Yeah I heard Alan Jones referenced Hillsbrough a while back. Ridiculous scare tactics.

+xYeah I heard Alan Jones referenced Hillsbrough a while back. Ridiculous scare tactics. That's BS to use Hillsbrough. If they want to then we should shut SFS down now. How can they risk lives right now? Glad Fitzsimmons is pointing this stuff out.

The report of a 5 month NSW Parliamentary inquiry was released today. An article in the SMH says re Allianz Stadium:- "The government held only a minority of positions on the inquiry, but the committee ultimately supported its case for demolishing and rebuilding Allianz Stadium, accepting the evidence that "significant safety and security concerns" required "immediate attention"." The report is quite scathing on other issues. https://www.smh.com.au/politics/nsw/anz-stadium-revamp-should-be-postponed-parliamentary-committee-finds-20180927-p506ey.html

The SCG Trust should all be sacked for letting the ground fall into such disrepute. Had the problem been looked after earlier, we would not need to do a rebuild nor would it cost so much! :)

So where are the Roosters, Warratahs and Sydney FC going to play while the SFS replacement is built?

+xSo where are the Roosters, Warratahs and Sydney FC going to play while the SFS replacement is built? Smurfs will play some big games at the SCG, majority of games at Kogorah and some games at Leichhardt. Not sure with the others. I imagine Waratahs to the soulless ANZ. Eastern Suburbs NRL is a mystery.

They've got Victory once at Kogarah in round 5 in November and once at the SCG in April. Already have my flights booked for the first. The view from the away bay at the SCG is probably awful, but it'll be the penultimate match of the regular season and possibly worth the trip regardless, haven't decided yet obviously.

Kogarah is actually an oval shape and the games I have watched there, the view isn't great from ground level. Leichhardt is probably the pick of the bunch for atmosphere and ambience and the SCG should be fine if you get an elevated view.

While it's true it's an oval, it's pretty obviously a much smaller oval that we deal with in AFL states so that's something. The Victory away end gets the hill on the South so hopefully some decent elevation there. Agree Leichardt would be better, I've been there twice, both times the relatively small crowds brought a good atmosphere. I guess that Kogarah has more modern facilities? Johnny Howard pushed that one through I believe. The SCG might be better with a view on a higher stand, but that's no good for away fans, same reason I've been to Hindmarsh many times but never bothered with Adelaide Oval as an away fan (I did sit on the wing for the Socceroos v Saudi, view was ok, atmosphere meh).

I guess in the end it is the best mix they can go with. In regards to the stadium rebuilds, I worked at the NRL final with a company that also does Parramatta and Kogarah catering. People dont seem to understand the importance of big sporting events to provide regular casual service jobs and this is an area that NSW is missing out on to Victoria. It is ridiculous that both stadiums need to be rebuilt so soon but the facilities at ANZ and SFS are just sub standard because they werent built properly the first time. All that is going to happen with people blocking the redevelopment is that they are going to be rebuilt on the cheap again because the government will try to cut costs instead of providing a vital, state of the art piece of job creation infrastructure. Anyway, end rant #fuckoffpeterfitsimons

A half arsed job that doesn't resolve the terrible sightlines means we are going to be stuck with that shithole for our most important games forever. I'm hoping that if NSW Labor win the election, that they just fucking leave homebush alone because some cheap refurbishment means no one is going to touch the place for at least another 20+ years and Australia will never get the quality large capacity rectangular stadium that we need.

So the only thing palatable about a total rebuild, the multi capacity mode, has already been canned despite it being shouted about by the SCG and Stuart Ayres for months to silence doubters. Surprise surprise.

Surprise surprise. Danny Townshend has apparently confirmed it is still happening on twitter (can't find is due to not having twitter). Pretty underwhelming otherwise. I wish we were getting something similar to the new Parramatta.

What the fuck? It look exactly like the old one with the same level of lack of roof coverage. So those old fucking cricket & rugby clowns are stealing 800 million dollars of public money for an exact replica of the same stadium they spent years attempting to decry so they could get the funding for it.

So those old fucking cricket & rugby clowns are stealing 800 million dollars of public money for an exact replica of the same stadium they spent years attempting to decry so they could get the funding for it. About the only things that are similar between the old stadium and the new design are that the pitch is a grassed rectangle and each of the top tiers along the sides is in the form of a minor segment of a circle which is driven by the limited length available on the site. The differences are that the new design has 2 equally loaded tiers right around the ground instead of 1, the roof is structurally different, is translucent and covers, from viewing the images, all but a couple of rows of seats (they claim "fully covered") with the inner part of the roof being transparent to aid grass growth. Additionally the new design doesn't have sky boxes at the ends of the ground. When it comes to the accommodation behind the seating tiers the new design is significantly superior in that it provides better player facilities, better amenities, better access and egress paths, better security, facilities for better food offerings, more and better corporate spaces etc.. Is it worth $729m? Seems right at the top end at 16k per seat but with demolition of the stadium and quite a number of buildings and SCG facilities to go and possibly be replaced elsewhere the site preparation costs might be well above normal.

+x+xFFS - that media zone block... What the fuck is that? 8-10 thousand seats for the media? The Western Stand is really a function centre with views of the pitch. Level one is a big dinning hall, two and three are corporate, with the media on top. The whole stand is designed to accommodate 2500-3000 people.

The stadium has no more corporate suites than any other modern stadium. Rather than have a single corporate level around the whole ground, they chose to have them on one side. The result: 3/4 of the ground's stands for the average punter are closer to the action, and all corporate suites can be sold at premium rates, rather than having suites behind the goals which sell for less. All round it's a smarter way of doing things.
Some people here are looking too hard for negatives. It's an outstanding stadium design.
