+x+xI'd say excluding Niedermeier makes more sense considering that we have two good CBs in Ansell and Deng. I've been considering this more when looking at how well Baena's done, but Deng and Ansell alone together might work against WSW, but with Paulinho running at them for Evergrande will we regret not bringing the experience? Still a while to decide but it's surely gotta be one of the two. And the height. -PB

I would leave Baena out. We need to give more game time to Hope and I think Valeri has been pretty solid so far this season.

I'm inclined to think this as well - we're stacked in central midfield, so it makes sense to do a rotation with Valeri/Baena/Broxham between A-League and ACL fixtures. Kosta will back up every game no problem, so he's essential. Niedermeier is essential for our defence & Honda is a no-brainer. Toivonen might not play every game, but I think it's important to be able to have him as an option in the ACL, even if he only ends up playing 30 minutes or something.

I think with the positional depth it's a bit of a no-brainer and was probably made clear to Baena at the outset, but the group stage is still a few months away so we'll see what happens.

Also, Baena is only on loan and iirc still contracted with his club for next year. Could play a part in long term planning if we want to try and re-sign Georg.

I only got to watch the first half of this game. Oof that touch down to Antonis for the 4th goal was sublime.

Daegu making it 4-1 on aggregate with fifteen minutes to go, you can pencil them in for our group.

We draw the easier Korean team, Sydney get dicked 3-0 at home by the Nix, we go top of the table and they skipped Victory the Brave and went straight to Horses.

Where was Raul last night? Troisis needs to live on the wing and let Antonis play CAM. Having Honda play in Terry and then Ola is just a joy to watch. -PB

+xIs there a coach in football that makes less changes during a game or waits as long as kev? KM is improving as a coach but he still makes some errors. Leaving his subs too late is probably the biggest fault he still has for me. He rarely makes an impact sub and he should have made some time wasting subs at the end of the derby. It will be interesting to see if this changes when we have less injured. He did not trust the young player last game to see the match out.
Full trophy cabinet (but yours looks a bit empty) ! Reigning BACK2BACK 442 A League and World Cup (Mens and Womens) Tipping Champion - so yeap, I do know best !

+xIs there a coach in football that makes less changes during a game or waits as long as kev? Iirc franz straka made no subs a couple of times during his tenure at nqf . Iirc Wenger subbed very late during games as well. Also mv now have pre academies. Melbourne Victory7 hrs ago Melbourne Victory is pleased to announce the launch of its Pre-Academy Centres. The Pre-Academy Centres will run at a variety of partner club venues and form the first plank in the Club’s long-term vision for our Player Development Pathway (PDP), as a lead in to the Melbourne Victory Academy. The Player Development Pathway will allow participants to train and develop their skills from a young age, in accordance with the Melbourne Victory way, building confidence in their skills at an important time in their development. The Pre-Academy Centres will target the best developing talent throughout metropolitan and regional Victoria, offering boys and girls aged 8-12, with the environment and platform to reach their potential. The program will work as a complementary offering to that of the player’s registered clubs. While there is an intent to develop more geographically targeted sites, the initial launch locations will be run in conjunction with the following Club Victory partners; Whittlesea Ranges, Bell Park Soccer Club, Spring Hills Football Club, West Point Soccer Club and Knox Churches, as well as a new regional arrangement with Murray United.More partnerships will be announced in due course.Rob Sherman, General Manager - Technical and Coaching welcomed the launch of the Pre-Academy Centres.“The Player Development Pathway has two fundamental aims; to help grow the game by attracting more boys and girls to football and to provide opportunities for those who wish to get better."The program is designed to present players with the opportunity to gain a high-quality coaching experience in their local football community while they aspire and develop, whilst also providing a tangible route in the Melbourne Victory Academy."We are excited by the response from clubs to host our Pre-Academy Centres and look forward to working with them in developing the game and talented players in the region.”Melbourne Victory captain Carl Valeri said, “it’s exciting to know that current and future generations of Australian footballers have a quality development pathway in their own backyard," Valeri said.“For so many, myself included, the path to the top of the game had to take us overseas. We had to leave home to take our game to the next level.“But now Melbourne Victory can offer young players with genuine coaching and development opportunities, the likes of which we didn’t have previously."These clubs will be the sites of our Pre-Academy Centre programs to run throughout 2019.There are two ways to enter these programs: via a referral from a trusted scout or following participation in one of our talent identification camps to take place in January.
