Khawaja reverse sweeps for 4 and then the next ball is identical and he edges it to short leg. Should have played the reverse sweep again.

+xWe are playing 5 specialist batsmen. Two are not good enough, two are young and look good in parts but have issues, one is a proven test match batsman. We are in trouble. Khawaja falls to spin again. Bloody hell!

+x+x+x+x+x+x+x+xso can anyone estimate how much the dropped catches cost us? Amazingly after looking out of it this could have been one that got away. If india had to bowl in a heat wave on this pitch defending 350.... In any case if the pitch holds together we only need to get 300 odd in the first innings and its game over even without rain Siddle dropped Rohit on 15 . He went on to score 63. Pant was dropped early.. scored 39. Now if I knew what their partnership was I would have an educated guess. At a stab I will say run cost was between 60/80. India declared on 443. So what is the state of play as we head into Day 3. Some pundits are saying India missed a trick by its go slow in the middle and a decent portion of the last session. As I saw it our bowlers caused the go slow with their unwavering discipline. One of the best bowling performances I have witnessed from our entire bowling unit for a good while. Once the shine goes off this new ball will it will be easier to bat on. Can our relatively green lineup bat most of the day and knock a decent slice off their score? India's star batting rock Chet Pujara said batting became harder the longer the day went. He was pinged on the glove twice by length balls that jumped, while the ball that castled him never got above half stump hi. So despite all the hooha that this deck is a batting paradise and will not break up.. it seems it is and just in time for when our boys have to save a test match and the series. It is a huge mountain to climb. Agree with you gb re our bowlers & exceptional performance. I thought Kohli would have liked to bat into today, but he made the right decision at the time - protect his bowlers & have a crack at us. It will be interesting to see how they stand up by end of today. Kohli showed haw hard it was in the heat batting & for the way our boys kept at it was a true test of character. Now we just have to avoid the follow on. jj surviving unscathed against the new ball is our first task. Then saving the follow on. Would have made our job so much easier I feel had we won the toss. Still, I reckon we are in for an intriguing days play. Dont ya love Test cricket. 34C in Melbourne at just 10am. Should not bother India as they are used to these hot temps.. easier as there is also low humidity. I am fairly confident with Harris once the ball softens. He did smoke a double hundred last time he played on this deck. Finch is a concern tho. He lacks the technique to play a long innings for mine. Wanna see him take on the bowling and unsettle the Indians. Too late he is gone. Soft dismissal. His place is now in jeopardy. Big problem once Finch goes.. we have four lefties in a row. That is making it so much easier for the bowlers as they can concentrate on the same line. CA has to find a way against picking too many lefties in our top 6. Does anyone else see this as a problem going forward? Replace Finch with Burns = RH batter

True, he is the senior batsman in the team, he needs to set himself to be there until the end of the innings. Runs do not matter hugely at the moment, just not getting out. Not out 120 with Australia getting over 400 would be a massive success.

India's batsman looked good because they played test innings according to the conditions ie play yourself & take minimum risks = slow scoring & whilst they gave chances looked settled at the crease.

At least if we lose by an innings, which seems likely now, the selectors will be forced to make changes.
Must get rid of Shaun Marsh Must not open with Aaron Finch Must play 6 specialist batsmen, so no M. Marsh in the top 6

Don't you guys read the forecast, there was always going to be a change today.
"Partly cloudy. Winds northwest to northeasterly 15 to 20 km/h. Milder southerly winds developing over bayside areas by early afternoon and extending inland during the afternoon and evening."
The next two days are going to be only mid 20s with perhaps a little rain.

It is getting hard to watch our cricket team lose so much - and - losing decisively.
For those of of us who follow football, it is analogous to home supporters of Brazil, Italy, Spain, Argentina or Germany, lose games home and away on a consistent basis.

+xMarsh out, he must be dropped, he is not good enough, a proven failure. I agree. Shaun Marsh, because we have such an inexperienced batting line up, has had so many chances to consolidate. He isn't good enough at Test level - for whatever reason. Conversely, I thought Mitch Marsh bowled well in one of his roles as an all rounder.

+xIt is getting hard to watch our cricket team lose so much - and - losing decisively. For those of of us who follow football, it is analogous to home supporters of Brazil, Italy, Spain, Argentina or Germany, lose games home and away on a consistent basis. Knife to the heart DC. We have powerful bowling depth. Not so our batting depth. A real worry. Perhaps take a gamble on young Jason Sangha or Will Pucovski.. Josh Philippe is an exciting talent too. Some young blood to reinvigorate our team.

Some young blood to reinvigorate our team. A few years back after I watched South Africa hammer our team at Bellerive, Handscomb and Renshaw were selected. Both did well. Handscomb has technical issues to resolve, before he is selected again. Renshaw must surely regain the form he had at so young an age. Long term, I think Renshaw is a far better prospect than any current six batter we have in this team.

I recall saying at the time Handscomb should not have been picked until he fixed his technical flaws. CA kept picking him. Madness.

India in in its 40th and Bumrah is getting good reverse. that is proof this Kooka is scuffing on this surface.

Bare patches producing deviation springing up almost every over. Could be even more of nitemare to bat on second innings.

This is depressing. I just can't understand how our batting techniques are so poor.
Bumrah is the bowler of the series for me. I can't remember the last time I saw an Indian bowling performance this good. He is a nightmare bowler to face.

I dont think Indis will enforce follow on even if given chance.
They'll want bigger holes for Jadeja and to recharge Bumrah.
Wh give Aus the chance of Lyon having a score to defend in the 4th?

The first coach I am sacking is Hick. He does not seem to be able to impress on his charges the need to be patient.. build partnerships.. , knuckle down, own your wicket plus all those other cliches.
