Talk in Tottenham is they want Lloris out..he's had some real clangers lately.. seems like a good chance for Maty if he can keep up his form.

Mat is only ever going to be your mid table team work horse goalie. He should stay where he is for the stability.

You're underestimating him. He doesn't look like a great keeper, but he is. Some of the saves he makes are incredible for his height and stature. I have no doubt he'd be terrific at Tottenham or any other rich club.

If Ryan fixed his distribution he'd genuinely be an option for a move to a top club, but his distribution somehow is regressing every season.

You have to be a relative of Kruse's!

It is the only subject you discuss on this forum.

I was looking at the Kuwait game the other day and Kruse has really  improved  as a defensive player from the front . His value team as the ball in BPO is  similar  to Leckie's.

His off the ball running is also improving in opening effective passing lanes and creating dummy runs, when the team is in possession (BP).

He did put in the cross for the superb headed Kuwaiti own goal, but his general attacking ability around goals is lacking. It is why we are struggling to convert goals. Ditto Leckie.

Compare how dangerous Arzani and Mabil are going forwards, shooting for goal and running with the ball, or dribbling with the ball at their feet.

It hasn't regressed for the Socceroos.

But it has, from the back end of our qualification campaign he put us under so much pressure with his shit kicking. So many times he just kicks it out unintentionally, or sloppily turns it over by not reading the situation.

Really the world cup was the first time in years we actually saw Ryan put in performances like he usually does at club level, he's always been an under-performer for the national team before that.

It's strange that used to be why he was so good.

It really is odd, seemed to occur when he struggled to get game time for a period and these days it seems he has been focusing more on his shot stopping and ability in the air and just neglected that part of his game.

If he genuinely improves it again, he'll probably be first in line for a top move when a vacancy occurs.

I'm pretty sure Roma wanted to sign him or at least we're very interested in signing him a few seasons ago. They ended up signing Alisson  instead. A more successful club but weaker league that would have required emphasis on different skills from Maty. I think the move to a club requiring a decent number of important saves to be made has been good for him.

I thought I heard, or read, the FIFA Technical Dept data from the World Cup demonstrated Ryan had the most accurate distribution of any players at the tournament.

He's playing for a team that sits deep, so week-in, week-out he has less opportunities to utilise his distributions skills than he would playing for an attacking team. We know he has the skills, so if he went to a better team I'm sure it would come back to him.

He completed 84.7% of his passes the world cup, which really isn't that high considering the majority of his passes were to someone in the box or next to it. Whoscored has the pass map and against all our world cup opponents his furthest pass was about 10 metres outside the box which is astonishing really, he had a decent pass % because he never went long it was sideways passes under no pressure because our opponents didn't press us high.

Have a look at the pass maps on whoscored, you'll see what i mean.

To compare with his time at Brighton, currently his pass accuracy is 44.6% this season which is awful and that is because he can't kick accurately long anymore.

Hopefully, but he overkicks everything these days, every time he gets the ball it goes flying out of play when there was an open man he over hit. He's completely lost his mojo when it comes to distribution, it has been his only criticism when it comes to match reports or what the Brighton fans say of him.

Celtic playing Dundee on Thursday morning and I have a feeling Arzani will be on the bench, he didn't play reserves last night again. Unfortunately it's only on replay at 11am on Bein sports. Need Bein sports connect maybe. They play Hearts again on Sunday night where surely he should be up to speed now to get first team minutes.

Erm no.

The club is only 19 years old.

I dont want to jinx this but i can see Mabil at a top 5 league club in the next few years, hes someone who has the game to play at a higher level and abit a better ceiling than someone like Leckie for example.

If Ryan fixed his distribution he'd genuinely be an option for a move to a top club, but his distribution somehow is regressing every season.

The problem he has now is the lack of choice in outlets. At the Mariners and with the Socceroos he was given choices. He could either go short, go to the wings or direct to the strikers. Hughton wants him to only go long to the wings as he did with Stockdale before him. This means that not only are his options limited but also his margin of error his maximised. Stockdale had the same problem and Maty is outperforming his efforts in term of shot stopping and distribution.

TBH Brighton are doing fine as they are set up by Hughton, but Maty still has distribution as a strong suit. It just needs to be matched to the team tactics.

Maybe it's the way Brighton plays or what they push for in training. But there was a point before Maty was injured in Spain where he basically assisted a goal because of his distrution. It was fast and pin point. In this case it was a through ball from the box to just over half way.

Why Daniel Arzani's Celtic debut could be imminent
All signs suggest the Aussie teenager is very close to a first-team appearance for the Hoops
Written By
JOSH THOMAS

After training with the Celtic senior side last week, Daniel Arzani was a notable absentee from the Hoops academy team on Monday suggesting Brendan Rodgers could be about to hand the Australian his debut this week.

Having scored in his first start for the youth team last month, the 19-year-old has since missed multiple games for the side as he inches his way into Rodgers' first-team plans.

The timing couldn't be much better for Arzani either with the Hoops set to play their third game in under a week on Thursday against Dundee in the Scottish Premiership.

Celtic's busy schedule of late has seen them lose 2-0 to Red Bull Leipzig in the Europa League last week before claiming a 3-0 win over Hearts in the Scottish League Cup semi-final on Sunday.

Dundee, who sit bottom of the Premiership with one win from ten games, now loom as their next opponents and it's an ideal chance for Arzani to get his first taste of senior action.

With a tired squad and facing a side that shouldn't prove too much of a handful, Rodgers must seriously be considering using the Australian teenager at some point - a fact backed up by Arzani's omission from the academy side on Monday.

The Hoops are currently third in the league, six points off current leaders Hearts but with a game in hand.

Just three days after Celtic take on Dundee, they'll then play host to the league leaders with Arzani again in contention to feature then should he not play against Dundee.

Thursday's match however looms as his most likely chance to get some much-needed minutes with the first-team after recent reports suggested a Manchester City return could be on the cards should he not feature soon.

Celtic has since refuted those claims, but regardless Australia's brightest talents needs to be playing regularly sooner rather than later.

Does Celtic reserves win hint Rodgers is plotting Arzani decision?
Mon 29 Oct
Jordan Harris
Jordan Harris

Celtic's reserve side were emphatic winners on Monday, but Daniel Arzani was nowhere to be seen

Perhaps the most interesting development from Celtic's reserve side's 4-0 win over Queen of the South was not the result itself, but the absence of Hoops summer signing Daniel Arzani.

Arzani moved to Parkhead on a two-year loan deal, but is yet to feature for Brendan Rodgers' side since arriving from Manchester City. He has however, been a regular fixture in the reserves.

So after recently training with the Bhoys first-team, it is intriguing that he was missing from the reserve side that won on Monday. There may be another reason, but perhaps there is a good chance that Rodgers is finally ready to hand him an opportunity in the senior side.

Celtic travel to Dundee at the weekend looking to close the gap at the top of the Scottish Premiership. It is a game that the Hoops will be overwhelming favourites for given that Dundee have lost all five of their home fixtures this season.

On paper therefore, it appears to be the perfect time for Rodgers to hand Arzani a chance given how long it will now be before they have to negotiate a fixture that is not a league game, European tie or cup final.

Rodgers' stance on Arzani's situation has been fairly understandable given that he arrived at Celtic right at the end of the window and before the ink on his Manchester City contract had actually dried.

And if this weekend proves to be the time that Rodgers decides to hand the Australian his senior debut and he grasps the chance with both hands, then Rodgers' plan with the summer signing will quickly look like a masterstroke.
