+x+x+xMy inside info is that the South Melbourne bid was rejected based on one factor. The FFA and Foxtel knew that if South were to join the competition, the viewing stats and match attendances would explode by the 100's and neither the FFA or Foxtel have the infrastructure to deal with this massive influx of interest. A lot of South fans are like teenage boys chasing after a girl (the A league). If the A League (girl) accepts their advances, then it's the hottest thing ever. On the other hand, if the girl rejects them, then she's an ugly whore they want nothing to do with. We can joke around all day long, fact is South made one big time appearance on fox and the rating for that game was bigger than 90% of current A league games...and thats npl South. that is extraordinary I think it was 70 pc

Was the game against Sydney? Pity, that figure includes all the people that stayed home to avoid that downpour.

Metrics killed the football star! Does anyone know if the alleged drop off in viewership extends to BBL?

You have to factor in something for Foxtel Kayo and the MyFootball App.
There’s no doubt Football is losing viewers but how many is an unknown question without knowing the streaming numbers. 1-5k were on Foxtel GO and it’s not unreasonable to assume there’s 3x or more now streaming on the new platforms.
Unfortunately streaming numbers typically remain commercial-in-confidence so doubt we’ll ever know.
The value of the next broadcast deal though will have to maximise FTA, Pay TV and streaming instead of relying on Fox to do the deals.

If you mean that it will increase viewership and attendance, you are 100% incorrect. Whilst promotion and relegation will be good from a 'sporting merits' perspective, the impacts it WILL have will be as follows: Lower average attendances at matches. Lower average viewership on t.v or whatever broadcast.

Issue is that all key metrics are dropping and the 2nd half of the season is looking worse than the first half Football without promotion and relegation is a cartoon More goals in AFL More tackles in Rugby What exactly is the ALeague offering the sports entertainment market? Not much at all and expansion decisions bare more of the same if not worse

"Quitting is easy. I don’t undervalue size of task but not much to be gained by looking backwards and ascribing blame. ALeague is at the end of its first life cycle, 13 yrs on that's understandable. Decisions around national 2nd div hold as much a key to its future as idependence in my opinion."
