Team 11 have a powerful friend. The member for Keysborough in the Southeast of Melbourne is the new sports minister.

Gosh what a flog Nick Meredith is. His hatred of anything old school is absurd, someone must have screwed him over at Sydney Olympic back in the day.

If the Andrews Government do commit to fund a stadium at the Dandenong site than I'm happy to admit they would be the other obvious license along with SWS.

Three teams playing out of Melbourne Rectangular Stadium for 1-2 seasons is far from ideal though. Perhaps FFA could grant the license but stagger their entry to the 2020-21 season. Hardly the end of the world as it will give them another 12 months to prepare (the 9-10 months of preparation time the successful bids will face is a steep mountain to begin with).

Team 11 are planning to play out of Casey Fields while the proposed stadium is being built. It's far from an ideal venue for football, but is in their catchment area.

It only has 300 seats and the pitch is miles from the terraces which have no evaluation.

IIRC They're being replaced straight away

Closed HAL is failing with 10 teams
Closed HAL failed with 11
FFA forced to try a 12 team Closed HAL thatll just create 2 more mid table also-rans
and still this weird 16-team panacea gets trotted out.

Team 11 have already said they'd put in temporary stands at Casey Fields in the interim.
With a supportive council behind them it will get done.

Casey Fields is more or less an AFL training venue out in the middle of nowhere. There are no real spectator facilities and viewing/comfort would be an absolute nightmare even with temp stands etc. Just need to look at the Spotless Stadium farce to realise what a bad idea that would be. It's laughable that it's even being considered for temporary A League venue. Can't believe people think it's that easy to get govt funding/approval and build a stadium on budget and on time. Team 11 should come in once the stadium is built. 3-4 years playing in a shit heap would kill them off.

True, this would be even worse than spotless.  I'm not even sure it's an enclosed ground.  It would actually be a lot worse than playing at Mudgee.

Bring Team 11 in in a couple of years whilst they build their stadium, you can't play on a pitch like that.

Western Melbourne at least have a legitimate temporary venue up their sleeve (albeit in Geelong). Bring them in first then Team 11/Dandenong in a couple of years.

A little bit like how Sydney Rovers became WSW for the West of Sydney in terms of timeframe etc.

There are a range of fields for different sports in Casey fields, I doubt they'd be using the oval.

Looks like South Melbourne are the only viable team from Melbourne at this stage. Playing at a suburban oval would kill Team 11 off while West Melbourne is a rubbish bid full stop. Acting like there's some crossover between Geelong and St. Albans (much less a connecting "identity" like WSW have) is laughable.

We get the powers have a hard on for geography and team11 is the likely team of choice, why not just do it properly and bring them in when the stadium goes up? If the state government agrees to build it they will be ready to go in 3 years, introduce them then, any goodwill this team has will be massacred if they play out of that dump in Casey fields, and AAMI Park is going to annoy the omg no 3 teams in the city crew, they will piss everyone off long before they step foot in any new venue, they all claim to be the next Wanderers yet conveniently forget that parramatta stadium was there ready to go and those first 2 formative years at the venue were key to building up the support base.

If they’re trying to rush this just so South never get a sniff then they’re are bigger idiots then I gave them credit for. Just say you don’t want South and have the next Melb team ready to go when they actually are ready to go, same goes for West Melbourne if that was the preference.

If Team 11 can get Casey Field like Lower Hutt and like Perth Oval when the Glory first came in then it will be fine for a few seasons.

If it stays like it is then it will be a shithouse arrangement.

Interesting to read those comments from Heather Reid. Well structured thought process she uses, articulated well, which gives me some confidence about the future of the game.

For the Wellington decision, that would more than likely be something for the independent HAL to make, in whatever form that takes.

Honestly, as much as there is value in a NZ side, my opinion on this is that priority should be given to a club in Australia, but I will leave that up to the decision makers on what they plan to do.
