+x+x+x+x+x+x+xThomas 2 year deal, Valeri and Broxham 1. Very happy with this, provided that Valeri is a squad player/not deployed in a pivot with Antonis. Both Broxham and Thomas are partially salary cap exempt under the loyalty rule (Broxham 50% exempt / Thomas 25% exempt), so easy signings to make. I wonder if Valeri will retain his captaincy. The captain really needs to be a starting player who plays 80-90 mins every match. Not sure Valeri really fits that role any more. i knew the 50% loyalty thing kicked in after a certain period (6 years I think?), but I have never heard of any 25% exemption. how many years is that? Valeri has played 4 years with us. - 5 consecutive seasons - 25% of salary exempt from cap
- 6 consecutive seasons - 30% of salary exempt from cap
- 7 consecutive seasons - 35% of salary exempt from cap
- 8 consecutive seasons - 40% of salary exempt from cap
- 9 consecutive seasons - 45% of salary exempt from cap
- 10+ consecutive seasons - 50% of salary exempt from cap
Valeri signed on for the 2014/15 season so next season that also puts him in the 25% exempt category. Next season will also be Berisha's 5th season so 25% of his salary will be exempt if he is not a marquee next season.
The collective exemption value of all eligible players cannot exceed $200K.
not saying I don't believe you, but I have never heard of this before. can you attach a link to that so I can read for myself? It does seem like a good rule tbh. for arguments sake... If Berisha stays on and is on 500k, 125k would be out of the cap. If Valeri is on 200, 50k will be out of the cap. If Broxy is on 150k, 75k will be out of the cap. If Thomas is on 200k, 50k will be out of the cap. that's 300k saved (10% of the cap), which could get us a decent visa player Total exempt figure is 200k, it can't exceed that. - Loyalty Players – A Club can spend up to a collective $200,000 across any number of Players that have given 5 or more consecutive seasons of service to the Club. A portion of a Loyalty Player’s contract value is excluded from the Salary Cap based on a progressive scale from 25% (5th continuous season) to 50% (10thcontinuous season onwards);
https://www.a-league.com.au/salary-cap-system Which sucks imo - a player is either loyal or they aren't. Gives clubs more incentive for clubs to tie players down to longer contracts if the loyalty exemption is uncapped, especially if they can get generous cap exclusions. It'd be a band-aid solution to the entire salary cap nonsense, but a positive one, not to mention that, as Feed_The_Brox mentioned, if a club can save anywhere up to $500k in the cap thanks to loyalty exemptions, that's a pretty handy visa player, which in turn leads to a better competition yadayadayada It's a bit of a strange rule, but at least MV will be able to utilise that full $200k exemption. With the high turn over of players in the league, I reckon there aren't many other clubs that can take full advantage of the rule next season.

Just chatting to a mate of mine. He was talking about the NPL team and how the Goalkeeper they'd signed from the AIS has been on a mid-season break, and the stand-in keeper who's had some stand-out performances in recent weeks including a man of the match performance, is likely to be dropped because of the agreement A-League clubs have with guaranteeing playing time to these guys from the AIS.
Is this not where Australia's youth system fails its players? The politics of it all just pisses me right off. I might be taking this out of proportion, but Fuck me, the guy deserves his spot!! He's miles ahead of him in development and older, wheres the logic?
Thank god we're getting away from the AIS, such bullshit!!

Curtis Good has officially left Newcastle United - sourceWith the rumours of Donachie leaving for Korea still persisting, is Good worth a punt? Had a terrible injury record at the Toon, but we kept Rhys Williams together last season so hopefully our conditioning staff can do the same for Good if we went for him.

Talk that Williams if off to UAE or Saudi. https://twitter.com/DanielGarb/status/1007206135047176193At least we'd get a massive fee for him (Y).

Shame, but can't blame him if he goes. Unfortunately, as long as we have a stupid salary cap, HAL clubs are always going to lose quality players to overseas leagues.

+xThe young standout keeper is Mawith? Yep, it turns out he kept his spot thankfully, but they got spanked 6-0 against top of the table Moreland City, with Makarounas opening the scoring. Who knows what will happen.

Another decent Aussie defender off to Korea.
Can't just one give Europe a try?
Sad to see him go, but as long as we keep Williams and he stays fit we have a CB pair, but they'll need at least one full time backup.
It's concerning to see yet another youth playep in Waring leave after not being given enough of a chance he perhaps should have had.
