@ BrissyRoo
I’m going to disagree with you here.
Roars recruitment has been very good this season, and they’ve signed a lot of good players early and the fact there’s so many names attached to rumours suggests they’re working very hard at this.
If they sign Flood (who I agree would be an underwhelming signing) then it’s fair to say the football department has worked hard at recruiting and they will have their reasons for doing it.
Roar deserve credit for what they’ve done so far and on that basis If (if) they sign flood then I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt until we see him play.

He's Matt McKay but right footed. We'd be better off giving a YT player his squad number - Akbari for instance.

I’m not gonna argue for Flood. I’m just saying that the FD has done everything right this winter.

It looks good. Admittedly I would feel better if we got up over MC but what that game really showed me is that we need that quality link between our midfield base and wings/Mauk/Tagz. Shit, I would even take Milligan at this point (who I don't actually rate that highly). He can dribble a bit and makes decent decisions on the ball. Terry Antonis is really the guy we need but - or a player of similar style and skill.

Dare I say it... Samir Nasri? I would happily drop Mauk back into the #8 role to bring in Nasri or Hatem Ben Arfa. Miguel Veloso is a free agent. So is Steph Mbia. Pontus Wernbloom is a gun and a free agent. Yaya Toure.
We really should take a punt on a guy that had the world at his feet a few years ago and is still only 25 in Adam Maher. Not sure what happened to him but has already played 150 Eredivisie games, had 50+ goal contributions... And has just fallen off the radar. Played off the bench for Twente last year. Has Broich 2.0 written all over him imo.

Samir Nasri is banned until late 2019 isn’t he?

+xSamir Nasri is banned until late 2019 isn’t he? I thought it was a 6 month ban and he got it in Feb. So should be eligible again? Dunno but. Ideally the Dutch guy we were looking at is Maher and he comes here to reset his career and dominate for us.

Didn't play the first half of the season in the Eredivisie last year but then started the last 16 league games in a row when he went on loan to Twente from PSV (although his team finished last). I'd definitely be excited to see what he could do but I can't really see him agreeing to a move.

Are the Roar doing anything around the Ekka for kids this year Waz? Surely something is happening - they were at Oktoberfest last year 😂

Vince Rugari tweeting that the Flamini deal is still alive with a decision likely in the next 72 hours.

Well we’ve got the Sydney game today. If any news is coming it’ll be after that.

Full time? Again not great. Sydney have a pretty weak team ATM with lots of hols to plug.

+xFull time? Again not great. Sydney have a pretty weak team ATM with lots of hols to plug. Think we would need to see team sheets before reading into this result too much. Sydney still have one of the best back lines in the league and certainly two of the most solid DM's. They have De Silva, Ninkovic, and Brosque is fantastic for his age. I believe they also had that Sebastian Gallegos on trial again. I think the only real 'weak' player in Sydney's starting XI is Buhargier, and he scores their goal. He's looked quite good in other games this pre-season also, so maybe not really a weak link. I'd say we are still playing without our starting CB pairing, which is a worry, and who knows whether Taggart is fit enough to start yet.

@ Mello-D
Agree that without that spine we do not have a lot of clarity as to how well we'll go this year. Looks good, but need people on the paddock. SFC, particularly De Silva, looked good in their FFA Cup game. I expect him to have a big year (unfortunately).

it's been around 72 hours since Rugari tweeted about Flamini.
Should we expect an announcement today?

+xit's been around 72 hours since Rugari tweeted about Flamini. Should we expect an announcement today? its 5 am in mainland Europe. I suspect that his agent would probably have said "ill have an answer thursday" so i wouldn't expect news until normal business hours over in Europe (5pm-4am brisbane time)

The Agent would confirm with the club and the club would announce during business hours here you’d assume?

Apparently he is keen. Plenty to discuss apparently (more business than football so far) but they are in final stages of negotiation

What part specifically of the business side of it would potentially stop him from signing?
Him having to be in certain places/times for meetings?
Would it affect training/playing?

@BRFC92
Here’s my understanding- there’s a genuine deal being done, the commercials are sorted in terms of his wages etc, the footballing side is now the main focus but the business side still matters but it is not an impediment to the football. Because it’s taking so long everyone seems to believe they’re in genuine negotiations, and a “no” would have come sooner so they’re feeling confident
