+xThere’s been a lot of talk about the change in culture at the club, on and off the field, and fouls are as good an example as any. We’re bottom or near bottom of the fair play league and we’re heading for a record season in terms of matches missed through suspension. Ross Aloisi leads the way off the pitch with some shocking behaviour and the fact he’s at the club despite all this tells you what the culture has become. And it matters because our culture was always a positive one, in the way we played and the attitude to the game (we were never saints mind you) and comebacks were routine as was scoring immediately after the opposition scored. But now if we’re 2-0 down it’s a loss in the bag and you can see it in the players body language. The Ref on Tuesday night was a joke, but they often are in the ACL when it’s a big nation v smaller nation, but that wasn’t the reason we lost although our players failed to play to the referee even if they didn’t like it We've actually won the Fair Play award for 50% of the a-league seasons so far, including 4 in a row during our era of dominance. No other club has won it more than once. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_A-League_honours#Fair_Play_AwardI think you're right that the deteriorating in on-field discipline is a sign of the massive shift in the culture at the club. Playing the right way comes from setting high standards for the team and it seems that just isn't a priority at the club any more. Taking cheap fouls as a matter of course comes from not having belief you can stop an opponent through skill, tactics and hard work.

Just reading the posts from Brisbane Roar on facebook and I am having a good chuckle. "He scored the decisive goal in our last Hyundai A-League match & the former Socceroos midfielder says we have what it takes to return from Gosford with the three points." So we have got what it takes to beat the Mariners away from home but can't even beat a Filipino club at home who had just started their pre-season....."GAME DAY! We're in Gosford hunting back-to-back Hyundai A-League wins tonight!" Back to back wins, how exciting, that could bring us to a total of 5 wins this season.
"We are undefeated in our last 10 games against Central Coast Mariners. Hit that like button if you're backing us to extend that run tonight!" I hit the laugh button, does that count?

@ Mr. B.
Know where you’re coming from. Most marketing is done by kids and I’m not sure many of them follow football to be honest - I guess that’s what you get running this stuff out of Sydney somewhere.

If the Roar were playing any team bar CCM tonight, I'd put them down for a pasting. Although maybe losing to CCM at Gosford would be the point the owners say "No more" and sack Aloisi- and the players will (under) perform for it?
There are only two intellectually honest debate tactics: (a) pointing out errors or omissions in your opponent’s facts, or (b) pointing out errors or omissions in your opponent’s logic. All other debate tactics are intellectually dishonest - John T. Reed

@ Captain Haddock.
Short of a 10-0 thumping or a player revolt Aloisi is safe until the end of the season.
I don’t think he’s untouchable but I think he’ll be judged on whether he makes the finals, then how well they do there.
I think they’ve figured out that JA is one of the most junior coaches in the comp, surrounded by inexperienced people, in a process free club reporting to a Chairman that lives in Jakarta.

Mr. B is saved from wasting $10 on a failed multi ✔️
Eric, Holman, Avraam, Mckay had great games and Leck ran his arse off ✔️
We actually did play some good football in places ✔️
Aloisi’s post match interview was excuse-less ✔️
Much to work on but a start

They asked Aloisi if he and the club deserved all the criticism and he took it on the chin and said the right things, no excuses for once. Still don't think he is the man to take us forward though but until the Bakries are gone it doesn't really matter anyway. ,

Yeah much better post match interview, must have read the letter lol.
For Aloisi to succeed he needs a good TD above him, and a great assistant manager by his side

Saw Roar had their new physio working last night: “NEW PHYSIO: Stuart Leake has joined Roar as the new head physio from Hull City F.C. in England where he’s been the first team physio for 5 years as well as being a guest lecturer at the University of Hull. Prior to Hull City Stuart was physio at Hull Cricket Club and the Yorkshire Triathlon Academy as well as working in Rugby League with Hull K.R. and Featherstone. Stuart holds an MSc in Sports Physiotherapy (Bath) and a BSc in Physiotherapy (Hallam). With over 13 years experience in sports Physiotherapy, including time in the English Premier League, Stuart is a welcome addition to Brisbane’s team. His professional profile can be viewed at: https://www.linkedin.com/in/stuart-leake-132a11114”Looks an improvement on whatever they had before where players were rumoured to be paying privately

Wow we won yesterday and sadly ,while i should be happy i am conflicted. It's like picking at a sore hoping it will go away, then finally succumbing to letting a scab form. But knowing the only way the sore will go is having it surgically removed. Poor old CCM.There really are other teams in a mess. PG,WP,CCM&BR...what a diabolic year this year is.None of those teams should be allowed a finals spot. But one will.

I hate to say it but I was hoping we lost yesterday as bad as that sounds and I hope we don't make the finals either because all it would do is paper over the big cracks. We were gifted goals just like the Adelaide game, both times we were out played but got lucky. I felt nothing after the game really, not happy, not sad, just empty is probably the word I use. What is strange is there still is people backing Aloisi  They are even using all the excuses he used all season for the reasons we are in this predicament when the answer is simple, he is not good enough.

@Waz “For Aloisi to succeed he needs a good TD above him, and a great assistant manager by his side”. On a similar basis, any mediocre player can be part of a winning team, so long as everyone around them is so good that their lack of contribution is irrelevant.

@ clockwork
That’s exactly what a salary capped league allows right - mediocre players and coaches to survive.
The transition from player to coach is a tough one, especially in Australia where you have 9 professional clubs and then it’s Sunday football.
Okon is proving the point - shit results, almost as bad as Walmsley only it looks prettier. But he’s not a good coach.
I’m not saying I agree with keeping Aloisi on but throwing inexperienced coaches in to first team roles ain’t working and sacking them early will continue if clubs don’t invest in support around them.

W League team three points clear at the top with one game to go. A draw at home next Sunday to Canberra seals the title 😀

@Waz So why wouldn’t Aloisi and other young coaches be expected to have to prove themselves in NPL or state league? CCM, led by Okon has beaten FC and should have won quite a few other games but for immaturity/lack of composure. Give Okon a squad of 7-8 internationals like Aloisi has, and he’d have them top 3 or 4 easily.

The NPL is nowhere near the standard required. It’s semi-professional as well so a coach needs a day job along with all his players. That’s part of the reason why a Div 2 is essential - another ten full time coaching positions.
Okon? He’s a fraud, he’s no better than Walmsley.
The problem now for Australia is after the “Ange era” where he sponsored every young Aussie coach into HAL jobs is why would anyone put a young Australian coach in? You wouldn’t, you go and get a German or something

How many years do you suggest we give Aloisi to develop his coaching skills. He’s had 3 and a half years already at A League level. So we fans just keep paying out our hard earned to watch rubbish, just so JA can develop his skills in a highly paid job ... wouldn’t want him having to dip into his personal fortune, now would we?

@ clockwork
I think you’re missing my point. Give Okon the Roar job and he’ll screw it up. Look at Muscat getting caught out at Victory.
Who is the best Aussie coach? 66 year old Arnie (well, he looks 66). So what I’m saying is for Aussie coaches to develop we need more support for them than just hire n fire.
What I was saying is if Roar are to keep Aloisi (or any Australian coach not called Arnie) then they’re going to have to support in around him: a TD above, a Football Manager below, and a good assistant by their side.
Personally I’d put a German in at Roar with Broich as his assistant.

Lets take a trip down memory lane with these gems of quotes from back in 2014 when Mulvey got the boot. “We firmly believe in the principles and philosophies Ange and Ken (Stead) put in place here and upon which we built the strongest football club in the A-League,” Dobson said. “When we believe that is being compromised it is our duty to act. We believe there is a way to go about things — a way to play football and a way to prepare. Those standards were not being met and that is unacceptable.” https://www.theaustralian.com.au/sport/football/roars-treatment-of-former-coach-mike-mulvey-hard-to-comprehend/news-story/934560d8ef63bd24bac5bc19b9af2145Also mentioned preaching about the club’s commitment to professionalism and their desire to create a culture based on the highest possible ethical standards, this was back in 2014. It seems they keep preaching the same bullshit after each stuff up but don't actually do anything, just empty words.
