I thought Julia moved to Adelaide a few years ago, so that wouldn’t be much help :)
I honestly don’t see how a Western Melbourne team stacks up. It’s far easier to get to the city than much of the South East, and it is an area that already has a significantly MV (majority) and MC following.
It’s certainly a long term proposition, given the amount of development planned out there, but one would think that it would be a big struggle for years to come to make it work.

“and it is an area that already has a significantly MV following” ... is there an area that doesn’t though?

^^ I would think that the outer South Eastern suburbs that Team 11 are targeting would not have significant levels of MV or MC support, especially ones that are engaged enough to travel into the city for matches on a regular basis.
That distance would be a barrier for many to participate currently, but I don’t feel that there is a naturally strong market to try and draw from in the West at this stage.
It would be even more of a challenge for WMG if they play in Geelong for a couple of years, building up a base, only to expect those fans to turn up to matches at Tarneit when the stadium is ready. It will be a fairly hard sell overall.

It will be a fairly hard sell overall. i think thats a reasonable point. but if you look at it from a glass half full perspective, playing their first 2 season in Geelong might capture a decent slice of the Geelong market. and its only a 33 minute train trip from Geelong station to Tarneit station (about the same as it is from Tarneit to the Southern Cross).

+x“and it is an area that already has a significantly MV following” ... is there an area that doesn’t though? No not really. Even most of the local south east clubs would hold events for Victory. Dandy Thunder even hosted a membership day for them a few years back. South bias aside i think a third new team here is a bit of a stretch.

+xDecember 12. you know what this tells? me? that the new board will be sticking by the successful bidders chosen by Delloite. Welcome Western Melbourne Group and Southern Expansion. The favourites from all the "sources" have been Team 11 and Southwest Sydney with Canberra a close third. We will see on December 12.

+xI think you spelt Canberra wrong zero chance. abolutely zero. unless we expand by 4 teams. +xThe favourites from all the "sources" have been Team 11 and Southwest Sydney with Canberra a close third. We will see on December 12. Canberra are 5th and south melbourne 6th. "sources" may well be claiming Team 11 is favoured by the FFA, no stadium funding puts them out of the running. we'll see on December 12, but I am very confident I will be proven correct.

FFA are stalling in order to get more licence cash from gullible investors/consortiums. Whoever stumps up the most $$$ will get in. FFA are 'playing' everyone as they are desperate for a cash boost before the franchisers take control of the a league.

So it benefits the FFA to not make any noises about expanding beyond 12 teams to maximise the cash now, get the bidders bidding against each other.

+x+xI can't see any of these Melbourne bids getting up under the current circumstances. South-West Sydney and Canberra are the most logical and ready bids in my opinion. well you are miles off it then buddy. just speculating about something you seem to have limited information about. and what circumstances are you referring to anyway? The circumstances in which neither the Western or SE Melbourne bids have a stadium to play out of from Day 1 in their purported heartland. Even if funding was forthcoming for a future boutique stadium (which is far from confirmed), three Melbourne teams playing out of the same stadium would be a disaster and erode any geographical advantages they may seek to bring. SMFC will not get up based on the reasons that have already been discussed ad nauseam on this forum.

Have been speaking with the ones that know. After the FFA December 12 announcement, you can expect a Christmas present from the newly returned Andrews government to the south eastern suburbs of Melbourne.
The stadium deal will be announced prior to Christmas.

The divide between clubs will continue to rise thanks to more clubs.

Perth Glory owner Tony Sage confirmed operational costs of an A-League club are around $12 to $13 million which means bids must prove they can generate around $10 million annually. This is because they'll be given back $3.4 million of their licence fee annually for the next four years.[/quote]

Probably has a lot to do with the fact that they've got the most competent public communicator out of the bids in Watt Windley.

As a big supporter of the Western Melbourne bid, they've appeared to be pretty quiet lately too which is a surprise.
All the noise definitely seems to be coming from Team 11, and you can even see all the comments on their social media posts.

Would be kinda fuckin handy though because, you know, fans. T11 needs noise because it has a government support component.

Really hope so mate, would love nothing more than to see Western Melbourne get in.
In an ideal world, all three Melbourne bids would get into the league eventually, would seriously fill the areas nicely.
Melbourne Victory and City taking up the 'city' areas, with South Melbourne's history to help them get a foothold, whilst Western Melbourne would obviously cover the the west (including Geelong etc) and Team 11 would cover the south east.
South West Sydney makes too much sense for Sydney.
Clearly there needs to be at least four bids to come in eventually, and that's being conservative, with Canberra being a potential option, too.
