I have to be critical of Paine's captaincy. He failed to bring Labuchagne on sooner and the leggie proved to be our only other multi wicketaker. How long before he introduces him in the second. Holland has been mediocre. Would have preferred Agar who is an attacking left armer.

Holland got a few wickets.

Sayers only bowls 120 kph.

Slowest specialist fast bowler we've picked in 20 years of speed guns.

Part timers Mark Waugh, Shane Watson, Greg Blewett, James Faulkner and Marsh are much quicker.

Pace is not everything as Philander and Abbas prove. Sayers swings it both ways.

We see and we dont like it. CA see it.. do they do anything to stop it? Those Indian like decks at the NCC are next to useless as they are only for practice not play.

An inside story is Peevers and Sutherland told the Aussie team after the debacle  against South Africa at Bellerive, that performances like that were unacceptable.

They told them they wanted  victory - by any means possible.

Both  should've been sacked. Sutherland walked.  Peevers is still there.

These bastards are just bean counters who are sycophants to the corporate dollar.  The development of the game is secondary to them. They are like officials in AFL and football.

They worry about results in Australia, because they are under heavy scrutiny. This  is because everybody sees the team perform in Australia. Overseas, only  30% of Aussies have pay TV, with 50% disinterested in cricket. I'd surmise 12 - 15 % see Australia play overseas outside England.

Cricket Australia is also doing less and less for members. Many stalwart members from the Tas Cricket Assoc have relinquished memberships. Cricket  Aus will not listen to members' concerns.

We struggle in Asia.

Most Aussies don't see it.

Out  of sight, out of mind.

I am more annoyed because we don't pick our best team, plus our lack of killer instinct and proneness to major collapses is just so poor. Even in Asia we shouldn't go from a position of major strength to having lost the test 90 overs later.

With the notable exceptions of Renshaw and Maxwell, from players I've seen play in the Shield from all states, we have close to our best team in the UAE.

I see every state team play in any season. I've also made friends with guys who know a lot about the game, like former Shield players. They identify technical weaknesses and strengths in players most of us can't see.

When we have a batting lineup as weak as ours currently i'd have gone with a very different approach for this series. I'd have played Labu as our 2nd spinner instead of Holland and then bring in Maxwell and Renshaw. Just a much more well rounded team in these conditions

It is the batting that is killing us.

No it is their bowling.. two in particular.. Abbas and Shah.  They seem to hold a spell over most of our blokes.

Khawaja, Head, Finch and Paine showed that our batting is strong if we are strong minded.

They remained on reputation Marsh sr for his previous Asian record and Marsh jr for some welcome form in Sth Africa. I would stick with Mitch not Shaun. His days are done.

Labu has been a good part time bowler, but I’d prefer Maxwell as the number 6 all rounder.

For leg spin I’d prefer a specialist wrist spinner over Holland.

Are the Victorian Pakistani and Swepson regulars in the Shield though?

Know what you meant KW. My reply above. Reckon Shah has been fair Abbas has been the magician. He is the one holding a spell over us. Like Philander did to us in 2016

Swepson has gone way off the radar. You talking of Fawad Ahmed?  CA seem reluctant to give him a Test. Why has Zampa not been given Tests.. He has performed well in the shorter formats. Has a good wrong'n and other variations.

I think Labu will prove superior in all facets to Maxwell...maybe not fielding. So I would keep him.
