+x+xIsn't the extra Fox money contingent on a new team in both Sydney and Melbourne? Or was it just for any expansion? Honestly, I feel like they're prepping Canberra to replace the Nix - would be a good fit. As far as is known $6m per season from 2019/2 onwards for a 6th game, as long as FOX approve of the 2 teams Take your guess as to what those 2 teams require for FOX approval but most suggest it's 1 in Sydney and 1 in Melbourne. Brisbane also might have got FOX approval if they hadn't bailed No money in current contract for 7th game I recall it was something like that. In the meantime, weren't we led to believe that the two new teams would not get a cent of the Fox money for the duration of the current broadcast deal, and must fund everything themselves?

That's the rumour FFA have always said the $6m isn't enough to make expansion worthwhile. Cash up front for the License will be part of the Bid, (maybe) another will be proving the FFA won't have to bail them out for x years

The FFA will have to fund the central costs of the extra games i.e. transport, match officials, etc. I'm not sure how much of the $6m that will use up.

I wonder if this means the FFA could sell off a 7th game for more money? perhaps exclusive to a FTA network or even optus? +xThat's the other side of the coin. What penalties are there for the FFA if they don't produce the extra fixture for Fox next year? Can/ Would Fox walk from the contract if the FFa do not come up with those extra two teams? i don't believe a specific year was stipulated in the deal. but obviously the earlier, the more TV money we get. +xIn the meantime, weren't we led to believe that the two new teams would not get a cent of the Fox money for the duration of the current broadcast deal, and must fund everything themselves? i believe this was part of the expansion criteria. but the licence fee monies are designed to offset this.

Too me, its imperative that the FFA keep going with expansion, otherwise they are at the behest of Fox and possibly renegotiating the broadcast contract. On current indicators, that would result in substantial pain for the A League. The $6m is only when Expansion happens, if it doesn't happen next season FFA just miss out on the $6m until it does No Penalty for not Expanding

That’s promising. If they went for
(a) 14 teams/26 Round HAL and
(b) 9 team/18 Round W League
I’d call that a win.
And if it’s true “Fox Sports was looking to have a representative in the boardroom for the deliberations, but have not been granted access.” that’s another win. Fox need to learn their f’kin place!!

i think if they go to 14, then South are in with a good chance. They are essentially ready to go and are less of a risk than clubs that dont exist yet.

SWS and T11 look like front runners now. Canberra would probably be the 3rd choice. WMelb 4th and SMFC 5th.
In my opinion - the 11th and 12th should be either SMFC, Canberra or SWS. All have stadiums and are ready to go.
Then, immediately after, announce the 13th and 14th clubs. This gives them time to build their stadiums. Let T11 and WMelb thrash it out for the 14th spot.
I think the Nix are pretty much dead and buried, regardless if they smash Sydney or not. Someone would need to replace them.
Second division to follow. Anyone else wanting to join, joins the 2nd tier, with Pro/Rel introduced in a couple of years after the 13th and 14th teams are in. In 3-4 years, this could easily happen.
1st tier Victory Melb City Sydney FC WSW Newcastle CCM Adelaide Brisbane Perth South West Sydney Canberra Team11 West Melbourne SMFC (replace Wellington)
2nd Tier Wollongong Hobart Brisbane City/Strikers Second Adelaide team Fremantle Gold Coast Ipswich South Sydney (not Southern Expansion) 4-6 more bids, likely to be already existing NPL clubs

If we're to have a bye next season, the FFA should enforce a-league clubs to play random charity games against NPL and NZ (for Nix only) sides. It would be good pr and gives the league a new team each week.

Southern Expansion appear to be out of the running, which is a massive shock to me. It makes me wonder if the new FFA and has not gone with the original recommendation of the old FFA. This could spell bad news for WMG... which would be a golden oportunity wasted for the league and the sport if they miss out.

Reid’s public comments call her out as no friend of the Canberra bid. Let’s not be confused about this.

Preferred bidders will be Western Melbourne Group and Southwest Sydney in the season after next. Team 11 had no backing from the Victorian Government for building a new stadium South Melbourne not acceptable to Melbourne Victory and City Football Group (Heartle$$ Group) Southern Expansion lost out because of the Smurfs. Canberra to replace the Nix when their license expires. And maybe Fox have dictated that the A-League can't be 12 teams and has to be 14.

West melb will also offer the highest license fee which the ffa will love. They will fail though they have very little traction out west. In terms of fan potential its the weakest of the melb bids but they have the $$$. Team11 only has themselves to blame if the governent doesnt pull through..if they want it that bad they should build it themselves.
