our 4 strikers, 3 haven’t scored a single goal in half a season. Yet apparently we don’t need to be in the market?

@ clockwork
We haven’t played 433 for ever now; Aloisi’s preferred set up is 4231
The problems you highlight are still there and I feel Aloisi is force fitting who he has irrespective of whether they’re suitable eg playing Holman on the “wing” which he’s clearly not suited to instead of picking the best players in their best positions week in week out

We have had a large number of injuries this season, yet we have probably used fewer players than anyone but Sydney. Almost a third of the squad hasn’t played or have only played a few minutes. So we actually have a squad of 16 or so and a bunch of kids who watch the others play. God help us if Maccarone gets injured.

Agreed.
It looks increasingly like something or someone stuffed up preseason and gave us a continual long list of injured players. I know we’re not alone in this but only Glory seem to have had a perpetual long injury list.

I’ve written off this year , unless we can have a run in the ACL but looking to next year how many of the current squad should we be looking to retain and how many will be available for retention , have heard a few players may be on the move , which would mean we could be starting next year with a lot of new faces .

Let’s start with retention of visa players:
(V): Bautheac, FBK, Maccarone, Kristensen
Bautheac is contracted for at least one more year, so he stays. I presume the rest go although TK has one more season in him if he’s fit.

Why?
Our squad is younger than SFC’s and we’re the only team in the comp regularly playing U23 age players - Brown, O’Toole, Akbari, Skapetis, Caletti,
I get the joke but only Maccarone and FBK are regular starters of the older players.
Theo and North are squad players not starters, and they’ve been with the club for years - there’s also another thread bemoaning the loss of “club players” well there you have it - 2 club players. What’s the reward for that? Being called Dads Army!

Kristensen and Young are both off contract too.
I wouldn’t necessarily believe lists being produced, it became club policy under Kingsman not to release contract lengths so I recon they all got recorded as one year.

Off subject, I wondered about the busy Christmas schedule and did a spreadsheet of fixtures (from the fixtures list so could be wrong) then counted full days between games from Round 11 to Round 17. Roar has 3 breaks of only 2 or 3 days between games. Sydney, Central Coast, Jets and Melb City have only 1 short break. The others have 2 each. We really don't need that sort of scheduling when we have so many injuries - but simply swapping the dates of 2 rounds of Roar and Sydney fixtures over Christmas would have brought us back to only 2 short breaks and brought Sydney up to 2 as well, without forcing a short break on any other teams. I have no idea about previous years (whether someone always gets screwed over Christmas - in a scheduling sense) but it seems a very unbalanced draw and simple to avoid. I do note that other teams have as tough a run over Christmas itself - but Sydney and Jets seem to have a much more evenly spaced schedule overall which is funny given the fixtures are obviously set long before we know ladder positions; yet the two top sides ended up with the best Christmas run. Nothing in this is about how we are playing or placed - but interesting to see. | Full days between | | BR | 3 | 8 | 5 | 2 | 3 | 5 | | SF | 7 | 6 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 5 | | MV | 5 | 5 | 6 | 3 | 2 | 5 | | PG | 4 | 8 | 5 | 3 | 3 | 4 | | WP | 6 | 7 | 5 | 3 | 2 | 6 | | CC | 9 | 4 | 5 | 2 | 4 | 5 | | WS | 5 | 9 | 3 | 4 | 2 | 5 | | NJ | 5 | 6 | 4 | 5 | 2 | 7 | | AU | 9 | 3 | 5 | 4 | 3 | 6 | | MC | 7 | 8 | 4 | 2 | 4 | 6 |
When I wear their colours, I am the club.

That’s nice. So would you accept Adelaide United being called “Dads Army” then lol??
The ironies in that are of course the two oldest men on the pitch were responsible for the win last week and the oldest team in the competition is running away with it 😂
Honestly, internet trolls ...
