The Jordan coach said they were going to fight till the death and they certainly gave the YS a fight! They pressed so hard it forced the YS to play Jordans game. Delianov shouldve got man of the match. Made some outstanding saves to keep YS in the game. Thought Milicic shouldve replaced the left back (Cordier ??) earlier. Pierias looked much better when he came on in that position. Also Iredale had a shocker shouldve been replaced much earlier. Pasquali a little underwhelming but he has been sick so maybe still a bit off. Metcalfe looked quality made a few mistakes but overall positioning was excellent made some good runs and passes. Midfield died when he came off. Look forward to seeing more from him in the future. Thugate worked hard. Puts in a solid performance. Folami good but hangs onto ball too long needs to work as a team player more. Overall not their best game but put up a good fight. Going to be a tough match against the Saudis.

just wish we had the organisation at the back most of the goals we have conceded were just basic errors at the back. good signs though.

Well done to the boys. It was ugly towards the end, but they still managed to get a result they needed. Some other youth teams of the recent past would have wilted under that pressure at the end.

I thought the shape and structure of the team in defence was shocking ... I would guess a lot of these other teams play regularly together, the Aussie's really didn't look like they knew the bloke beside them.
They also let the game be way too open, and huge spaces between the midfield and defence (perhaps the wrong formation given the conditions).
They played how I imagined a regional / association representative youth team would play. Given the quality that these players must have (I've seen the set up in quality of players simply from the lowest level to the next level, so can only imagine the step up in quality to represent Australia), it was very surprising to me how poorly they played ... made lots of mistakes, and set up tactically as a much lower youth team than our national youth team in my opinion.
I'd have to echo the sentiment that playing senior football (even at a lower level) is probably more beneficial for a players development (in the rugby league the country players used to be able to step straight up to the NSWRL because they had played against seniors for years, whereas the city players were still competing in youth leagues). I think someone like Pasquali is in a good environment (a world class academy and now playing in the Jong side, that plays in a senior comp), not all can get to such a level with an academy but going on loan to lower level sides to ensure they are playing senior football would be beneficial to most.
Remember Gallifuoco ... Hotspur and Swansea junior?? Made 3 appearances for the Victory (but wasn't good enough) ... went to 5th and 6th tier English sides, now with a newly promoted Serie C team in Italy. I wonder how his career may have been if he hadn't played youth football until 21??

+xLooks like 11:30 Monday night Posted this update in Aussies Abroad thread but thought it might be useful here. Re: Folami I see that Ipswich Town sacked their manager Paul Hurst late last week after getting only one win in their first 14 matches of the season. Ben Folami was getting some senior games at end of last season under then manager Mick McCarthy but he was totally shut out under Hurst (he was going to go on loan until the AFC tournaments came up) - lets hope that the new manager takes a different view. Mind you, they are in such deep shit, the manager might ignore young players in the desperate bid to get them out of relegation. Fingers crossed he gets some senior game time even if its on loan somewhere.

Qatar 7-3 Thailand https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ihAEJb8iMyE+xanybody have a link to a live stream for the Suadi v Australia game ? Should be a couple in here shortly before kickoff
By now, American Samoa must have realised that Australias 22-0 win over Tonga two days earlier was no fluke.

Don't know if the match is going ahead. Horrific airline crash in the Java Sea today. The other quarter is being played now, so ours will be too

cross fingers. Pasquali Thurgate and Metcalfe as midfielders is my preference.

They also let the game be way too open, and huge spaces between the midfield and defence (perhaps the wrong formation given the conditions). All this is relatively easy to improve as players age and mature in club settings. Technique isn't as rectifiable though. If the opposition chances were constantly being created from 1v1 duels that were lost, it would be a bigger cause for concern.

+xIf we win this game, we wil be vsin Japan in the semi. That'll be a paddlin' Don't worry, we've got very little chance of winning. 1-0 down after 6 minutes with the Saudis being through on goal 4-5 times already. We have no defensive midfielders to shield this weak and ineffective backline. Poor players, Tactics and performance have been the norm, but the exception in this tournament

So how is the FFA curriculum working out? SA are living in medieval times and their team is 10x what ours is.

FFs disappointing. Is there a time when the new system was supposed to kick in and we saw better things from our youth?

Hadn't been following the u19s but when checking out the lineup I wasn't expecting to see a 12 man bench.

We've given away 10 shots in the first 20 mins. We seem so naive on the ball it's not funny. Hopefully we can turn it around. No confidence in the coach though. He's shown no ability to tweak things during a match. And the players we have are so obviously behind our opponents in every match there's only so much you can do. But you'd think being tight and organised would be it. Alas, no...

Number 20 looks terrible
These team selections seem bizarre to me. Folami on the left wing, Atkinson not right back, Iredale and Najjarine on the bench.
