Williams gone.
Melbourne Victory can confirm that defender Rhys Williams has left the club to pursue an offer overseas.
Williams, who was contracted for another year and features prominently in the club's 2018/19 membership campign, made 32 appearances in all competitions during his one season at AAMI Park.
"We are obviously extremely disappointed to lose a player of Rhys' quality," said Head Coach Kevin Muscat.
"We'd planned for Rhys to be here for at least another season, but in the end we honoured the agreement we made when he first joined the club, so we thank him for his contribution and wish him all the best.
"While it's frustrating when things like this happen, we will continue adding quality players to the squad ahead of the new season."
Melbourne Victory would like to thank Rhys for his contribution to the club throughout the Championship-winning 2017/18 season.

Hey guys don't stress we've still got Jai Ingham!
If anyone with a footballing brain in the FFA was looking at what has happened to victory and Sydney in the post 2 weeks they'd be shutting the bed. Something has to change now, the cap doesn't work when it's so small and there are other leagues to go to!

It would be interesting to know what price Leroy George is asking for. With all the departures at MV this off season, it's surprising they have not been able to find a deal. MV have plenty of room within the cap as well as at least 1 marquee spot (possibly even 2 depending on the agreement with Troisi). With his performance last season no-one would have complained if MV offered George a marquee spot.
If we don't make a few key signings shortly, Glory are going to destroy us at that FFA cup match. It's less than a month away and we have very diminished attacking options and less than ideal central defence.

So that's Williams, Donachie, Bes, Nigro, Geria, Leroy, Theo and Waring all gone?
And we've signed Roux, Brown and Holla (did this one actually happen)?
Oh and re-signed Brox and Valeri...awesome
At least we should have some cap space

Defensive player who is definitely not happy. A lot going on behind the scenes at MV all the way down to their academy as well which is said to be second rate to what City is doing. Interesting times

Not sure who else from defence would want out as there is only really Deng left as Thomas agreed new terms.
With the substantial increase for Leroy mustn't of been substantial enough. A new Hyundai perhaps.

Interesting times This doesn't surprise me tbh - Victory had almost a decade headstart on CFG and yet the fact we still don't have a semblance of an Academy running yet speaks volumes. Compare the pair - two highly talented youngsters in Pasquali and Arzani. How have City been able to retain Arzani (at least for a short while) whilst we couldn't retain Pasquali? Some serious questions need to be asked.

Interesting times Having a head time believing that when in the past year we've gotten rid of Geria, Milligan, Williams, Donachie and Bes. And those were just the contracted players. They're all better players than any defenders left, including Deng. Seems strange to not let one player leave when so many others have left.

Okay, so how do we gain ground on that advantage? Do the club need to build more partnerships with overseas clubs to create a more viable 'network' for young Aussies to tap in to? Do we need to offer more cash under the cap for these youngsters? How do we stop being the 'poor cousin' in Melbourne and become an attractive proposition for young Aussies to play for the Vuck over City? I'm not naive to think that the CFG connection isn't a massive influence - my concern is, what is the Vuck doing to close that advantage?

Big difference when you have contractual power. If Arzani made the same impact at the same age as pasquali with essentially no contract I bet he'd be in Amsterdam now. On top of that victory don't have CFG which gives them a hell of a lot of power to stay maybe train in Manchester, or move there in the future, who knows.

Victory hired Paulo Cardoso as their academy director a couple of years ago. I believe he was a scout and former youth coach for Sporting CP and was responsible for ID'ing CR7. Not sure what influence he has had on the academy to date though.

Deng was offered a lucrative deal in Japan, only for Kevin to knock it back. Trimboli also causing a number of issues at the club. Believe what you will
