+x+xThat's awesome news for Mebrahtu. Sparta are a huge club and the Czech league is actually ranked a lot higher than people realise, only a tick below the Dutch league by most ranking systems and way above scotland. Sparta are the equivalent of Celtic these days standard wise but if golgol was subbed in for Celtic I bet this forum would be losing their shit. Anyways great effort particularly after only joining couple of weeks back. Along with Giannou and Mabil I think golgol will be the Aussies abroad bolters this yr He's now at a decent club in ČR, but there would be no comparison between being at Sparta and Celtic, Celtic by a long way. I have no faith in these ranking systems because Eredivisie is noticeably better than Fortuna Liga and has more consistent quality across the field. You could have chosen 6 clubs last season deserving of the drop, and it didn't go unnoticed - they've now reformatted the league to have a relegation playoff played by the bottom 3rd of the table. For Mebrahtu, his big challenge is getting a regular start. He's been used as lone gunman previously at Mladá Boleslav. At Sparta he's behind Tetteh who is in goal scoring form. That said, he's been in Fortuna Liga for a while (Slovacko and Bohemians) and been fairly ordinary for a number of years, so I'm confident Mebrahtu will get his chance once Tetteh's hot streak is over. Mate. Have you watched the Dutch and scottish leagues recently?! It's not great. There's a reason Denis Genreau gone from youth team to eredevise starter put it that way. And regarding Scotland their sides have performed pitifully in Europe for many years now. All those ranking sites measure is results... that's it. Not statue, not brand... just results. I appreciate you are Czech and know how big Sparta are but a lot on this forum don't given its not an Anglo country. Just trying to add perspective

Celtic are these days the best team in Scotland Sparta these days are second best = roughly equal quality You are being blinded by the celtic 'brand' and I'm a Celtic supporter! Results point otherwise

I appreciate you are Czech and know how big Sparta are but a lot on this forum don't given its not an Anglo country. Just trying to add perspective Welcome your comments mate. Honestly, as a Czech Aussie it's a bit surreal that people are even taking some notice of Czech football. Czech football's main strength is in ball skills - passing and finishing. In other areas it lags significantly. Strategy and team work is poor - below HAL level. Athleticism is fairly poor. Czechs don't try to force outcomes through hard pressing, or opening up the field with gut running and high tempo. They prefer confined spaces, working through them with ground passes. What I will give them is that although the build up can be frustrating, they can be quite good finishers. A highlights reel of finishes would make the league look better than it is overall. SPL tempo is faster and the athleticism and physicality is far beyond the Czechs. That's not to say Czech players are pussies, but on a cultural level if you tried playing with physicality like you see in HAL/Championship/SPL, Czech players hate it and take a swing. I see it very often. For tempo and athleticism, an SPL side will run most Fortuna Liga teams ragged. Dutch football is noticeably above both for ball skills. Not just the leagues, but Dutch players at all levels. They spend far more time with the ball of their feet and it shows in their football. You notice within a minute how much more crisp the build up play is. Eredivisie isn't the league it has been, but I still rate it higher than both SPL and Fortuna Liga.

Lol seems like that!! Either way I'm just glad golgol is playing at a good club along with a few of the other boys. Clubs like rosenborg (Gersbach), Sparta, Midtylland (mabil), red star Belgrade (degenek) and aek larnaca (giannou), even Austria wien (jeggo) and linz (holland) are decent clubs who dominate their respective leagues (not so much linz and Austria wien) and have performed well in Europe past few yrs.

By now, American Samoa must have realised that Australias 22-0 win over Tonga two days earlier was no fluke.

Also, listening to Damian Davies on FNR he said he had been speaking to Martin Boyle fairly recently and he is going through the process of getting an Australian passport to make him eligible. Another good acquisition it seems.
Does anyone know much about him? I can’t say I have seen any of him to be honest. Is he an upgrade on what we already have?

If he’s not good enough for Scotland why would he be good enough for Australia? We are better and stronger than Scotland and have been since we thumped them at Hampden Park might have been in 2001.

Jesus Fuck. Well PSV got thumped 4-0. Messi a hatrick. WTF happened to this PSV, stage fright ? What a load of bullshit. Out of Champs League already , which means Sains and Behich have only domestic comp games from which to make a case for starting. Boring af Denegek got lucky in that group.

You get the feeling with PSV, they have a couple of world class strikers up front. But obviously defensively, they fell to pieces last night. Not good enough and if they want to compete in UCL , they need to fix that.

I think we're about the same level Anyways, Martin Boyle can play RB, RWB, RM.... which is where we're lacking depth, hence why, he's an attractive option.

Barcelona have only lost one Champions League home leg or match at Camp Nou in the last nine years. Absolutely it's a group of death, but there's still five five games for them to give it a go. Ajax lost 4-0 there in the first match of the 13-14 UCL and went on to only finish one point behind AC Milan in 3rd.

+xIS Degenek and Sainsbury going to be new centre backs from now on? Degenek clearly deserves a shot at CB. He is the CB playing at the highest level consistently. He put in a great performance overnight according to reports.

Yep 100% we should be giving Sains & Degenek a solid run of games together as the CB partnership heading into the Asian Cup. None of our other options come close to the level those two are at atm.
RB is the one position I don’t mind having a ‘non-Aussie’ play for the Socceroos because we are legit that desperate, so happy for Martin Boyle to join if he can help us out there.
